Friends,

Coming Friday's Pro-democracy Rally in NY is, in every sense, Diaspora's equivalent of "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" in Nepal.

What is "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" ?

It is people's saying, "Enough is enough".

It's saying, "Enough with King's insuppressible greed for power, enough with political parties' impotency, enough with Maoists' abuse of legitimate political cause to promote anachronistic ideology and violence, and enough with the freaking eternal quagmire they are in."

The most important of all, perhaps, it is also saying, "Enough with our own cynicism, apathy and passiveness".

Let's take initiative on our own to let ourselves, political powers and the whole world know what we want and how we want, once for all. Let's speak up. That's what "Citizen's movement for democracy and peace" is all about.

And damn. It's working. It's already showing its affects everywhere.

Common people, through their participation and display to the leaders, poets and artists kind of love and respect never seen before, and the movement, through it's determination to spread it throughout the country no matter what, has already established itself as an ad hoc political leadership until political parties reform enough to reclaim people's trust and thereby popular political leadership to the movement for Loktantra.

Let's show up at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NY on this Friday to let ourselves and the whole world know our longing for democracy and peace and to make a small but glorious history of how we took time to show our respect and solidarity to activists, professionals, poets, artists and common people rising Nepal ko basti basti baata, gaaun gaaun baata.

See you all who are close enough to make it to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NYC, 12:00 noon, Friday 16th September 2005.

I do not see anything in the HORIZON.
All I see are dreams of people with likes of NEPE building SAND CASTLES ON THE BEACH.
When asked what his protest is for .... We get silent treatment.
Frustrated-Sajhaits have resorted to name calling and rant and rave because of this.

Who is representing the REPULICAN movement ? NOBODY except for Nepe and his frens IN THE VIRTUAL WORLD(not REAL WORLD). THEREFORE this protest is nothing more than just a continuous series ASS TALK by NEPE AND HIS FRENS.

Just like the last Demonstration you will only get Oppertunists who are trying to cash in cause they lost their diplomatic status, cause they got fired,...etc etc '

No LEader in sight but just GUTLESS COWARDS TALKIN" TRASH IN THE VIRTUAL WWORLD(NOT REAL WORLD)

Freaksjee,

There is always load of nonsense in a forum like Sajha Kurakani. So the best advice would be - ignore them.

*** *** ***

PSC,

All sensible slogans there. It's just a matter of priority for the occasion that has made most slogans directed to King's dictatorship and popular movement for democracy and peace in Nepal.

Nevertheless, here are my quick personal remarks to the issues you brought up.

>Protest against Indian intervention in internal affairs of Nepal.
>Protesting against RAW to stay away from Nepal affairs.

Certainly there are things we don't want India to meddle with, however fight for democracy is not the one. Fighting for democracy is not an 'internal affair' of any country in the world. It is an 'universal affair'. So I don't see India's refusal to support a dictator King in Nepal as an 'intervention'.

As for RAW, where is it ? In Indian Embassy ? I don't think we can get hold of RAW or CIA, CIS for that matter, and call for kicking them out. It's a matter of impossibility and is true for every country in the world.

>Protesting to block India to become Security Council member
>as they have been most hostile never to all South Asian nations.

Can not afford. Simply. Diplomacy and International Affairs 101.

>Protest against Bhutan to return their refugees from Nepal.

No problem.

>Protest against Maoist by demanding them to show their real
>commitment by lay down their weapons and join mainstream
>political movement. Maoist to stop expoliting in the name of Cease Fire.

100% with you. And I am sure there are going to be placards and speeches on the issue.

>Protest against all corrupt leaders to nationalize their properties.

Again 100% with you. And I can share this with you proudly that the organizers have given expression to that by accepting popular demand that political leaders, no matter how senior he/she is, be given no opportunity to be a guest speaker at the rally.

As for nationalizing the properties, the issue has become even more popular since voice for investigating rumor of 18 billion pounds is rising.

>Protest against politically motivated students organization to not to
>spoil the future of millions of student of Nepal.

I am 500% with you on the essence of this demand.

In fact, I have been mad with these freaking NSU, ANNFSU and other declared sister organizations of political parties for their politicking and corruption in the campuses throughout 12 years after 1990.

It was absolutely irresponsible to bring party politics in the campuses after the fight for democracy was over (presumably) in 1990. NSU, ANNFSU should have been decommissioned or depoliticized after 1990, because the political role of these organizations was not required after 1990. But we know what happened.

However, since October 2002 take over by the King, student Unions and organizations now have the same mission and role they had before 1990.

When the movement ends with success to establish democracy in Nepal, political role and affiliation of the student organization should end with that. That's my position.

>Protest against various international organizations, particularly
>human right organizations, not to make developing countries
>like Nepal a secure place to secure their jobs and dollars by
>exaggerating the reports.

At this time when the state and the rebel are abusing human rights in Nepal in unprecedented scale, I would welcome more activity of International Human right organizations. We don't have luxury of taking about possible mismanagement of these organizations at this point of time. Abuse of people should be the priority issue.

>Protest against those NRN who instead of doing something for
>Nepal just demanding more facilities and criticizing for the sake
>of doing so

Interestingly, I do have a similar but slightly more liberal view on this. I have been very vocal about related issue in various forums. Will share it some other time.

If that was not really simple, let's see your simpler version about the Maoists.

Raybati,

As they say, if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.

Your blanket negativism is no better than the very thing you are negative about.

Look at the picture below. This was the first civic meeting in Kathmandu where 10-15,000 people brought political leaders not to listen to their bull shit but to tell them what bull shit they have been talking all this time. Civic leaders, artists and poets spat right on the face of political leaders by their criticism and satire on their kartoot and all that.

This kind of pressure has started to show it's effects. Political parties are changing. They have made tremendous progress on getting rid of their ambiguity about democracy. There are a lot of other thing they are fumbling. But if the civil society can keep the pressure on, it will surely hasten the process of party's reforms.

And NY rally is, as I said, Diaspora's equivalent of a rally of Citizen's movement in Nepal.

And you are totally negative about it. What's your suggestion for us to do better ?

Citizen's meeting at Baneswar August 5, 2005

Nepe ji,

Thanks for your comments on my comments.
I don't see any rationale behind this rally as it is planned to target on "byakti bisesh" rather than focussing on overall benefit of country. Tapain le je su kai lekhnu bhaye pani Raja lai gali garne bahek aru ke nai hola ra?
Nepal ma chahi yo bare ali bhadhi nai prachar prasar bhayeko chha - jasto ki "Nepal ko problem ko gahantalai dhyan ma rakhi UN le Main Gate mai ryali ra miking garne subidha diyeko chha" bhanera????
Your Views about India and other international organizations gives clear notion that how much you rely on others (foreigners) to solve our problems rather than finding the solution from our own capacity. It is like Kulchandra and Murariraj instigating Maoist (by saying that UN is willing to help - as if they are political decision maker of the UN) and making Nepali people confused about role of the UN/international community in Nepal's crisis.
My only suggestion to you is before you plan anything like this - there must be some purpose and it has to achievable from the practical point of view in the context of Nepal. Otherwise hey and cry in one corner of 47th and First Ave (I bet you will be allowed to protest in front of main gate as you all publicized in Nepal) will be meaningless.
