Friends,

Coming Friday's Pro-democracy Rally in NY is, in every sense, Diaspora's equivalent of "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" in Nepal.

What is "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" ?

It is people's saying, "Enough is enough".

It's saying, "Enough with King's insuppressible greed for power, enough with political parties' impotency, enough with Maoists' abuse of legitimate political cause to promote anachronistic ideology and violence, and enough with the freaking eternal quagmire they are in."

The most important of all, perhaps, it is also saying, "Enough with our own cynicism, apathy and passiveness".

Let's take initiative on our own to let ourselves, political powers and the whole world know what we want and how we want, once for all. Let's speak up. That's what "Citizen's movement for democracy and peace" is all about.

And damn. It's working. It's already showing its affects everywhere.

Common people, through their participation and display to the leaders, poets and artists kind of love and respect never seen before, and the movement, through it's determination to spread it throughout the country no matter what, has already established itself as an ad hoc political leadership until political parties reform enough to reclaim people's trust and thereby popular political leadership to the movement for Loktantra.

Let's show up at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NY on this Friday to let ourselves and the whole world know our longing for democracy and peace and to make a small but glorious history of how we took time to show our respect and solidarity to activists, professionals, poets, artists and common people rising Nepal ko basti basti baata, gaaun gaaun baata.

See you all who are close enough to make it to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NYC, 12:00 noon, Friday 16th September 2005.

Nepe

WTF, I agree with you. What the f* king supposed to do?
He had no choice. Anyone who cares about Nepal should support atleast this time to him & brave RNA's, and let them cleanup Maoist mess first.

This so called protest by you FOOLs, and Maoist war is no more than replacing one bastard with another in power... we have seen UML(so called Communist) came to power, and 1st time in history communist started looting peoples tax money, and mis using power like any other parties. Look at Chinese communist, their so called Peasant War which brought communism is no more than a tyranny with no human rights, and their so called equallity is worse than any other country with millions earning under $1 a day.

Most of these people whos gonna make FOOL of themself by going to the RALLY are not a general Nepali who care about NEPAL, they are just a bunch of stupid people who dont understand that DEMOCRACY IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER everywhere.

Give me one good reason how putting Maoist or ANY POLITICAL THUG BACK IN POWER will do better than what it is already now? They had their chance, they lost it, and now wining, crying, making themself stupid infront of whole world by organizing this rally.

Its in Nepali blood... once you are in power, all are same, corrupt, mis-using, mis-managed.... only care about PERSONAL INTEREST, & their all family members abroad to PROTEST A RALLY with NO MEANING, and DEGRADING THEMSELF BY SHOWING UP THEIR STUPID FACE in front of world!

SAD BUT TRUE: if one is not in power, the other had/has/will try to make sure the other will FAIL even though one is trying to make it better.

Nepal need GUANTANOMO like place where all the political/senseless power hungry protestor (when not in power is PROTESTING, and NEPAL BAND, DESTROYING PUBLIC PROPERTY, CREATING MENANCE, and BAD SHOW TO THE WHOLE WORLD...) can be placed indefinitely.

I have slightly different view than others. Many like Nepe are just gogim gon ranting without strong action plan for sustainable peace.

My views.
1. The result of the the rallies and protests would be at most some sanctions against Nepal. Economic sanctions, the people in Nepal are poor and with this it will break the backbone of Nepal. Then what as in Iraq wait for isolated relief plans from UN befor Saddam was removed. First, Nepal do not have resources to attract foreigners. In this Chaos, only powerful neighbors will benefit.

2. If the king happened to be removed from the crown, then maosits will come to power. The current power equation is sufficient enough to prove this.

3. Right now its a trade off between one corrupt and inept polticians and royalites. This is not what Nepalese require. But beofre that Nepal needs peace, a sustainable peace.

Peace could not be attained untill all the groups involved are ready to comprimise. Its just a simple logic.

4. King will never give up crown. Lotta bloodshed will be required to remove the king. What then, after all the bloodshed the red state of Nepal.

5. Only possible solution I see is all three should comprimise. The maoists should give up violence and show commitment to democracy in written and some international group as witness.

King should go back into constitution.

Parties should work on eliminating inept and corrupt polticians.

6. Basicall here we need strong and transparent framework to filter out corruptness and ineptness.
ALl the institutions should be audited. The audit firm should be one with international presence. They have to follow norms cause reputation is very essential for their success.

7. Then there should be parliamentry election after the cease fire. The party which gets majority will get the mandate of people and should work towards full democracy and better governance.

ALl we need is peace. A sustainable peace.

Going after the king will result in very long and bloody civil war. Just freaking use the common sense. If you all know the king has personal ambitions, he will not give up the thrown.

Nepe, when you talk about decency, I feel like big joke. But Poonte, he maiantains decency.

HF for peace in Nepal

Some highlights of the Rally:

1. The rally turned out to be overwhelmingly a pro-republican one in specific terms despite organizers choice of remaining modest and pro-democracy in very general terms.

2. The turn out was lower than expected in case of the king's visit not cancelled. Yet, 400-500 people showed up. (The register has attendance signature of 368 people. And not everybody that showed up signed, obviously)

3. A skit with caricature of King Gyanendra with crown (by our own Anil and friends) to symbolize the fall down of monarchy in Nepal was the major attraction and perhaps the essence of the spirit of the rally.

Not everybody's speech reflected it, but I think, based on the most applauded speeches, slogans and individual interactions, I would say that the rally in spirit endorsed unconditional democratic republic of Nepal.

4. I did not get a chance to recite Bhaute's ghazal in the formal program. However, I managed to get one in after-rally informal bishram. It was a very small crowd, nonetheless it must have been an unique experience for the listeners because it was on the theme nobody talked about at the rally.

And the fact that nobody particularly talked about the issues of reforming political parties and mainstreaming the Maoists (everybody focused their attack on the King and his regime) was a disappointing matter for me, although I was pleasantly surprised to find, in my quick and limited individual interactions, that everybody shared my view that political leaders' ambiguous talk and their parties' failure to bring fresh leadership are major inhibition for citizen's movement to integrate with political parties' movement to make that a popular political movement for a democratic republic.

5. Meeting several Sajhaites, some for the first time, at the rally was another pleasant experience.

6. I had made my own placard. Unfortunately, I do not have my picture with it with me. I will post the picture of the placard alone.

Yes You are right nepe??.How ever coverage in Nepal post and kantipur were disappointing?.I didn?t hear anyone demanding restoring of democracy?..One person came close saying was Murari but I was not there for his vasan,,,,,,I was there to support republican democracy??.I was not even there to tell king what he did wrong or stupid but I was there to send him message his time is up. I was there to show support to those Nepali who are fighting for their right to have republic democratic Nepal.
My core believes is Monarchy system is itself is defected so why I want to examine what it did bad ??

The ghazal I recited in a small after-rally meeting:
(Bhaute's ghazal with some minor modification)
