This article by Baburam Bhattarai is very touching.

"Hudaina Bihan mirmire ma tara jharera nagaye ,
Bandaina muluk dui-char saput marera nagaye"

- Bhupi Sherchen

I cannot agree more with Bhupi here

budhi amai,
:-)
Bhupi sherchan did not say "sara janta marera na gaye"
he said "dui char saput". I am sure you know the difference between the people Bhupi is referring to and the people dying. FYI Bhupi is referring to martyrs not Rame and Shayme that are getting killed just because they do not like the ideology, disagree or refuse to pay the extortion. No one can justify the killing, extortion and kidnapping not even Bhupi.

SIV Ji

Mero ni sadar dandawat!

But bhupi's lines would have been true if Maoist, Parties and the King had acted in the interest of the nation when there were only 2-4 saput.

Parties used to think they can wipe out maoists by guns. They turned deaf ear to their demand when there were only 2-4 saput.

We have nearly 15,000 saput and our "KING" still thinks he can wipe out the maoists.

I dont blame the maoists totally for this disaster. Didnot the rulers of the coutry had any responsible role to avoid this accident?. Arent they selfish, power hungry and adamant? Especially the parties - they used to say - we cannot talk about king duting their dialogue with maoists. When maoists asked for election of constituent election they rejected their offer because they had the POWER by then. Now they dont, they are in the street and they are the one to be ask for constituent election.

Since the country didnot wake up with the blood from 2-4 Saput - the 21st century Nepal needs 2-4 lakh saput to change fudal royal or RNA centered regime

SIV ji, time sanga Bhupi's line lai interpret garau na hai - just commenting in every word just for the sake of a comment does not make any sense ke

budhi amai,

Nepal would definitely be better if we had saputs, any saputs in power, but alas we have crooks, crooks and crooks.

I hope I made my point clear and I am not arguing for arguments shake only.

>> I dont blame the maoists totally for this disaster
I disagree here. I blame moaists completely and fully for the disaster, no one else.
When they started their "revolution" multi party was in full force. Then the parties were their main and only enemy, they were called nati-nationals, crooks, foreign paws etc. As time passed they became stronger and bolder. They started collecting, looting and extorting so much money that no one can keep track or has track. (Where did all that money go?? That's beside the point.) Now they have joined hand with the parties and all of a sudden parties are saints for maobadis.
They are all evil opportunists, nothing more. By comparing our martrys with maobadis you are doing injustice to our martrys who gave up their life for uplifting the naiton and its people and not for people who have been the main cause of the downfall of the nation and its people.

Bhul bhaye maaf pau, agyakari chora :-)

Shiv Ji

Darsan!

Well I have my way of interpreting things and you have yours. Its ok to have the differences.

Whoever comes into the power in future, I hope a less opportunist, a lover of peace and democracy comes.

I am not here to defend my point. So Shiv jee

Goodluck with your successful time in Sajha.

Budi amai,
Darshan.

We are not here on a crusade we are only here for a healthy discussion and sajha provides an excellent platform to learn different ideas and exchange ideas that's how we grow.

Please do not take conflicting view points; personally that's when we stop growing.

I also hope that we get good leaders, new leaders and the journey starts from people like you and me.

I cannot imagine how anyone while in power can amass so much wealth, exploit poor, turn a blind eye towards the country and its citizen that they are supposed to be serving for, kill any competitions, and still not show an ounce of conscience. And this happens time after time, person after person. Something terribly is wrong with the culture that’s breeding this kind of people.

Poverty and lack of education are the main causes for these crooks to prosper. Since the economic progress of South East Asia is growing in bounds and folds it will benefit Nepal for sure. Once living standard gets better people will get educated and these problems will disappear for ever. At least, lets hope!

the Maoists are now engaged (successfully) in a major publicity blitz targeted at both domestic and international audience.

if you read between the lines, this piece is just a part of this campaign... this one focused more on rapport building, primarily, with the elderly in nepal... the sheer grief that mr. bhattarai has expressed (over his mother's death) is less significant than what he's trying to accomplish with this article...

pretty interesting read though. sorry to hear about ms. bhattarai's death.

I agree. They are playing all the cards they have. We will have to see how time will sort everything out.

Well, the last I heard from Nepal was that the popularity of the Maoists among the people is at all time high...attributing mainly to the recent public statements made by the Maoists leaders... I guess the challenge for them now is whether they can sustain it... I read somewhere they may even withdraw the planned indefinite bandh next month to avoid upsetting the people...

The 'mainstream' parties and the US seem to be aware of this growing popularity of the Maoists among the general public and are trying hard to minimize giving them the edge... I guess the US is just freaked out after the Hamas victory in Palestine...

Echoes, its utter nonsense to accuse Bhattarai's writing above for publicity- anyone would grieve if his/her mother died. It was a very touching article indeed- Baburam comes from the poorest of poor families in remote Nepal, and his mother, always a rebel (fighting against repressing social norms) did probably say those words to Baburam before she died- only the ones living in remote Nepal do really bear the brunt of poverty- and she was a direct witness of injustice happening then. I'm not justifying maoist atrocities, but at least what Baburam says here isn't for cheap publicity- as what some of you think. I feel you Baburam!!

Unless people from kathmandu get together and revolt againts the King, Maoists can never gain full controll of Kathmandu. And they seem to have realized this fact.
For people to start a massive revolt, they would need a cause, mainly democracy and the leaders who will lead democracy. Right now Nepal lacks that. So there isn't a strong cause for such protest.
Maoists on the other side will never get support of the majority of people for their history of killing and the constant fear they cast among general people.
Now, it is the democratic leaders that need to do their homework and take full advantage of such situation. Since more and more people are aware of democracy, the leaders would have support by default only if they rise our of this mess and set themselves as superior of the 3 political forces. And joining hands with Maoists is certainly not going to help. And sadly, there doesn't seem to be any leader of competence.
So what happens is, King will be ruling for more years to come; Maoists will be killing people here and there from time to time to make a point of their presence and that they cannot be ignored and are still a threat even though they can never take full control of Kathmandu or other major cities of Nepal. Lastly, the political leaders will be lost as usual, not knowing what they even stand for, and will be used as a ping pong ball to rally back and forth by the King and the Moaists.

DC_Girl,

It is surprising that you fell right on the trap. Maobadis are using all they can and using all their cards. Baburam is using his mother's death for political purpose. A mother became a mere political pawn after her death.
Nepal will never get out of the current crisis until people see beyond what these crooked leaders trying to do.

>>Baburam comes from the poorest of poor families in remote Nepal, and his mother, always a rebel

Now look where he is now! One of the richest people around. Once you calculate the money extorted from each and every family, each and every business and the banks they have looted he will be one of the richest man around.

I have nothing against his mother. I respect her as a person and respect her stand on social issues just like I would respect any other persons belief.

Shiv, what maoists are doing is inhumane- but it doesn't differentiate you from them if thats how you think. He might do whatever, but to bring out a cheap conspiracy theory that what Baburam wrote grieving about his mother is for publicity, is even cheaper.

Read the article again- he's never this emotional when he writes- if you haven't already read his papers and press releases- Prachanda takes care of the emotional part mostly, and I do admire Baburam for his knowledge, although he put it to an obsolete practice. In any case, its like saying Dipendra killed his parents because he couldnt marry the girl he wanted. I don't think Baburam is ideologically that dirty to use his (dead) mother's image for publicity stunt.

Baburam, personally, wealth-wise, is still poor. Ill-aquired wealth is bad, but if you compare Gyanendra with him with regards to their wealth and purpose of acquiring wealth, morally, Baburam is one step above- he has a purpose, a cause- he's investing in, for people, unlike Gyane. And its not Baburam's wealth, if they have any 'wealth' at all- its the parties.

DC Girl,

Second wrong dont make the first one right.

I am not here to defend gyane or his chamchas however you acknowledge that "Ill-aquired wealth is bad" and yet side with Baburam. What does that make you?

Baburam is not poor by any means, not anymore.

>>..morally, Baburam is one step above..

What an irony.. you see morality in a ruthless killer and an extortionist thug who is using maobad as a face mask??

It is kind-of uncanny for a perfectly sane, humble, hardworking and dignified mother to give birth to insane, radical, murderer who would put monsters to shame. But we have heard of tales of such happenings in our mythologies and in real life in general.

Baburam is a perfect example of that.

I have no idea whether or not he is trying to utilize this opportunity to show a human side of Maoist by publishing this obituary for his mother, but I would give him benefit of doubt in two counts ( Not that that lunatic needs it )

1) Mothers are always respectable figure. (Also, she was not part of any inhumane acts.)

2) Even demons have love for their mother no matter how radical, inhuman, disgusting, barbaric, and monster they are.

She died a natural death; I hope Baburam would allow millions of Nepalese to have that "good fortune" as well.

Maoists had a growing mass grasp in rural areas by "free will" of the people initially by their social messages. Now, the people are with those who has gun pointed at their head. What can't fear make one do? Fear for their life and their loved ones.

Anyone can have a good cause and philosophy, but how one goes on to achieve those very objectives makes them what they are.

IndisGuise.
