Hi I am Saurav Manandhar majoring in Environmental engineering. I am a student at Columbia College at Columbia, Missouri. I am on my 2nd semester here. I want to transfer to some good and cheap engineering college where I can find a part-time work too. I am on F-1 student visa..

I heard there are lots of Nepalese in Minnasota working parttime without work permit and MN also has good enginnering school for my major. Also I heard in Maryland there are lots of jobs available. Please if you guys know anything about good and cheap engineering college with where I can work please contact me. I am feeling really frustrated because this college I am in is very expensive and I got no work.

I am getting all my Geneberal Education done right now according to University of Missouri syllabus

Please contact me at sauravmanandhar@hotmail.com

Sincerely,
Saurav Manandhar

how about transferring to a 2-yr community college and then finish your undergrad from some private university? You can also transfer to a 4-yr community college......... But, I doubt they have the courses you are looking for........still, nothing to loose......give it a try dude....

I have heard that Seneca College in (Toronto Ontario) costs not more than 1800 $ a year. That's dirt cheap basement bargain. Anwway, I no longer care much about money for school, cuz govt. loans pays most part of it .

netaa_ji,

Woa buddy!! Seems like you have been totally brainwashed by Canadian policies. Trust it looks all good on paper but its nothing but crap.

Ever wonder why there arent international student in here???

Canada is one of the worst places for international students. First of all, its hard to find an odd job compared to US...and even if you do the tuition fees mount to almost 10k every year( fulltime, university. unlike my buddy Netaa_ji has mentioned)...last but not the least College and Universities are not the same...I mean colleges do hand in 4 year engg/bach degrees but they have very limited programs...colleges here are mostly for 3 years and for diploma programs..so if you want to do something..you gotta go to university..having said that there are handful of really good universites...Queens university,..Waterloo etc for engg..

my suggestion would be for you is to do 2 year course in communicty college if you are starving for money..go to VA area...save some money and two last 2 years in some rural areas where its not that expensive..

well i think u should do as Casey have said. If u want to come to washington metro area than u can go to Univ. of Dist of Columbia. I think they have some Environmental course and their tution is cheap. U do 2 and half yrs (mean complet first period of junior) and than tranfer to Univ. of MD at Easten Shore. They are one of the best or marine science in nation. BUT do not forget to maintain ur GPA cuz its very tough to get admission in School of Architecture and Mainre Science in Univ of MD. Just to remind u, transfer when there is 3 semester left for u graduation or else they won't admit u.
Good luck
P.S. try to save $$$ as much as while u are in UDC cuz UMD is expensive.

Swaati-thats a very good suggestion, but I don't know how anyone will be able to save up to go to UMD. Its next to impossible. I think out of state tuition is something like $6500/sem. How can you save so much living in one of the most expensive areas in the nation. UDC is a good idea though. Since cool keta has already completed his general education, try to finish BS from UDC and then apply to several graduate school for full stipend. You should be able to find a roomate in VA or MD and take metro to school. Work as a server in a restaurant (you can make upto $150 per shift). Seriously, take action dude. Have a back up plan just in case.

U MD Eastern Shore is a good school for environmental program like Swaati said. I was accepted there for my MS but got a better offer from somewhere else. DC area has a lot fo job in the environmental professionals. Keep in mind that once you get a MS from a good school, where you did your BS doesn't count. Try to do well and maintain at least a 3.6 GPA in your undergrad. Good luck.

thx Bedrock by the way tution has gone up in MD this year again its $8400 for in state and $14 000 for international student. Its so funny new governor have raised the tution just it make university more saleable just so pathetic thinking.
BTW why our goverment follow the foot steps of Indian goverment. In indian embassy they have education dept. who help their fellow country students geting private scholarships. They go to colleges and negotiate for the students, no wonder thats how lots of indian students are studying in umd, G'town, GMU and AU, or else how filthy rich they can be in comparision to their nepali counterparts.

Casey00...

What the heck are you talking about. Is it hard to find odd job in Canda ?
Who told you that ?

To my experience, it is 20 times easier to find any type of jobs and at lest 10 times easier to find any office jobs in Canada than in the US.

When you get work permit, you will be not only able find job but you will be able to choose from many of the available employers whom you have been selected.
Just like in the US, many people work without work permit and I have encountered many people asking for job on cash.

Damn...I never had had any experience of working in different occupations which were never related to my formal education like Recruiter, Independent Contractor..etc

I wished I had arrived in Canada much earlier than I really did. It would have had cost me so much less, cost me lot less head ache and gotten me so much govt. support.

You are being funny here. From YOUR EXPERIENCE you are assuming that it is 10 times easier to find a job and that applies to EVERYBODy lol..Perhaps you are little out of reality...Do you know the condition of SKILLED IMMIGRANTS in Canada? maybe you should chekc the stats... Now you might say..oh..immigants have to deal with everywhere...But let me tell you , its SKILLED immigrants..those immigrants arent here cuz they wont DV lottery...they were recognized of their skills and brought to this country..to give them opp to work..but has that plan worked? NOOOO..what has worked fine is the fact that Canada is being successful in bringing people to get their low population going up..its a big country after all!! Soneone gotta do that low level job, right?

Maybe you had easier time..I give you that..I mean..some people have found jobs relatively soon...but that doesnt mean everyone has..so it wouldnt be NICE to assume...Also, when I was tlaking about jobs in previous post..I meant odd jobs that students fill in..not some corporate junk you are talking about..

well.I can understand..you havent been in Canada for a while..if you were here early..you would have understood..but again no..worries..no hard feelings..this is just how I feel bud.

Swati, that would be the day. Have you been to Nepali Embassy at Leroy Place or met anyone who works there? They are absolute incompetents. This kind of innovative service would never cross their mind. Even if it did, they would not lift a pinky finger to make any effort towards it. Given the fact that so many Nepali students come to the US for further studies, our embassy should take some initiatives in helping them. But no, why would they, who says it is our tax money that is funding their job? When it is like pulling tooth out when just having to renew a passport, should we expect them to actually negotiate a lower tuition for us?

And you know what else, Graduate Teaching or Research Assistants from India and Pakistand and several other third world countries have some kind of treaty with the US Government or IRS and they are exempt from Social Security and Fedreal Taxes while they are students. ..........but Not Nepal.
I don't have any hopes from Nepali Embassy or Government doing anything for benefits of students.

and Swaati-The Maryland Governor Sucks for raising the UMD tuition.
I feel sorry for undergraduate students without scholarship to get through college. It is getting ridiculous.

Students IN F1 visa cannot complete school here in US ... guaranteed !! unless they bound themselves to living like beggar here in US ... goto work early in the morning ,walking some distance then catching a bus, then goto college, then goto another job, come home, eat whatever comes handy and then sleep , to repeat that process again ... no life man ... 5-6 yrs of slavery , that's what it is ... student life is like a slave life man, for F1 people ... well , before 5 yrs, at least things were different ... right after u graduate, there were companies knocking ur door to hire doctors, engineers and $hit like dat ... but now, there are so many f**King degree holders that getting a decent job after graduating is like winning a lottery .... hiring companies gives their first preference to their citizens, then to legal aliens, their last resort is F1 students, coz they don't want to go thru hassles of applying for their H1 visas and $hit like dat ... i've seen F1 students who have a master's degree working in gas stations , or selling phone cards to the stores ... tha's just lame man ....

this is my frustation ya'll ... different people will have different views on this subject , this is just my opinion ....

for anyone who's planning to come to US on F1 visa for undergradate, i'd suggest, invest that money in ur own country (NEPAL) ... with that money u can complete ur undergraduate easily in nepal ... kheli kheli ... or u can invest that money in something else, like buying equipment for u bands and recording ur songs , $hit like dat u know, to keep that money flowing inside ur own country ...

peace evryone...

Well, I know first hand how many of the skilled immigrants are doing in Canada. In fact I was working as a Recruiter for a HR palcement company until late last year. In fact I took interviews with , processed job applications as well as assigned them to many jobs for Chinese, Indian, Latino, Black skilled immigrants. Many of these immigrants had Masters Degree and most of them had Bachelors Degree in various discplines.

I really hate to say this, but what I felt was that almost all them had come to Canada with an expection of qucik fix. Most of them have a mind set of culture from back home which makes it diffifult for them to immerse themselves into the ................
......right ?

Saginaw Valley State University at Saginaw, Michigan

Reasonably cheap school. I had an option to go to this school in north Michigan but I went to a different school.
