Hi all!!

I wanted to share with you all an article I have come across recently. I am sure many of you have heard of it and are well aware of it. Even then, I thought it would not be a waste to mention about it here on Sajha , for the news relates to someone amongst us that shines like the Sun , true to her name as well as virtues...

I do believe, with due respect to her, that every Sajhabashis should read it. I hope I am not on the dangerous grounds by posting this message...

The article can be found here....

http://www.nation.com.np/column_4.htm

Enjoy!!

I like her personally. Love her writing style and superb command in the language of English which we see alot of times here in sajha. But as always , i oppose with her ideas...and i really wish that i did not have to do that.
Mauslims are bad. They did bad things to Nepali people in Iraq. I am little confused here about what she's trying to say. Is she trying to say that it is okay for muslims to do such in human behaviors because muslims have a history and well established reputation of commiting crime to the unbelievers?
ORRRRRRRRRRR, she's trying to say that it is okay for them to do such acts because we already have problems at home with maoists? so we should shut up..

just some thoughts , no offense intended..

Marich ji:

Thank you for posting the link. You are way too generous in your compliments. Like you said, just my musings.

Confused and Dyamn, I appreciate your comments and encouragement. I am glad we are able to disagree without killing eachother. A very close family member disagrees with every opinion of mine: one significant, she thinks Bush is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oh well, she is entitled to her opinions!

On Muslims: One of my neighbors(our community is very diverse) is orthodox muslim with the hizab and the chador. They have been extremely helpful and have the most adorable kids. I looked at them wondering how could anyone just go up to them and hurt them because of what the militants did in Iraq. Militants whether Muslim, or Hindu or communist (Maoists, Shining path) are of a different breed. I would hate for my American neighbors to read the USEFN bombing in Nepal and come after me with a knife. The bottom line is, the Maoists ARE NEPALI but All Nepalese are NOT MAOISTS! But there may also be those enlightened few who hold all Nepalese responsible for the horrible acts of the Maoists. In such a case, you and I will carry the burden of being Nepali Militants for the rest of our lives!

It elates my heart to find that many of us here know how to, "agree to disagree...".What Sitara (or anyone else for that matter,) says or writes are her opinions and that is how, at least, I look at them. At the same time, I also think what she so eloquently writes, more often than not, gives tongue to those Nepalese women who may have difficulty verbalizing ideas, due to the lack of means, oppurtunities or guts or whatever... I, for myself, can safely say that many a times Sitara's expressions have entertained me, provoked me, touched me, thrilled me, soothed me and infuriated me. No wonder I am her fan.

Many Sajha visitors possess distinct and incomparable talents. As a result, Sajha has evolved into a huge tree akin to a large Banyan, with very many diverse branches and roots, sprouting and shooting off left and right, as they wish; and, rightfully, the diversity sustains it firmly against hurricanes of any size and strenth. No wonder i am addicted to Sajha. I call it "Chakrabyuha", where, once couple of years ago i stepped in and, since then, have not been able to find my way out.

Anyways, ke bhanna la thi , kura kata po pugi ra..

Oh!! yes, Malai Sulsule le Khusukka bhaneko hijo rati ... Her articles, writings, musings , whatever one likes to call them, nowon are available regularly on the web-page mentioned above. So don't forget to check it often.

no!.no!.no!. back up...Now!!..don't even go there.. Remain assured, I love my day-job ; and, I have no desire to quit it so soon.

Dear Sitara ji,
While I sympathize with your love towards innocent looking neighbors, at the same time I would like to make you cautious and would like to ask you to be realistic with leaving your personal bias aside for a moment and think reasonably.
Now why did I say that? Because they(muslims) are fundamentally wrong. And there are no such things like liberal muslims and extremists or little muslim and more muslim or any other terms which they use so easily.
They all read the same kuran and if they call themselves muslims they all believe in what kuran says. If you do not think I am telling you the truth then please go to your muslim neighbors and ask them if they belive in kuran or not. Then ask them if they believe in kuran than how can they not believe on what kuran asks them to do with non believers.Either they believe in what kuran says or they don't believe in what kuran says. Either they are muslims or they are non muslims. They certainly not gonna tell you anything nasty at your face because like everyone else they would also like to live in the U.S.A, but deep down I have a strong feeling that they would at least support if not practically implement the orders of kuran to treat non muslims.

They believe in the religion and wear hizab and chador, that means they believe in Kuran. Believing in kuran means believing in murders and inhuman treatments like what those extremist did in Iraq.
There are no such thing like good muslims and bad muslims. There are only fundamentally wrong people who call themselves Muslims. Have you ever given a thought on the matter that those muslims who put up the face of friendliness and preach about love and goody goody all day read the same kuran 4 or 5 times a day as to those muslims who sliced the throat of that poor Nepali kid in Iraq? The kuran which tells them to go kill people like you( considering that youýre not muslim). I don' t think the so called "libera" or whatever term they are using themselves to describe muslims read any other kuran or different version of the kuran.. if they do then please enlighten me...

Please read this :
http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openthread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=16978&show=all

Please focus on the messages written by pine77

Now, i'm not saying that we should go violent against muslims. I always favor peace and love. But seriouly, please be careful from the people who are fundamentally wrong. and who read the book and base thier culture and values to the book which tells them to go kill other people. Please be careful- thats is all i am trying to say.

Thanks for your time.. and sorry that i am posting this message on this thread, but i had to somewhere after i read the article and some other posts in sajha recently..

Friends, I take your encouragement to heart and bore more people with my opinions! ;)

Sweet Friend Dyamn:

Thank you for your concern, I appreciate it. But, that kind of paranoia, stereotyping and insecurity will stop me from living and letting live. That is how the Holocaust happened!

Here are the key things that Militant groups(Islamic, Hindu, Maoist, Shining Path,.............) look for while recruiting:

Male and Females: It could be you or me:
-insecure
-paranoid
-suspicous
-powerhungry
-those easily manipulated with doctrines
-those unable to distinguish between the crimnals and the innocents
-those who believe "KILLING, RAPING, PLUNDERING" for a higher good is justified
-And those who have no reverence for life!

It is an uncomfortable thought that anyone of us can be a great candidate for committing murder in the name of or against religion, race, class, creed and/or opinion.

Thanks to Marich for pointing out Sitara's wonderful article.

To Sitara - you're just wonderful in how you write, and more importantly what is inside of you - 'karuna' indeed to humanity.

Following is a little piece I wrote in a site somplace else in a discussion similar to this. Just to support your view, in a way.

It is aweful what happened in Iraq. Twelve innocent Nepalis were slaughtered by extremists, terrorists. Even to this day, I can't bare to watch the video on internet the killings that took place in Iraq of these twelve innocent people. (I wathced the beheading of Nicholas Berg, and for three hours or so, I was in a fog, dazed what was going around me. So, the description I got from people that watched the Nepali beheading followed by the close range shootings of the eleven others, just seem too much for me to take).

And then in anger, our own fellow Nepalese in Kathmandu go on rage, rioting, burning and killing innoncent Muslims. These Muslims in Nepal had nothing to do with the killings in Iraq - so what's the point?

People who killed twelve Nepalese in Iraq are called, extremeists, terrorists, or simply bad people. Does anyone have names like that for the people in Kathamandu looking to maim and kill just as innocent Muslims? They are terrorists, extremists, and simply put, bad people. What's the difference between those Iraqi extremists and the Nepali extremists? Not much, in my humble view.

When the twelve innocent Nepalese went to Iraq for a job to make a little better living for themselves and their families, they knew a little bit of the danger that came along with their employment in the warzone of Iraq.

But, when (and I don't know how long they've been there) the Muslims came to live in Kathamandu, they may have heard, perhaps, about the peaceful Nepal and it's peace loving citizens. Boy, were they wrong!

As bad as I feel about the 12 Nepalese or any other innocent citizens being killed in Iraq, I am amazed to see this outpouring or sympathy for the 12 Nepalese that were slain in Iraq and not much of a disgust and any actions on more than 10,000 Nepalis being killed by each other in the past few years in this Maoists insurgengy in the whole of Nepal.

In brief - as far as the riots go in Kathmandu, all I have to say is, two wrongs don't make one right.

.. here's the difference sitara ji, if other religious people committ such inhuman acts.. then they are physcos.. but if muslims commit such acts then they are true muslims.. why? cuz they are doing what islam tells them to do..
i have been a hindu for years but i have never read anywhere or any brahman has told me to go kill muslims or christains for that matter.. if i do it than i'm a physco.. i will be doing it because of my mental imbalance.. but it wouldn't be the same if i were a muslim.. I would be doing the right thing according to my belief and values.. would be doing what the kuran tells me to do.. so i think , we all humans should seriously consider Kuran and be catious of its followers.. to be safe from the people who base thier beliefs and values on a book that teaches them about being inhuman..
And as far as i know they haven't come up with the revised version of kuran with the corrections on killings and tortures on non muslims .. or i haven't met any so called liberal muslim who use tipex(i don't kow how yo spell that white thing ) to hide the killing and inhuman teachings on kuran....
hmmmmm
dyamnnn

okie dok. here i go. good one sitara. very true.
***
even in muslim world they (muslims) are trying to come to rude realization: muslim religion is hijacked by fanatics. school massacare in Bethem, Russia (f***! children were shot in their backs while trying to flee!!), beheading of a Nepali so publicly, recent suicide attacks in 2 buses in Israel, two blown up planes in Russia, and of course the twin tower attacks. Who did those? Muslims and muslims. what do you think when you think of muslims? terrorists, murderers and worse. All these terrorist attacks were done by who? Muslims. All terrrorists are muslims, but not all muslims are terrorists. So they may be all fanatics the thinking goes , nonetheless muslims. This is a fact. Muslim world (at least the columnists, writers, novelists) realizes this and is becoming worried - big time.
***
And what about those terrorists maoists who cut off people's head, crush legs of dalits in town sqaure in broad day light? ... and the list goes on. Let's not forget about the gawkers who don't lift a finger to stop. And there are vandals - the opportunists, no better than those muslims or those maoists.

SsNY:

You hit it right on the nail! Your article answers Dyamn question.

Dyam: This is all in sincerity, you will find your answers on "what liberal muslims think of militants". Please read "Reading Lolita in Tehran" by Azar Nafisi ( She is a professor of Literature currently teaching in Johns Hopkins but who lived in Iran under Khomeini reign). If you feel you are truly searching for knowledge, I would ask you to read the book. Beautifully written and equally powerful with anecdotes of what she and her students (all muslim) went through; such horrors! From this book you will know the difference between Militants and common muslims. Like the difference between you and the Maoist.
And this is all I have to say to you on the subject of "there are no liberal muslims". Such sweeping statements based on your primary/personal experience can only be answered by being informed.

However, thank you for your endeavours to engage me in a discussion with you where I have nothing more to contribute. The onus lies upon you to go beyond surface sensationalism.

ppl, what are you all trying to prove?? Islam is a good religion?? totally, 100 percent agree with you..no doubt on that..

but here it is, those ppl who killed those children, those ppl who kill themselves on sucide bombs in middleast, those ppl who slaughter ppl like pigs, those ppl who fight among themselves, these are beilieved to be true muslims and these ppl just dont live in a single country, they are scattered around the world, every part of the world, and again most of the world's terrorists are the Islamic Extrimist group..with this kind of perfomence by those "true belivers" how can i even THINK OF Islam being a good religion....Sitara, u were ashamed of those ppl in Nepal, throwing stone and burning Qatar Airlines office, and you stood of for what you thought was right, you wrote an article, let me see ONE MUSLIM, A TRUE MUSLIM, who goes to Masjid every friday, doesnt eat pig, and beilives in ALLAH and MUHAMMAD as his last prophet, stating the terrorists are thugs and sucide bombers are pigs....they cant say it, they wont be able to say it, coz those thugs are fighting for Islam, and their only motive is to convert whole world to Islam...and that is the only way Binladen will stop attacking America, when AMerica is declared a Muslim nation..

ok clerify me out here, "liberal Muslims"???, then how abt "liberal Nazi's", i bet only hitler was a extremist, not all Nazi's wanted jews to be slaughtered, but they didnt rise up on their beliefs and halocaust took place...so Nazis were good ppl guys?? y isnt there any Nazi party now??
