Introduction
It doesn’t matter how much you try to avoid it, but situations of violence do occur. The best way to stay safe is to be prepared to defend yourself at any time. This article is not intended to advocate the use of violence; rather it is designed to help you escape from a situation in which you are being attacked. These steps will show you how to efficiently and quickly win a street fight.
Instructions
Difficulty: Challenging
Steps
1
Step One
Analyze the situation. How many people are involved? Do you have backup? Do they have backup? Analyzing the situation is, by far, the most important step. If you weigh 120 pounds, you will probably not be able to win a fight against three 400-pound body building ultimate fighters. Know your limits. If you know you can’t win, run away.
2
Step Two
Decide to fight or fly. If you must fight, the idea is to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible. Put something between you and your opponent. This could be a car, your outstretched arms or some kind of blunt weapon.
3
Step Three
Assume that your opponent is a trained fighter and wants to hurt you. This is the way you must approach any confrontation. Never underestimate the person you’re fighting or you could end up getting hurt. If a weapon is available, use it because your opponent certainly will. A weapon can be anything from a lighter wrapped in your fist to a baseball bat. If you are in a life or death situation, all’s fair. Use whatever is available to defend yourself.
4
Step Four
Catch your opponent off guard. Attack as quickly as possible. If you have a weapon, aim for the midsection or the knees. Either of these places will immobilize someone if you hit them hard enough. This will also lessen the risk of hurting someone more than you intended.
5
Step Five
Go for the quick knockout. If you don’t have a weapon, strike your foe with a closed fist in an upward motion. Try to connect at the point where the jaw bone connects to the side of the head. If you hit them hard enough, they won’t be getting back up.
6
Step Six
Continue attacking until your enemy stops attacking you. When you are no longer in danger, you should stop attacking to prevent injuring your opponent any more than you need to.
7
Step Seven
Assess the situation again after landing a successful attack. Remember, in the eyes of the law once you have immobilized a person you are no longer acting in self defense. This means if you continue beating someone who is laying on the ground you will not be able to claim that you were in danger. If your opponent is no longer on his feet or is no longer attempting to engage, you should get away as quickly as possible.
8
Step Eight
Alert the authorities of the situation as soon as you can. If the person you fought with is badly injured, you need to call for medical help as well.

Overall Tips & Warnings

* It’s a good idea to get some self defense training to be better prepared for times when you might have to defend yourself from harm.
* You may be a person of honor that would not take a low blow or a cheap shot, but your opponent probably is. Act accordingly.
* Don’t aim to kill. If you hit someone in the temple of the head, the middle of the chest or the throat you will probably kill them.
* Never engage in a fight somewhere where there are no other people if you can help it.

kalopani I do agree that muay thai is one of the best fighting ways in the world but that doesn't mean others copy from it otherwise all punches and kicks, knee strikes elbow etc etc should be copyright protected.....Budokaido is Nepali Karate....invented in Nepal....
the tournaments are governed with rules .....there is a free style version of Budokaido too which is lethal..........where one can use all the tools needed to fight.......I have personally done various types of martial arts since the age of 4......and I am in my late 20s I learnt taekwando, Judo ,Siturio Karate, whushu, muay thai and boxing.....and I still practice, Muay thai was tough to learn because of the raw styles to harden your body ,shinbone and muscles by constantley repeating the strikes again and again untill your body acts on instinct. But that was the principle of all the martial arts I learnt...the only reason they dont look deadly in competition is because of the rules that govern a style of fight...And Muay Thai just another very tough Martial form like all of them...it also matters who or how it is used..........and when...so kalapani I really agree your point but I beg to differ that its the best.....its one of the best. And I am proud that Nepal where martial is huge and taught in schools and clubs has her own version of martial art....Warrior Nation, Home of the bravest of the Brave gurkhas......and guess what ib Budokaidi Khukuri style fight is also taught....watch this free style budokaido fight.

Maddog , i respect your views and feelings towards karate.. i understand you have a long experence on martial arts and you might be good too.. but brother.. .i had a rough growing up in kathmandu because of bad companies... had to get envolved in lots of street fighting like most of us here from kathmandu and other parts of Nepal...i too started practing when i was around 7 or 8..i did karate, takewando, and boxing for six years... and i continued boxing here in the usa too and was able to win prizes and respects here and there... until one day i got into a real fight with some gorays and realized that non of the things i practiced was helpful...
i had so many blind spots.. although my punching was crisp and powerful.. i had things coming at me, punches, woods, bottles from all directions and i wasn't trained for that... then i studied muay thai.. it is so well equipped that it is amazing.. you have 8 weapons and every one of them is vicious.. i don't live to fight, but for someone who wants to learn the real martal art should focus on martial arts, not dancing or kata...
good to see that our brothers from Nepal are forming their own karate but i would love to see them in UFC and prove their point rather than in a dojo breaking some wood piles , or breaking a board... and doing kata.. the most useless thing... there is actually a moment on the video of kungchido which i posted up there , the guy while giving demonstration says to come slow to this follower.. he was speaking everything in english but said " bistrai aau na" in Nepali.. i wonder how many times you can say that to your opponent in a real fight...
karate teaches good disipline, good exercise but i doubt it if it's very practicle.. i would love to see some ufc karate champions one day... until then.. muay thai is my best...
:)

Kalapani, I don't agree with you - there is no best martial art. Like I said before, it is up to the practioner of the martial art how he/she responds to the situation that make it look good or bad.

Whoosh !!!

i am not asking you to agree with me.. until i practiced M.T i didn't think there was any good martial art either.. i just wante dto share some experence and my hobby.... not trying to brainwash anyone with anything.... you're right.. it depends on an individual how hard he /she works , their attitude and response towards a given situation.. however that does mean whaton they have put several hours of effort is meaningless.. like good education, good behavior, good car, good shoes, good food, there is good style of martial art too.. why not go for good is the question that i'm trying to address...

Hi kalopani you and I are not much different then...as you know in Kathmandu and in the toles you have a choice...be the bully and participate all the fights and proove that you are Aatilo or be bullied and hide like a sissy.....well like you I went to Dipendra police school and ask anyone who went to DPS how fights were and how often it happened.........and I lived in Boudha....and you know Boudhas reputation in terms of rough fights and life ways of the young bloods.
well I dont know what to say to you that all the years of training didnt help you when you were attacked because it sure has helped me...well I had learnt some muay thai before but when i was at a situation here......I was able to defend my self quite well and I used mostly judo and tae-kwado ,karate kicks to throw punch and kick those guys untill they ran...Judo helped me the most as they all came right at me as I began to throw them around like rag dolls. and many instances at my work about 7 months ago which used to be in a huge loading dock for a company , constant lifting boxes weing over 50 to a 100 lbs for continuos 8 hr shift and stacking them and wheeling them to their locations witha two wheeler weiging about 200-300lbs for hours. I am5 feet 4 inches tall,145lbs the shortest guy at work...all my buddies are red neck muscle building 200-350....almost everyone over 6 feet and more.... tall and strong. I had to proove that I was capable of doing more than they could and had to beat upreal good a couple of the ones that tried to bully me or take advantage of me for being short i hurt them real good to earn their respect, soon after work we all went to the park and I trained them the basic of MMA(mixed martial arts) after a lot of requests........imagine the pressure when someone in the loading dock comes and challenges you saying I can kick your as)s......no matter what MMA you do......I mean when the word went out that I do MMA......random guys at the loading dock challenged me to fights and my buddies often joked about it.........well I have had my share of BAngs here and I tthank my backgrounds that I survived.......I earned a nickname too....its funny but everyone calls me Maddogg at work thats where my user name comes from. I left that job like 7 months ago because I had to move on I had been there too long 7 yrs........well I still practice and would like to teach somewhere but not a new form or type like those nepali guys..........Just MMA...the art of defense..........hey how about I name it JHAGADA
LOL thats sooo funny...im only kidding....but I am glad that Muay thai is your sport of choice......I just found to mix and match my trainings to make it useful for me .......

i'm very glad to know you man..i feel connected with you..i too went to school at siddhartha vanasthali, where more than anything you learn to fight .. really.. anyone who has gone to svmb and finished slc in 1995 around knows how rough it was.. grew up in dillibazzar and fought since very little over anything starting from kites to girls and b.s like staring... gone are those stupid days.. but what remains is the love towards martial arts... and the fight... i am very polite and walk out most of the time.. but you know trouble don't come according to your choice..i do get in situations once in a while... last time i had to fight with like 10 gorays.. it was hard after i got tired... and until someone broke the fight i had serious bruses in my face..
I agree with you and will come to train with you , if you start training " jhagada" .. i can relate and comprehend that is will the best street fighting ever... cuz you'll be teaching from real experence.. i have joined some martial classes here in usa too but they all are after dollars.. and training kids , cuz kids and their family bring more money.. i can easlily kick those teachers .. but at the age of 29.. i can't do that... maddog you are an eye opener to me.. i will definately check judo out, i have not practiced that yet...

you have an intersting life bro.. take good care of your health.. maddog, nepali dude... and everyone who love martial arts and fight, i salute you guys.. and i know what it feels and how it feels like to leave that life behind and try to bite the bullet and let things go.. .. although we have come very far from those street fightings .... but the spirit remains in good faith...
live a healthy and happy life and keep practicing.. let us know via sajha if you train in future or open any gum...
best of wishes...

dude kalopani.....you went to sidhartha......man My cousin brother went there.....now thats a tough school to go to........funny that the whole school building has no windows at all and I remember once in a football match in rangashala when sidhartha Vanasthali was playing against a local school nearby the stadium....I was watching the game with my freinds from sidhartha V and suddenly a huge fight broke out in the streets outside and it was escalating to a huge gang war between the two school students in uniform....sidhattha brown uniforms VS local blue...........we all rushed out to fight because it was the other schools home town but Sidhartha had buses full of students and friends from all over to support them like myself.........we ran out and started to hurl bricks at them punching and kicking anyone wearing blue uniform at close range.......and chased them in their own tole into their school.....man it was so cool and fun to see them first charge with hundreds or more students just to be chased back in to the traffic and roads to their school........the traffic stood still and cops came pouring ...no one got arrested but sure was fun................
well I have never faced ten guys at a time so now I understand how tough it must have been for you..........in real life... ten dudes strong comming at you and you still stood your ground and fought tells that you have a heart of a fighter.........many would just run at the first signal of trouble...............might be the sensible thing to do.......but you are like me I aint backing from anyone or how many they come............once I get angry........I loose controll........I keep reminding that my anger is my worst enemy...but also my greatest alibi in a fight as my body moves by instinct and training when anger kicks in I become a total freak and that scares many..lol
well I am really busy these days with my business but I will definetaly open a school here some time in the near future. I will love to have you in the team as a partner andan instructor for real life fighting skills.....................so keep in touch Bro....and yes which state are you in ...Im in Boston

hahaha hmad dog bro you are funny... that was in 1994... i was the starter of that fight.. with VS niketan... one of the guys teased my girl( i never spoked with the girl but fought with 24 guys in her name).i started hitting the whole gang with stick.. they got scared by my act and were ready outside to beat me up with local guys from tripeshewor... i was scared because i was by myself then....the blue shirts were V.S niketan... actually SVMB students were too coward, they left me without any backup.. i had some back up from takewando players who were from around people's campus... they were great friends.. we beat them up there and the next day we went to jawalakhen and beat them up again.. few of my friends got caught by cops and had to be bailed out..i was 15 then and practicing takewando like crazy.. now i'm 29 and look at those pages and feel sorry... because i have beat people up and gotten beaten up too.. it's all worthless..
just wanted to share because after 14 you brought that particular incident...

The greatest pleasure in beating people is when you have been beaten up yourself. I always tried to avoid fights when I was a kid until one day I was beaten so bad that it changed me. From that day on, if I felt that a fight was inevitable, I always strike first and hard. Hit as many as I can and get out. ;). Smart.
