A man is walking down a road and he comes to a fork in the road. There are 2 ways to go.
One road will lead to safety and the other road will lead to death. Now there are 2 guards
waiting there. One of them is a truth teller, the other is a liar. The man cant tell which
is which. But he gets to ask one question to find the door to safety.

Which question is that?

@champak. My restroom is always dry when I get back home. Doesn't mean I haven't been in my house in a while.

1) There were no shower curtains.

2) Newspaper/Readers digest were a month or two old.

3)There was no water in the tap and it had been cut off?

Let me take a stab at wordplay (a poor one though). Noone lived in that house recently, i.e, whoever went there, didn't live, they died. He found dead bodies in the bathroom. haha

1) When I leave my house for a long vacation, I don't take the shower curtains out. Having one or not having one is hardly any indication of occupancy of the house.

2) Most of the magazines in my toilet are old. Nobody reads them.

3) This is a good one. But it could be that the water service was cut this morning; or there was a disruption in the service like in Nepal.

Keep it coming. Again, the question was:

A detective shows up to a house, location of a murder that took place that morning.

He proceeds to the bathroom and comes out after a minute. "Nobody lived in this house recently." He boldly claims.

How did he know?

(hint: Give up searching, You won't find it in google)

I found similar one:

One day, a king and queen were watching the jester act like an idiot in their beautiful, round castle. In their castle, they had a maid, a cook, a jester, and a servant. The king and queen went to bed that night. The king woke up in the morning and the queen was dead. Somebody killed her. The king called a detective to town. The detective asked the maid what she was doing while the murder took place. She said she was sweeping the corners. Then he asked the cook. He said he was sharpening his knife collection. He asked the jester and he said he was watching Jersey Shore. Lastly, he asked the servant. The servant said he was too busy preparing the sofa for the next day. Who was it?

@bshal
Not bad. The owner could have gone out yesterday and came back to get something? Doesn't mean it was unoccupied for a while. Actually, I will give you a point.

I guess this question will have too many possibilities, so let me do the reveal....

..drum roll.....

The detective turned the tap on. For few seconds he could hear gas coming out, making whistling noise. It was then followed by stream of water coming out all at once. The bathroom was thus not used in a while and he deduced that the house was not occupied. (Now don't tell me the owner preferred taking a leak outside his house. ;).

On second thoughts it was the cook. He should have been preparing breakfast for the royalty.
