Here are some of the stocks that showed up on my buy scan. We may have seen the low but it is possible that we see one more sell-off to wash the weak hands. Currently I am doing intraday trades  from the long side only. If S&P closes below 800, I'll stay on the sidelines.

If the market goes up from here these stocks should easily double. The holding period is at least 1 year (if profitable). Put these stocks on your watch list and when you see a pattern as described on the follwing link, you can buy. ALWAYS use stop losses. Stops should be somewhere between the low of the cup and low of the handle. This pattern is described in detail in William O Neil's book, "How to make money in stocks". You can probably get it from your local library or buy one...it is worth the money. If you are patient and wait for the right time you should do pretty good at the end.

If you find other stocks that have a similar pattern, please post it here.

Thanks for all the emails.

emini and others,

which site would you recommend to newbie to buy stocks?

I heard TD ameritrade is good for newbie, how much do they charge for each trade? Do they also have monthly fee or something or they charge only for buying or selling stock?

Please clarify. Thanks

Weekly Recap.

Overall pretty good week for our picks. Here are the prices that were suggested, Friday's closing prices and the % change. SPY was up 5% for the same time period. If someone had invested equal amounts in all these stocks your return will have been 17%. If you were lucky to buy the 3 best stocks, you'd have made 19% and the three worst you would have made 3.25%. Our goal is to beat the SPY every week.

The way I'd suggest to buy is to buy 3 stocks and put equal amount of money in each. Let's say if you have 3K to invest, put 1K on 3 stocks that gets to the trigger price and sell it at the end of the week. This method is for traders only.

CX - 8---------10.08       +26%

GTI-- 9.69-------10.91       12.59%

BAS 11.43 -------12.79     11.90%

MTL 6.51-------7.74      18.89%

MT 27.07 ------28.70    6.02%

AGYS 7.53------8.12       7.84%

FEED 4.15-----3.98       -4.10

emini,
good job. i like graphs. picture is worth thousands words. its good. and don't worry you will be good. and seasoned in no time.

i was writing this for some time and decided to start making it public from a month ago may be.. hence its my personal thoughts and rantings may be he he he (O:

and i am yet to get used to writing it.... once it has become public.. i need to be very careful about what i write hence the constant disruption (sorry about that). trying to separate my personal information from public.

=======
for readers who are following my blogs please be kind enough to write your suggestions or comments about the topic or what i write. although, i am trying to present my perspective but i may have (one/lop)-sided view of the world. i am stubborn hence its hard to see the other-side than i believe. hence pls feel free to disagree and write your reason for it. i would very gladly appreciate your feedback. and one last final note: please do not think that i am giving any recommendation and want people to follow trades i perform. sometimes i take positions which are very risky. please do your due diligence.

emini,
actually there is something i would like to mention and you can correct me.

date 2/20/2003 as a start of a new bull market..... i think that is incorrect.
i think by definition bull market lasts for lot more years than 4(four) years.. no??? i thought bull market extended their run for decades.....

i believe that the run-up from 2003 to 2007 was a elongated bear market rally which started from the decline in June of 2000. i think the last bull ended in 2000 and it was a decade long rally.

disclaimer: i am not a finance/business/accounting major hence i may not be too accurate in quoting terms (O:

cutenepali Jee,

I am also interested in penny stocks such as GNTA. I tried to buy it but it says it does not allow market value. It has to be limit or stop.

Also there are special rules on margin requirements and minimum equity requirement. I am very unclear on this. Please help me understand.

Thanks.

NepaliBhai.

Nepalibhai,

When you buy, u need to put limit order not market value for stocks less $1, it might depend on the broker that u use. Personally, i don't buy  penny stocks but GNTA is recommendation from one friend who works in healthcare field.  Regarding margin, look at ur broker website for margin requirement, normally it depends on the price of the stock. But for penny stock, u can't buy them on margin. If you have other stocks in ur portfolio, check the balance that says "balance  to buy non-marginal securities" , u can only use that balance to buy these stocks.

PS: Buy these type of stocks with money that u can afford to loose.

Thapap,

This could be another rally in a long-term bear market but since this rally will last for months it is necessary to take advantage of this. My philosophy is to make the best of bull-markets (no matter how short it is) and stay in cash in bear markets. Once the blue line declines by 10% from the high I'll be on the sidelines.

MIT professor Simon Johnson and economist Peter Boone draw parallel with Japan's lost decade and the current rally.

No matter what the stress test says, they insist,
"In essence, Europe and the United States both are saddled with zombie
banks (which don't really lend), zombie corporations (which don't
grow), and a decline in the relative size of the working population (as
more people try to retire). This "Japanese" scenario can persist for
many years."

Remember, when every news network starts saying we are in a new bull market, that's when you run for the woods.

I agree with Thapap and Fortunefaded...I think it will last for one more week...If we compare the chart of dow from may 2001 to may 2003 ...pretty much similar to now...but the situation is worst than then... I think it is best for everyone to be cautious on long side.....

I think FAZ @2.50 or XLF@15 is the max.......or rifin.x@816
