Dear Admin,

I fully respect your decision to scrap my previous thread because I understand your problems as an adminstrator. You have to make sure that sajha.com is not banned in Nepal and you didn't have any alternative than to delete my posting which was truly against the interest of the new government of Nepal. I posted that particular thread with the presumption that it will be deleted any time. But it was such a truth that I wanted as many sajhaites as possible to read the news before it got deleted. While there is a severe restrictions on media in Nepal, Sajha cannot go beyond the interest of the new goevernment if it has to remain not banned in Nepal. As a responsible sajhaite, I have the responsibility to save sajha from being banned. Therefore, I like to apologise for the discomforts my previous thread gave to you. I would have done the same as you did if I was the administrator.
You have said- 'I personally have to be careful because users like yourself can post anything they want under assumed nicknames.'

But I like to assure you, I don't post any rumours. What I decide to post as an informative story is verified by reliable sources. And you know it for yourself that there is every responsibility of a news gatherer to protect the identification of news sources if the sources feel that they should be unidentified.

More over, I hope you will continue to act as a responsible administrator by not supplying my personal and server informations to anybody. All of us are trying to dessiminate something to the Nepalese people amidst severe restrictions on communication and media. We have to be careful at this torrid time but at the same time we cannot blindfold ourselves. I acknowledge my limitations, hope you will acknowledge the importance of freedom. However, we shouldn't be very scared about the situation in Nepal and forget our responsibility to the nation.

Cheers.

I guess sajha is not being intimidated by situation in nepal... else it would have banned entire political discussion like Sebsonline did... but here they are trying to ensure it doesnot get itself known as propoganda or rumor spreader...

I agree with your concern about nepal and give track record of paras that could be a believable news... but even though you can not name the news provider.. you could at least give detail and believable account so that it could be verified by some of us with some one nearby the place, where it happened...

right now your account just sounds like one line idea to give birth to new rumor....

San,

You did the right thing.

Despite its seemingly open and free-for-all nature, Sajha.com, at the end of the day,
is NOT a political democracy, and it should NOT even pretend to be one.

As you know, in 2002 and 2003, I used to push for COMPLETE, no-holds-barred freedom of speech on Sajha. Extending my own logic to the extreme, I had had no trouble extending that freedom even to those anonymous posters who were critical of me in starkly personal terms (for no reason).

[At the time, I figured that being a target of FALSE attacks was a small price for me
as an individual visitor to pay for the freedom of speech EVERYONE ought to enjoy on Sajha.]

But after having read too much stuff on private property rights (even on cyberspace),
I have found faults with my previous arguments, and have since changed my mind to say that:

Sajha.com is a private property on which the host -- you -- welcome "sabai Nepali" to post stuff that may be of interest to other interested-in-Nepal visitors. People are
free to either post stuff or not post anything and simply browse.

And as someone actually paying for the BULK of the Sajha-related expenses through your own money, time and efforts, and as someone who is the person ULTIMATELY responsible for what goes on in the name of this site, you are justified in throwing
out some posters and some of their postings who cross your (quite generous) sense
of what's acceptable and what's not.

That said, do keep the Sajha spirit of holding as-much-open-as-possible discussions
alive to allow DIVERSE and CONTRADICTORY views to be posted, discussed and debated in this forum.

And so, let's do our bit make Sajha a plural place and NOT a one-sided madrasa of royalism or republicanism or any of the isms.

To make a long story short,

For an example, If people start posting materials to encourage terrorism, certainly the Admin should decide whether to allow such posting or not weighing the consequences. Definitely, admin well block them unless theadmin himself belong to terrorist group and then that's a different story.

Dear Friends,

It's been a great cyber journey so far in providing a cyber space for Nepalis all over the world to come together to share their thoughts and information on various topics of interest to the scattered Nepali communities.

Over the years, I have pushed the 'sajha' concept towards everyone so that everyone felt it belonged to them in a sense that they would want to take care of it and treat it with respect as their own sajha property. But, as diverse as the visitors who come to the site, there has been a diversity of the understanding of that concept. Like in the real world there will always be few individuals who will want to push things to the extreme and indulge in activities not always towards the interest of this freely available esource.

Because of the occurence of such isolated cases, yet on a continual basis, I have had to adapt the site to push towards the sajha concept as long as the user takes care of the site and treats it with respect as their own sajha property. As normal people we are bound to have irreconcilable differences and it's only natural to have such differences as the diversity of thoughts grow in a cyber community like sajha.

In a sajha environment, we have to learn to grow with these differences, and discuss with intelligent points of views rather than degenerating the general health of the site with defamatory, degrading, despiteful, disparaging, malicious and slanderous remarks. The same thing goes with politics. We are all bound to have different visions of political utopia, and we are all free to discuss things in a responsible and respectful way without indulging in negative retributions.

I have always stressed the fact that sajha is not politically inclined and it does not support anyone who attempts to use it as a playground for their political propagandas. I want to keep sajha as liberal as possible so that Nepalis in Nepal and all over the world have a cyber space that they can feel at home in. As part of the sajha community, you need to be well informed of the whole picture. After all is said and done, I am the one responsible for what's in the site. I am not going to put my personal freedom on the line to save a so called online democracy of anonymous users who have nothing to lose besides their ability to post in one site.

Hence I urge you all to help keep sajha a sajha community that continues to bring us all together.

Best wishes

Ashuji,

'San You did the right thing'.

Do you know what the thing was all about? Isn't it a pity that you made such a conviction without even knowing what was deleted.

If you think you have the right to impose censorship to democratic opinions in Sajha just because you contribute a tiny bit of your earnings for the site, I have nothing to say. Otherwise, why can't we put our neat political agenda in a public forum?

This particular thread was neither a rumour nor a political propoganda. This was a verified news taking into account the testimony of one of the witnesses who was present at the spot while the incident took place. Because of the sensitivity of the material, I expected that the thread will be deleted soon but ventured to put the truth before the sajhaites.

Now, we love sajha because it is a platform to express our diversed opinions. I read all kind of views and I have no regret to put my opinion which a person of contrasting interest or ideology may find distasteful. Even if some one is puting extreme views of particular nature, readers can themselves make a judgement of the contributor. There's no point of administration jumping in the fray and scraping the thread. In this particular case however, San ji had to delete it for the interest of the website because even though it was a true story the conditions were just too bad to keep it continuing. So I have no qualms and regrets.

But if Sajha admin wants no more postings supporting democratic politics, I will refrain from taking part in Sajha forums right from today. Otherwise, let things get going. Can't we enjoy the freedom of expression in Sajha at least when the whole nation is banned of it. If not, what is the difference between the autocratic regime of Nepal and sajha.com?

I love sajha. And I love freedom of expression. I also have the responsibility to protect sajha from the wicked eyes of tyrannical rulers. But the truth is always a truth no matter if some people have the power to put a veil on it.

Sajha is great, it is one of it's kind. And it must survive. If the admin has financial problems to run it, I can contribute a little bit of earning for my favourite website. But if it has made financial gains on it's own through advertisement I have other important priorities. Sajha should reveal to it's loyal supporters. Otherwise, active participation in sajha discussions is in itself the biggest contribution.

Sanji tell me honestly if my postings are defamatory, derogatory, despiteful, desparaging, malicious and slanderous. I can quit for your goodness. Otherwise, I love sajha as much as you or Ashu do.
Sajha Jindabad.

Hmmm...

Now I really want to know what was that posting/thread which was deleted by San.

Newuserrji, taking into consideration that if you again post that material which was deleted earlier, it will again be deleted. Why don't you create one geocities website and put there that material for people to read. It's up to people if they want to visit that website or not. But one thing is for sure, people are now wondering, what was that posting/thread that was actually axed by San.

Only after reading that material on the geocities' website can we comment here in sajha.

If this statement was written by San, he would surely have been called as
an arrogant capatilist machine. This is the reason capitalist always have
press secretary and lawyers who speaks on their behalf and later they
can fire the old one and hire new and ask to tell the there was fault in his
previous arguments. Thanks god its said by a poster, Ashu. Ashu
as an investment advisor/consultant "read too much stuf on private property",
I am wondering whether such statements are good if he insist public to digest.
In my opinion, such statements should not have generated from peoples
in high command or organization of Sajha.com level. In my personal opinion,
saying "its San's property, he can do whatever likes to do", has devalued
the "Sajha.com also belongs to us" feeling /sentiments. It surely had hurt,
I understand that you tried shut these misusers, but its impact extends to
others. This is how peoples express their anger when the owner of service
provider start showing some arrogance over the feeling. Its good that
San, himself has not said or showed the wording used by Ashu.

I think that all readers or posters do understand that its San's
private property, using that statement to defend him is theoretical
world with ideal peoples, but real world is more complex and is run
by feelings and sentiments. Feelings and sentiments should be
handled much more carefully. My conclusion is that Ashu has failed
to include all Sajha.com visitors in his statements. While trying to
protect a few, he has hurt others, and he would have used some
other methods to settle the matters.

Dear friends,

I have received many emails about the deleted posting. Most of you have asked to send it in your emails.
First, I do not have a copy of it. Secondly, it will be very inconvinient to send evey one by email.
Neverthe less, it was the news about RamKrishna Dhakal incident based on the accounts of an witness. It described the involvement of a royalty. This is what I can tell you for now. I hope you can figure out the incident. Otherwise, it's useless to revive the details of the incident because there is very little chance to put the alleged culprit before justice.
Thanks for showing interest on my posting.

Oki.. New user ji I am not here to pass some comments on you or tell you that San did a right thing by deleting your post.. kina ki I have no idea what was written in it...

Tara abt this being San ko property.. ani what so ever the comments were... I am shocked to see people post that kinda comments.. I mean this is a place where all of us can come and feel a sense of belongingness... We can express our opinions and also get information about various things..

I have never taken sajha as someone's property where I have to keep in mind SOMEONE might delete my posting. I mean as San says in the other posting (pade queen's posting abt her thread being deleted) there are variouis things he has to keep in mind.. if there are some postings here which are not accepted.. u wont be the one penalized.. they are going to get San ko neck.. and there are instances when San has to delete some threads due to some reason.

There is no personal rivalry or some hard feelings he has.. its just what he thinks is the best for the site... and tommorow if I see something here that would hurt sajha.com... i would not hesitate to report it to the admin.... kina ki I think it is OUR responsibility as members of sajha to look towards its benefit... and abt belongingness.. i take sajha as mine and OUR property.. i dun think I am trespassing here in any sense!!
