Kiddo, first of all, I think you are better than this.

Assumptions are essential part of solving lots of brain teasers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with assuming things. However, you have to be able to back it up. You cannot just willy-nilly say you could easily solve problems by assuming things. Try it and then give me the logic that makes sense and then I will tell you whether I think your logic is sound and therefore correct.

I don't want to keep harping here about assumptions, but I think you have to read up on it and see how tied up it is to fundamental logic and mathematics in general.

You could also use it in this sense that, if someone here says Kiddo is a guy and says if Kiddo was a girl....and gives solid reasoning to back it up. I would find it hard to believe that this kind of logical reasoning through assumptions is anything but wrong.
