some more riddles...

1) And then Bertha came to my town and killed a dozen people. But Bertha did not go to jail for that. How come?.

2) There is a party going on and there are 100 people there. There are 50 short people  and 50 tall people. But 
    each person will only shake hands with the one shorter than him. And all the 100 people are of different heights.
    So how many handshakes will there be?.
