The word indegenious is a very jaundiced and controversial word in case of Nepal. Many ethnic groups have been categorized as indegenious people no matter they migrated either from south or north few hundreds of years ago. For instances, Niwar and Tamang are listed as indegenious people who migrated from North India (Bihar, Mall republic) some 800 years back and tibet some 300-400 years back respectively. khas (Chhetri, some baaahun and dalit) people have the written historical evidences of living and ruling in western part of nepal from 10th or 11th century. Hindu epic Mahabharat has the description of khas as a warrior race and inhabitating in himalayan foothills who fought for Duryodhana under the command of King Shalya.
Not only Western Nepal, Khas people also ruled kathmadu valley way before than Niwar Malla kings. King Amshuverma and Jayasthiti Malla were khas kings who ruled during Licchavi and early Malla era. Khas-thakuri ruled nuwakot and even kathmandu even before Licchavie (King Nimish is Thakuri dyanasty king who initiated 12 years Godavari mela ) However, chhetri and others are not indegenious people no matter they have the most prominent role in establishment of Nepal. As per our social and traditional customs it’s already evident that khas and magars have co-existence since thousands of years. Magars are indegenious but not Khas. It’s nothing but prejudice.
