What should Maoists have done in the press conference? My views.

Prachanda should have first realized, after the release of the video, that he does not have luxury of time to be wrong. He had a great opportunity to prove his recorded rhetorics in the video as wrong because "Water in Bagmati has moved very far."

Unfortunately, Water moved ahead, but Prachanda remained standstill and his templates mentioned in the video matched his every move in last 16 months. His visions in video perfectly matched his actions. His supporters and opponents, both will agree on this.

Thus, the video released was so timely (video release is a right action at right time) that people came to know who is Maoists, particularly Prachanda, and how far can we trust him. Trust is the only thing we can not or should not lose, and once we lose it, it is very costly and time consuming to get it back but with some scars and doubts still hanging and chasing us. Now, Prachanda will be trusted by no other than his skin head cadres. In real world, he is now a great lier and most untrustworthy person. His statements will always raise questions on UN's attempt to handle similar case elsewhere.  UN will also got BadName "Badnaam"

People were about to give him good credit for his instant resignation on the issue, but he will also be discredited for not letting the house run smoothly and people will consider it as another trick as a part of the same visioin that Prachanda explained in his notorous video.

From now onward, people will connect Prachanda's every action to this video. In such a situation, TIME magazine in its one of the issue about a month ago asked people to follow Japanese style, "Go To Public", and apologize without hesitation, say, "I am sorry" or carry out Harakiri or commit sucide by hanging for self respect to avoid further public humiliation. Well, thats the Japanese culture, not Nepali culture. Prachanda always said, "They (other parties) did it, why not me." and appointed his just high-school pass son to Saha-Sachib Position (the position that educated Nepalis dream for life long, and work hard to reach there).

Time Magazine further adds some people in US consider that "I am sorry" is equal to confessing "I have done something illegal" instead of "I have done something unethical, and immoral, but not illegal", and scared to say so because they area also afraid to be sued and are forced to pay compensation or face punishment. In Nepal, the second part does not exist: punishing someone based on the public apology. I never heard, so.

Those who say, "I am sorry," people usually forgive them (attorney general may or may not forgive such person if there is some action: illegal). The issue even if it is raised later by the opponents, makes no sense to public because the person has already apologized, and to promote such apology in future as well, people don't chase the guys for that muted issue.

Maoists in last press conference, should have apologized instead of claiming that it will raise their height. In civilized society, such claims bring your image further down. You should have thought that people are smart enough to understand this much. Prachanda always tells that "Dimag le chakkar khancha" as if he is the only intelligent person in the world to understand his rhetorics.

Prachanda and his cronies in the last press conference, were very arrogant, and it might have worked in their constituency, but it does not work in common citizens' mind who may not be the direct beneficiary of the Maoist Propaganda.

I believe that the Maoists would have benefitted if they had simply said, "We are sorry, we were learning at that time, and situation was fluid, and we made mistakes in that training session. We have tried our best since than, and we are still learning to move in the competitive democracy, instead of running rhetoric - Mero Goruko Barhai takka." Prachanda even added that he had said such things in several occasions, and it was without any shame.

Prachanda might come back, but he won't have the same strength, courage, and personality. No body can trust him or should trust him as long as he does not endorse that his statements in the video were wrong, and he should not have said it.

Anyway, it is time to move ahead. Now, Maoists should allow others to form government if they want to protect the image that is left in their hand. If they miss the opportunity, then it will also be considered as part of the game explained in the video.
