Cops, Students Clash in Thamel THT Online Kathmandu, December 4 The students affiliated to the All Nepal National Free Students? Union (ANNFSU) today protested in front of the Amrit Science Campus (ASCOL) and Saraswati Multiple Campus against an unidentified group?s bid to attack CPN-UML headquarters in Balkhu, Kathmandu, yesterday. The demonstrators halted vehicular movement for three hours by burning tyres on the road. The police intervene the agitators and fired 10 rounds of tear gas shells to quell the mob. The police and the demonstrators also pelted stones at each other. According to Tek Raj Pachhai, Free Students? Union president of ASCOL campus, their demonstration was ?just a threat to pro-King activists, who tried to vandalise CPN-UML?s party office.? The students protested in Thamel area since 8 am. Thakur Gaire, general-secretary of the ANNFSU, said if the government did not release all the detainees, the students would announce further protest programmes. ANNFSU said it did not organise protest programmes in front of other campuses considering the ongoing Master?s level examination. Meanwhile, a report from Pokhara said UML?s zonal committee took out a rally from Prathvi Chowk to protest yesterday?s incident at the UML?s central office. The rally later converged into a corner meeting, which was addressed by all the district level leaders.
