Gyanendra, as the brother of a King did not have direct role to play in the politics of the country. So he is better known for his roles played behind the scenes to safeguard the interest of the Royal Palace. He was still young when King Mahendra sacked the elected government of BP Koirala in 2017 BS. But from his early teen he witnessed the creation of partyless panchayat system and was grown up enough to make his own idea about the developments of political activities when Panchayt took it's roots in a wider level in the whole country in the years after 2021 BS. The Nepalese society was not like today some 40 years ago. Very little portion of the country was literate. Developement was at it's primitive stage(still not much better however). People were not politically conscious(still far away from reality).MOdernisation of society, media and communication , almost everything was quite different then what it is now. Politics was by far centred in the capital, and in the hand of very limited number of elites who influenced a big chunk of society. And there was a big god-like respect to the King. People respected King and believed on him. Therefore Panchayat at the beginning raised hope to the public and strengthen. Movements like Gau Farka, Laws and acts like Muluki Ain, building up of local bodies and infrastructe like gau panchayat and nagar panchayat, starting of construction of Siddartha and Mahendra highways etc gave a fresh hope to the people and Panchayat system got foothold in some ways. Gyanendra witnessed all these events as a young prince and this must have made a positive impact in the youth mind of him
