I have a budget of around $300. I am looking for some slim camera like sony cybershot
but long battery life (sony battery sucks). Any suggestion??

If you are looking for a decent slim camera, I would recommed Canon PowerShot SD940 IS ... not so expensive, easy to use, great picture + video, good battery life and much more.

Now that most, if not all, smart phones come with excellent point-and-shoot cameras, is it necessary to have a separate "just" camera? It would be another thing to carry.
Just my opinion.
