Hi everybody,

I recently purchased a car from a person in North Carolina. I now need to register it in my name and get a new number plate. But the problem is, I have read that you need to have NC driver's license to register the car in NC state, but I have out of state license.
I really need it to get registered or else i will have problem going to my work.
I could have changed my license to NC state license, but , i also have read that you need the original license, not the temporary license to register the car, and it takes more than 15 days to get that.
For the students in NC, i think it is different, and I am not a student here..
Has anyone been in this situation before or knows something about this, then that would be really helpful...

Thanks..

Yes you have to have NC driver's license to register your vehicle in NC. For me it took more than 20 days to get the license. And yes they won't accept your temporary license. I was also worried in the beginning but the guy at NC DMV told that I was fine. After I got my plastic card, I registered my vehicle and got the plate. Everything was fine.  I don't know whether I answered your question.

Thanks sparty for your response.

Well, I don't have the number plate in my car as the previous owner took it... and if it takes like 20 days for me to get the NC license, I cannot register my car till then and will not get the number plate till that date. So basically, I cannot drive my car till 20 days as it is not registered and doesnot have number plate, though I have the title... This is what i am concerned about.
I need to drive my car to go to work every day... and driving without license plate, well, it is easy to get pulled over..
So i was wondering if the DMV gives a temporary plate or something like that..

Thanks..

Tic-tac-toe, in that case you can get a temporary registration. I think it will be best if you visit the DMV.
