You can unlock a phone set (not a SIM card). Mobile network operators normally have fed unique codes to the handsets they sell to you so that you can not use it with the SIM cardsof any other network. If you can use SIM cards of other networks in your handsets, it means the set is unlocked and can be most probably used in Nepal too. If not, you have to UNLOCK it using some unique codes . For many Nokia and Siemns sets , the codes can be calculated using free softwares on the internet......just google it. But 3G sets are hard to unlock and even if unlocked , u may still have some problem if u try to use it in Nepal as my experience tells me. Good luck and do not hesitate to ask for suggestions if still confused

Sunita Ji, You can definitely use your tri-band GSM phone in Nepal. If you bought this phone through t-mobile, cingular, att wireless. verizon or other provider your phone is locked with their codes. You can take your phone to this cell phone place in New Road...near pipal ko bot...in front of a photo shop....go up the stairs and they wl unlock any phone in the world...they will charge 1500 - 2000 rupees. Also if you want to be a brave soul and do things yourself...you need to buy a dongle...or cable to connect your cell phone to a computer port and then flash the cell phone memory using software like "Prodigy" ... hacked versions if you can find out there in the Internet. Have fun.

ke ho sunita ji tapai pani khattri ma pani khatri. that means tapai pani bahun bata down bhara chettri bhako. Well u certainly can use the triple band. There is no roaming serivce in nepal though. I think u can buy kind of pre paid sim card now. It is like buying a tempory connection at the cost of 15 thousand but tell u what we dont need mobile. If u are going for business other wise no need. if u want to show off then nothing to say

Sunita, Just call the your service provider(T-mobile,AT&T etc) and tell them that you need to unlock the phone since you are taking it out of the country and they will do it for you. You are going to need to provide them with a number that is on your phone(most of them are inside the phone directly above where you put your SIM card. I forgot what its called. My friend unlock his cell like that and sent it to Nepal Dariwal
