Here is wisden (Bible of cricket) top 100 Innings ever before 2000

Top hundred innings of all times. Lara has 3 in top 15 (Not even sir don bradman) and sachin has none in top 100. This was before 2001 and before lara even played an innings like 196 against south africa in one of the most difficult pitch the world have ever seen. It was before lara made 400 *. Those innings are sure to feature somewhere in top 20.

However, sachin's best innings are 155* against australia in chennai 1998 and 136 against pakistan in 1999 didnt get place in the top 100.

Talk about number of centuries of sachin. But kindly please talk about quality of the innings too.

Nepalese always talk bad about India and never forget to kiss their ass. The first symptom of Nepali.

Suike. This list was from 2001. Ponting has played lots of innings after 2001. At least 3 double hundreds during this time which i think will get in the list.

I am not opposing anybody's opinion as long as it is reasonable.   As i have said  my rating of this generation will be
1. Lara
2. Ponting
3. Sachin

If some sachin fan  thinks sachin  is best than i don't mind.  But what i  cant comprehend statement like  " Sachin is way better than Lara "..........................or             "          Ponting is a kid infront of Sachin"  ...............

Which i think is a completely ludicrous comment  and lack of cricketing understanding.   Because as i know nobody is way better than other.

One player can never win a match barring a very very few exceptions........VVS Laxman made 281 and that would not have been rated that high had Harbhajan not taken all those wickets after Tea in the last day!!!

For me I have never had a slightest doubt that Lara is a Legend and Tendulkar is a legend of the same sort if not more than LARA.

Ponting does score runs, he may seem to be winning matches for his countries!! But the matter of fact is He plays in a winning team rather than win matches for his teams!! Maan any mediocre batsman can look great when u have some exceptionally talented players and some legends like Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden........ so on and so forth!!! N thats why Ponting doesnt rate that high in my ranking as Lara or Tendulkar!!

People here are judging Sachin on the recent performances. I agree with them that Sachin has not been the same force, the same flamboyance may not be there but that does not take away from the fact that he came to International scene at such a tender age, scored runs in Pakistan against probably against the best fast bowling attack then! He came to tour Australia at the age of 19 and then scored centuries in Sydney and of all the places in PERTH!!! He has been scoring big runs against all the nations since then!!The consistency has always been there. And the matter of fact is he always has been under pressure to perform...bcoz of the expectancy of runs from all those Sachin fans!! He more often than not has answered to all his supporters day in and day out! Its almost 20 yrs hez come in the international Arena and the expectation level has never altered!! N ya he cannot win as much matches as Ponting because he doesnot have the same sort of teams as Punter does!!

Lara on the other hand is the most destructive player against the spinner! He is a treat to watch, probably the best batsman to watch when in free flow!! But he has not been the most consistent batsmen for my liking!! Lara`s 375 was excellent but the 400 was only for a record!! U need class to score 400 and Lara oozes class with every shot he plays but for that record of 400 Windies had to settle for a draw!! Lara is unorthodox thats why hes such a fun to watch! But he is not the one a youngster would like to emulate!

Sometimes the recent run of form seems to overshadow the legacy one leaves behind or what great his contributions has been through out his career!! Tendulkar is one and Gilchrist certainly the other!! Gilchrist deserves far big a applaude than what he is getting now!!

So for me, the ranking wud go:

1. Sachin

2. Lara

.

.

.

.

.

3.Ponting (quite some distant third)

Sachin's full name is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. I didn't know about this when Sachin appeared in Indian Team.

He brought new dimension in Indian Cricket history and that's the truth.

They cannnot play that many games I agree, because consistently is the factor !!!!

Sachin started playing at a tender age, 20 years and on still playing consistently with a pressure of more than one billion fans on his sheer head,  a cricket crazy nation where cricket is religion and this very man is the GOD of this game in his country.

And in a country if you do not perform well the  Media is so strong  that it makes the common man come out on the street burning effigies, throwing  stones at his  house(s) &  you start getting death sentences on the phone.

And this is indeed amazing  about Tendulkar that he is consistent still. Still at the age of 35, in which that he should have been in the commentry box .

It is indeed very hard to be playing and playing good for so long

Forget about scores, quality & quantity we are still no body in the game  to judge all those, let that too be decided by the Sultans of  the game & that  too without prejudices & witout premeditated  views.

BUT FOR HIS CONSISTENCY HATSS OFF TO MR. SACHIN RAMESH TENDULKAR!!!!!!!!!

YOU ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST CRICKETER THE GAME HAS EVER PRODUCED

Mr Rastafurrian,

you dont make no sense to me man. Like I said, naam ni khatepate, kura ni khatepate. haanun na ta australia ko 3 jana le 100, 3 jana le kina, 11 jana le nai haanun na 200 each, we're not here to talk about that bro ! I hope you knew that, and were just beings a douchebag in your last comment.

And

Mr Lara has 3 Innings in Wisden top 15,

I see Azhar Mahmood in number 8, Azhar - Fawking - Mahmood for crying out loud !! And I saw that innings too. Maybe that list meets the criteria of winning the games or saving them, but to me how Sachin makes millions AROUND THE WORLD happy by scoring runs is important.

>> If some sachin fan  thinks sachin  is best than i don't mind.  But what i  cant comprehend statement like  " Sachin is way better than Lara "..........................or             "          Ponting is a kid infront of Sachin"  ............... <<

Ummm ... It looks to me that you do have a problem with Sachin's fans thinking Sachin is the best, other wise why would your loser ass even be in this thread, innit ?

Another Ummmm, cause you know why, you cannot comprehend statements such as "Sachin is way better than Lara" but you yourself go ahead and write, "Sachin isnt fit enough to tie the boot of brain lara." ? What the F dude ? lol ...

>> Matthew hayden gets 3rd century int the three consecutive test .  He didn't play in perth and Austrlaia lost.  I am sure for a tendulkar fan these sorts of records by non tendulkar goes unnoticed. <<

Now by that statement you are trying to prove your knowledge and admiration of the game and belittling others in this thread. Shame on you, for someone who understands cricket and knows what the hell u r talking about, you sure do not have class that your number 1 batsman had !

I have not come to this thread in a couple of days and I see you have that little cricinfo screen shot paste. dont look at the top part but the bottom, if the same chaps can vote andrew flintoff the most dangerous bowler than muralitharan then how valid was that survey ? think about it.

Again this is not personal, but you absolutely dont make any sense to me bro !

Sachin fan always brings the consistency factor.  Just  go and see his record in last  four five years and you will see his consistency.  He failed completely in a year and his one or two innings have saved his average. Like in oneyear his 248* against bangladesh saved his blushes but he failed whole year.

What about temperament, playing under pressure, lonely battles.  Lara will easily outclass sachin in that regard. Neither have sachin played  innings like 153* in bridgetown to win by one wicket  or 213 in jamaica after being five down for almost nothing to win the match for his team  against australia.  Neither have sachin played innings like battling 123 run in 300 balls against india to save the test match on the final day  with only one wicket remaining.

Grateness are acheived by not only making scores but who one scores also determines his brilliance.  Sachin is yet to dominate like lara. Lara dictates session by session.   One one hand lara has scored big on the other hand he has scored centuries in 82 balls agains Australia and 77 balls against pakistan.  In one of the most difficult wicket world have ever seen in jamaica  Lara  made 199 on a single days play. Sachin is yet to score 28 runs in an over, or 26 runs in an over against spinners.

You always talk about hundreds. What about 150, double hundreds, triple hundred and quadruple hundreds. Lara  has made 20 scores of over 150  even more than bradman with  nine double hundreds . Lara is the only batsman to show unparalleled consistency for a big scores after bradman.

Like I said before, No Quiero is solely focused on the scores of 150 plus and other useless and totally meaningless highest scores. What about Tendulkar's hundreds in the ODI's ni? Akram has scored a double hundred while Mark Waugh's best score is only 153, so Akram is better than Waugh? Atapattu has more double hundreds than Tendulkar, so he's better than Tendulkar? Waiyaat kura garcha yaar.

Ok. Apart from the 400 being the highest score and Lara having scored more runs, Lara's record is clearly overshadowed by Tendulkar's.
Lara's Average in Tests: 52.88 Tendulkar's Average 55.31
Lara's Hundreds/Fifties 34/48 ( in 232 innings ) Tendulkar's record 38/49 ( in 235 innings )
Lara's Odi Average : 40.48 , Tendulkar's Average : 44.33
Lara's hundred / fifties 19 / 63 ( 289 innings ) , Tendulkar's hundred / Fifties 41 / 87 ( 397 innings )

Ok So Tendulkar scored some 22 extra hundreds and 24 fifties by playing 108 extra innings?! In other words, you think that Lara could've scored 22 hundreds and 24 fifties if he could play 108 innings? Don't you forget, it took the little maestro 65 plus matches to get his ton and he has also batted as a middle order batsman!!!

Honestly, Even Ganguly and Ponting are better than Lara in ODI's! Aravinda De Silva, Mark Waugh and Saeed Anwar are the only other respectable ones who'd come closer to match Tendulkar in terms of ODI dominance. So No_Quiero, just because Lara has more 150 plus scores in Tests ( YET LESS HUNDREDS AND AVERAGE MIND YOU ), he's better than Tendulkar? HA!

WAIT , I forgot to mention Tendulkar's 90-99 scores over the past 5-6 years.. What about Tendulkar's phenomenal tally of 523 ( YES 523 runs, Jayasurya only received the MOTSeries award coz Sri Lanka won it in 1996 , he only scored 200 odd runs ) in the WC of 1996 and 600 plus runs in 2003 World Cup? What about Tendulkar being the leading batsman in terms of runs scored and hundreds scored? What about his records for the most MOTM Awards?!

No_Queiro, FFS, take your 150 plus scores in your ass.....and shamefully leave the debate?! And stop fooling us by providing some inadequate and ridiculous analogies such as Lara's test hundreds that were rated amongst the best by Wisden. If you have some cricketing knowledge, you'd know Tendular's 155 in Chennai that GOT IGNORED BY THE FOOLS FROM WISDEN! And Like Freak_Alien pointed out, Azhar Mahmood's innings is ranked 8th , so Tendulkar is nowhere as good as him coz his innings didn't fall under 100 of the best test hundreds?! Doh!

Quamire. You cant expect lara to score so many tons when he bats so lower down the order. But he still managed to maintain the average. And tell me how many century have sachin scored batting at number 4, 5 , 6 in one day matches.

Secondly , Wisden didnt forget 155* at chennai because it came under a weak attack . Australia played with weakest attack probably in their history.  Playing only with one world class bowler in shane warne playing with an injured shoulders. Who were other blowers. NO there wasnt mcgrath, nor gillespie nor fleming.  Here are the list of the bowlers Michael kasprowicz, paul raiffel, Gavin robertson ,  Greg blewett, steve wauch. Wow want a formidable bowling line up.

Azhar mahmood played a great innings and rightly deserves to be in top100. His partnership of 106 for the last two wicket where the contribution of other two batsman were only 6  and 0. It was one of the fastest pitch in durban. Pakistan eventually won by only 29 runs. Click here and you will know the importance of that innnings. Test # 1403

Still show me a test innings when sachin played a lone hand in the teams victory (Like lara 153 or 213 against australia )or when he batted whole day to save a test match like lara 123 against india.

All sachin fan can show is a stat. Take not out away from sachin and you will see lara scoring more runs than sachin in a test matches. Thats why lara still have more runs than sachin playing in lesser test matches. A not out may be good to indivicual players but if he scores less runs than it hardly makes a difference.  Infact sachin is so obssessed in getting not outs that even I saw a number 11 batsma zaheer khan outscoring him in a partnership against bangladesh when he made 248*.

Lara is an entertainer. Thats what lara said at his retirement. " did i entertain you?" and the answer was a resounding yes. Lara equalled record of matthew hayden of 380 with a six. Thats how lara is made. Talk about nerves. He wasnt hitting six for his hundred or two hundred rather he was chasing a world record.

And sachin. infact sachin played with such a snails pace in a test match against pakistan when he reached 190 that captain dravid was forced to declare when he made 194 because he tought sachin will take probably 20 more over to get to that remaining 6 runs.

Sachin is innovative. Lara relies on sheer power and natural talent.

Sachin is more consistent, and Lara is very inconsistent. Lara plays a couple of great innings every three years, and rest of the times, he is unbelieveably worse. Sachin doesnt score great hundreds nor doesn't win thilling matches. But he keeps scoring 30, 40 or a 100 which contributes to the team, but is insufficent to win  single- handedly. With Lara's greatness, you can win an incredible game once in 3 years, but I would choose a player in my team who can score a few runs every match.

In ODIs, there is absolutely no comparison between Sachin and Lara. Sachin wins in all facets.

SACHIN vs LARA:

LARA:
"Sachin is a genius. I'm a mere mortal. I would like to be a lot more consistent. I would like to be a (Sachin) Tendulkar, or someone like that, someone who could go out in the middle and keep scoring; if he doesn't get a hundred, he gets at least 30 or 40, and scores like that. You know, it would be great to be that sort of individual."

STEVE WAUGH:

"You take Don Bradman away and he (Sachin) is next up, I reckon."

PONTING:
"I've always thought he's the best batsman I've seen or played against. Looking at the way he's played of late I think he's getting somewhere back to his best again. As we've seen in the past, he's actually won games against us single-handedly on occasions."

GLEN MACGRATH:
"For me, it's Tendulkar. Both are class acts but I am saying this because I have had more success against Lara than I have against Tendulkar. I think I have a fair idea of what Lara likes and doesn't like and I feel I can make his life at the crease very uncomfortable. He is vulnerable outside the off-stump early on and is not as tight as Tendulkar in defense. I would go for Tendulkar as the best in the world."

JASSON GILLESPIE:
"In my opinion it's Tendulkar who is ahead of the two. Mentally stronger than Lara, he has a better technique as well. Tendulkar doesn't get worked up like Lara when the opposition has a few words to say to him. Lara on his day can be destructive, but you have to look at consistency and I think Tendulkar is definitely more consistent than Lara."

SAQLAIN MUSTAQ:
"Both have their good qualities but I feel Tendulkar doesn't give as many chances as Lara does. Lara, once he settles down, can be a better player to watch because of the left-hander's grace and also because he plays more shots. He has played more match-winning innings compared to Tendulkar because he finished off the job once he is in. But Sachin is more compact and puts a heavy price on his wicket. It is more difficult to dislodge Tendulkar compared to Lara."

ANDY FLOWER:
"There's Sachin on one hand, and then there are the rest of us."

WASIM AKRAM:
"I have bowled to both Tendulkar and Lara and I have found Lara more attacking. Tendulkar has a tighter technique, no doubt, but Lara can single-handedly win the game for his team. I am not saying Tendulkar cannot do it but Lara has maybe done it more often than him. If you are asking me who the best batsman I have bowled to is, then it's not Tendulkar and not Lara as well. It's Martin Crowe... he was an amazing batsman. Regarding Tendulkar and Lara, I would love to have both in my team! Who wouldn't?"

WAQAR YOUNIS:
"Unfortunately, I have not bowled enough to Tendulkar in Test matches but there is no doubt about his class. I have bowled against Lara and I have had some success against him. I think over the years I would say I have been fifty-fifty against both Tendulkar and Lara. I have got them a few times and they have got runs against me as well. I can never forget a 16-year-old Tendulkar batting on after being struck on the nose by a fast bouncer from me. I think Tendulkar is mentally tougher than Lara."

MUTHAIH MURALITHARAN: "I have played a lot of cricket against Tendulkar compared to what I have played against Lara. While both are difficult to bowl to, I think Lara plays me better than Tendulkar. That Lara is a left-hander is an advantage to him, but the great thing about him is he launches into the attack straightaway. He uses his feet well against me while Tendulkar relies more on the sweep, I feel. I find Lara tougher."

Howardrock . The sudden pop out of this thread     Sachin What a batsman itself is a show of his incosistency. Over the years his friend didnt have much to cheer about.  As soon as he scores their fan comes out of the hole. And How can you say lara scroes one big innings in  two or three years.  Please go and watch sachins record in last five year. particualry between 2002 -2006.  His scores like 241*, 248*(again bagla), 194* came almost once in about a year and he struggled to score even fifty in rest of the year.

Anyway listen to the round table talk by an expert  of , Sanjay Manjrekar asks John Wright, Tony Greig, Ian Chappell and Ravi Shastri to pick their greatest.  Remember in this panel there are 2 indian and one former indian coach.

no_quiero,
Sachin has been in International Cricket since 1989, and since 2002, he has been in and out of the game due to injuries and he's been struggling. He definitely has lost the spark, but when you judge Sachin you have to consider his entire period.

To me, Sachin and Lara are two players that can be taken in same breath. They both have their positives and negatives, their own signatures and styles, but they belong to the same zone. My personal preference is Sachin, but I do respect Lara as mush as Sachin.

Regarding Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Manjrekar, I don't pay an attention to them at all. The day Sachin scores some runs, they think Sachin is greater. And the day Lara scores some runs, they think Lara is greater. They just speak whatever fanatics like to hear on that particular day.

I am not measuring Sachin by the number of centuries, nor Lara by the no of double and triple centuries.

I dont like desi team at all. My favourite has always been S Afrifa. Kallis is my all time best. But Sachin and Lara are the ultimate. Some prefer Sachin and some prefer Lara. It depends on what style you prefer. For me I prefer Sachin. Thats all. I would never turn the TV off when Sachin is playing.

Like someone pointed out, 9 out of 10 growing cricketers want to be like Sachin, bat like him!

Critcising India's dominant policies towards Nepal is different from cricket.

I know we people do not want to give credit to India or Indians on certain deserving issues as we fail to understand that these are unpolitical issues .

Supporting Sachin is in fact like supporting any great player on earth. We must agree that if this thread had been started to praise anybody else other than the Indian player, there would not have been so many crtitics writing against it. Even if they did not like the player than they would simply ignore replying or would say I like so & so.

Since it was a issue related to our Mitra Rashtra's guy so the critics went on and on to dig his grave searching all websites for it.

When will we understand that we  draw a parallel line somewhere for nationality /Nepalism and other things. Discussing/liking someone in terms of his ability to do something is totally different from we being a NEPALI.

Apoligies if I have written something wrong . This just came to my mind after going thru so many of our threads and blogs in the world wide web & I just shared with you all.

JAI NEPAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
