Madhesi parties are demanding Nepal Army recruit 10,000 madeshis in a group.

Is this for real? Are madhesis really ready to get deployed in war zones places like Afganisthan and Iraq and fight the muslims there..???

I personally think NA should deploy Madhesis to the army immediately and deploy them to some war torn country like Congo or Haiti and see how they perform there.

The other issue that i support is that we need to force Britishers and Indians to recruit Madhesis in grouph as well. Why are Indians discriminating the Madeshis....Do Indians think Madhesis are cowards " darcheruwas"??? Is that why Indians want to hire just the Hill people?????

I am interested in hearing from our Madhesi friends on the board on what they think about the demad.

PS: Please do not make this a racial thread.

Did anybody bar madhesis from joining army? Why did not they join army? It's not because they were refrained from joining army but because they did not want to spare their lives. You can see scads of madheisis in Nepal police because police is fecund profession to make illegal money in Nepal. gun should be carried only by those who can handle it. Maoist insurgency has already proved the aftermath of giviing gun to everyone.

Sidster I am surprised to see your juvenile comment on recruiting 10000 madheisis in the prestigious and only upright instutuion of Nepal. Nobody is barring any madhesi to join army if he/she wants to serve nation, but for the sake of political mathematics and in a mass recruitment it is a big NO. Madheis have already proved their valor and honesty so no need of your experimentation. Be it Indian sepoy mutiny, kargil war, or anglo-nepal war they have shown how brave and honest they are. Why even in India, their sanctum, they are way less preffered than Jats, Punjabis, rajpoots and Gorkha????  So, army should not be the playground of bastrad politicians to practise their filthy POLY-TICS who want to make NA like Nepal Police.

 to Prabhat 41,
Yes, we shouldn't discriminate anybody by their caste or ehnicity. But, Nepal Gov., I think, doesn't restrict Madhise people or [Disallowed String for - castist references disallowed] people to get in Nepal Army. Only they need to pass their entrance exam as their norms and rules (Physical and Mental) which couldn't be lowered for any specific casts or groups.

Nalapani,

It was not my comment, i was reciting one of the Madhesi leaders comment.

I am more interested in hearing from a madhesi sajha poster on this thread. I would like to hear their perspective on why India thinks Nepali Madhesis are cowards and why no madhesi leader ever voices a word about it. Before bargaining for a group positions in NA they should talk to their dear neighbour and ask them why they prefer hill people from Nepal than Madhesis?

Should not the madhesi leaders ask India to recruit more madhesi as well?

To start with, i would like to see NA hire about 100 qualified madhesis and deploy them to afganisthan immidiately.

nalapani,

yes, people in nepal who didn't speak nepali as primary language were barred from entering into nepal army.  I've seen many qualified people not allowed to join army because their last name was not typical nepali last name.  I even know one person who hailed from a big jamindaar family.  As a jamindaar, he had good familial relations with Thakuri and most of the thakuris were in army.  Even then, he was not recruited.  Eventually, he didn't take up any job in his life since his passion was not fulfilled.  Now that his son wanted to join police as Inspector, he was asked to pay 20 lakh as a "donation".

Frankly. whole tarai belongs to those people whose primary language was not Nepali.  It was not until Judda Sumsher decided to snatch the land of those powerful jamindaar and asked the himali/pahadi people to migrate to terai, a trend which King Madhendra upheld.  Had these two people acted otherwise, there would not be any trace of Nepali speaking people in Tarai.

So, yes, there has been a big discrimination in Nepal.  And that's the reason these non nepali speaking people are pissed.

FYI:  Gurkha doesn't mean Nepali speaking people. As per the army recruitment guidelines, Gurkha is defined by anyone who nose is "thappace", eyes "wider", short height, uneducated, willing to suck up with lowest ranks in army and swallow bullets.

Nagarikreport,

You seem sympathetic to the issue i have raised so let me ask you this

Why do you think India does not want to recruit any Madhesis in their army? Does India think that Madhesis are cowards/darcheruas and not good enough to fight. What is your opionion on Indian discrimination towards Madhesi Nepalese? Why aren't any Madhesi leaders voicing anything regarding this?

Isin't India indirectly calling madhesi Nepali cowards and disloyal by not recruiting them? Are they confirming hill people are more braver and couragious than madhesis????

Even in India, every 3rd household in Garhwal (hill people) is in army. Very less people from bihar, UP and bengal join army. why?? Is there alos some sort of discrimination ? If tharus and Dhimals could join NA why madhesis not? It's not because of discrimination, it's because they dont want to.

Simple answer is this:

Gurkha doesn't mean Nepali speaking people. As per the army recruitment guidelines, Gurkha is defined by anyone who nose is "thappace", eyes "wider", short height, uneducated, willing to suck up with lowest ranks in army and swallow bullets.

If your last name is Sharma (or any Brahman name) in Nepal, most likely you will not be recruited.  Brahmans don't have thappche nose.  Like I said, you are trying to make Madhes a race but the world knows Hinduism has a Varna system and everyone falls under that.  You are free to make up any imaginery races you want.

In India, you will have to appear in competitve exams to become an officer (Remember OFFICER) in the army/airforce/navy.  Mostly, educated class Brahman/Chettri is able to ace the exams.  The rest of the barrack is full with dumb idiots who drop out from grade 8.

Heroes of Kargil war.

All freaking Nepali leaders grew up in Benaras, UP  wearing Dhoti Kurta everyday.

and the list goes on and on....

After an extensive research, you will find India is pretty much UP, Bihar, Bengal and Punjab.  These states brought indepenence in India.  Most freedom fighters were from these states. And now, here you are trying to discredit history without your "opinion"?  What's your qualification?  Community College?

Which dumb said Indian Army doesn't prefer Benagli?  Do you know the history of Indian Army?  Indian Army was formed by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose (a Bengali freedom fighter) in Germany with the help of Hitlar.

LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS DANGEROUS THING.
Do you know the recruitment history of Gurkha in british army (though I don't feel proud of being a british gurkha) ? How come gurkha's war cry is JAY MAHAKALI, AYO GORKHALI if they were not nepali speaking people??

Gurkha is a transliteration of Gorkha. Khas (chhetri, fake chhetri in your opinion) and Thakuri then Magars were the first to be recruited in BA. They established companies called Garhwal regiment and Sirmoor batallion to recruit hill people of nepal. Later they formed independent GR base on ethnicity. FYI 9th GR is a pure Chhetri and Thakuri regiment, a soldier of which, Rifleman Sher Bahadur Thapa Chhetri, bagged a glorious VC in San Marino during WW II.

FYI, The leading operatioal commander in Kargil war was Col. Lalit Rai (GR). Rajesh singh Adhikari is a pahadey khas resididng in garhwal. It's GR who should be credited highest  for the victory.

All those dyansties you mentioned root back to Persian aryan (most probably Kambojas), not modern day biharis and upeans. Yadavs and biharis resemble Hunas (black hunas). Just google it dear.

In fact, NR FYI, biharis and UPeans did not fall under 'martial class' in british's classification of people in indian sub continet. This is why still today they are not given preferrene in indian army also.

Why did not they join Na?
1. They were not there in so called madhes during the unification program
2. During anglo-Nepal war, madhesis people worked as pathfinder for East Inida company against Gorkhali (Colonel Ujir sing Thapa killed many such traitor madhises in Butwal and adjoining areas). So they were not trusted as an honest race.
3. During Rana regime, around 1857 AD, one NA equaled 15 indian sepoy so they were not thought of being a warrior class. [Tatya Tope, Jhanis ki Rani, Last Mughal king Bahdur shah Zaffar and Rani of Tulsipur(Chauhan) gathered some 150 K indian sepoys working for British in India. They became rebellion to East India company. Only Punjabis stood for EIC. Because of deficiency of army personnel to solve this Gadhar EIC requested PM & CAS Sir Jung Bahadur Rana for Help. Jung Bahadur Rana gathered a froce of 10000 NA from 1st Rifle, debidatta, Sabuj, Kalibahadur, etc. and deployed under his own command in Lucknow. NA fought and destroyed outnumber of indian rebels ]
3. After advent of democracy in 2007 BS, (R)NA was opened to everyone apart from it's initial members like Chhetri (Khas), Magar, Gurung and Thakuri. By this time Tamangs got opportunity to join NA and you can see plenty of Tamangs in NA today. So, if Tamng could join army, why madises not? Ask madhise people, they tell you the answer. Being a technical person matters more in their community [ and technical boy = higher drowry]. Probably, the army is not their kind of profession thats why they distant themselves from NA.

I have heard NA (Gen C.M S. Gurung) has made a deal with USA to deploy NA in Iraq and Afaganistan under NATO forces. As Sidster said, few hunderds of madhisis should be deplyoed there to test their aptness for being an army. I am damn sure, no such people will make a hue and cry to join NA afterwards.

OK, I admit indians are smarter than us. But what is your original post? Is recruiting 10 K as a group in NA is logical? SIPAHI JO PAYO TEHI HUNA SAKTAINA BROTHER...................

Heroes, regardless of their backfround, deserve appreciation.  I like that army who salutes the bravery of their enemy as well.

GR has been given due credit. No one denies that fact.  If you trace back, then all Thakuris of Nepal are from India as well.  It depends how back do you want to go.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Bihar  (Although I don't suppor modern Bihar, I believe in giving good people their due credit that they deserve)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Uttar_Pradesh  (FYI, UP is the Mecca of Politics and Economy despite its continued division)

So, if Singh Adhikary was born and brought was in UP, he is stil not from UP?  Strange?  If a Bihari Jha was born and brought up in Nepal, is he a Brahman, a Bihari, a Madhesi or a Nepali?

So, you are taking pride for being recruited in British Gorkha Regiment (or any regiment)?  Do you know what the Sugauli Treaty spelled?    It allowed the establishment of a British representative in Kathmandu, and allowed Britain to recruit Gurkhas for military service (obviously like the indentured workers/slaves).  With this, Nepal also lost the right to deploy any American or European employee in its service. There were not enough people in British army to die.  British found a cheap way to use these brainless soldiers.  And here you are taking pride? Joke!

I would love to be the commanding officer and recruit Gorkha soldiers so that they can die while protecting me?  Isn't it fun?
