Okay here is the deal. I am tooo tired of seeing photos and getting requests to joing groups claiming that buddha was born in nepal/that mt. everest is in nepal etc etc. So I started the following page for people who think alike.

Why should we care if Siddartha Gautam was born in nepal or bahamas? Why does it matter? Moreover, when he was born there was no Nepal or India. I think we need to let go of this inferiority complex now. I mean, have you seen/herad people of palestine go head over heels to claim that Jesus was born there??

Also, if we really care that much about Buddha, shouldn't we follow his teachings? Didn't he tell his followers to let go of their egos??

anyways here is a facebook page dedicated to not hanging on to buddha/mt everest/ Gurkha soldiers for our identities. (last but not the least, why would anyone be proud of the Gurkha/Gorkha soldiers?? all they did was invade and kill other people.)

Peace

Agreed my friend. :) It is best to let go of many things but you sound annoyed. No use letting go and still feeling annoyed. You should let go and be happy.

If Buddha were alive today, he would probably have migrated to Japan or come to the USA on an R1 Visa if he did not win the DV lottery. If Mount Everest could choose, he/she would want to relocate to Switzerland.  :)

I am not annoyed (maybe a little bit), more like tired of seeing many of my friends making such a big deal out of it. I just wanted to see if anyone thought like me?

What have we nepalese done so that the world knows about Nepal.   Its pity that we still have to resort to Mount Everest and Buddha when somebody does not know about Nepal.

Until  Nepal has some globally recognized figure,  or if nepal gets developed or if Nepal makes name all over with sports......we have to live with everest and buddha and fight in the name of it.

I agree with u. I don't give a damn about Buddha or Shiva. There are many mountains better than Himalayas in Switzerland n USA. So who cares about Mount Everest. Has anyone heard Americans bragging about Yellow Stone National Park? Nah but its so beautiful n amazing. Alaska alone is so gorgeous compare to Nepal. Nepali ignorant hicks think they come from one of the most beautiful country in the world when Nepal has litters everywhere n its a slum country. I laugh when Nepalese put red tikas n celebrate Dashain in USA.

गोरिकोपोइ ले गोरी संग बिहे गरेपश्चात, गोरी को आची पनि खान थाल्या जस्तो छ! Urging your compatriots to assimilate is one thing, condoning them for practicing their culture is totally idiotic.

Pshrestha: u r rite sandai. Nobody gives a damn about Buddhism. All people wanna do is defend their ego against Indian.
Somebody is right about  suggesting Buddha would move to USA or Europe if he is with us today. Buddha would renounce  nepali citizenship thanks to leaders. Shame on us. everyone in Nepal use Buddha and Buddhism only to beg money and  foreign aid.
Plain Simple. Is there anything else left to sell in Lumbini?

 Gorikopoi Ji,

I am glad that you agree with me, but I am going to have to disagree with you on whatever you have said. The essence of my post was not about rediculing Nepali people or Nepal. Both Nepal and USA ,or any other country for that matter, are beautiful in their own ways, and that equally rich cultures. Making fun of any culture or any people, isn't my thing.

What I wanted to say was that we don't need to cling to the remnants of our past, whatever they may be and however one may percieve them. Siddartha Gautam lived and died long before there was Nepal or India, and we dont need to claim him. His teachings are really meaningful, and I adhere to a many of them myself. But his mere being born within what is politically Nepalese boundry now should not be a pride for us. Also, It is a pretty my accepted fact that he was born in Nepal, so why worry about some random misinformation that floats around once in a while.

Another thing I saw in one of those 'Buddha was born in Nepal, not India' groups was an unanimous hatred towards India and Indian people. Why is that? Is that what Buddha would have agreed with??

Last but not the lease, do we really need to convince the world that Mt. Everes is in Nepal?? Are we that insecure??

Those requests are there for the people who are clueless  for getting the right information and created by people who have lots of free time in bringing out  those pages to summon patriotism by uniting all, in what we have .Nothing to bash about; He was born in Nepal just like many of us..that's the truth which, wheather you like it or not, share it or not,not going to change. As a person, those things could carry a trifal meaning but for a country, its the essences that Runs it.Nepal have too few things to boast about--being a tiny and abandoned land helps a lot --to its colleagues(typos** master) countries.Think: How would have Nepal present itself if it ain't got Buddha and Everest too; whatever Nepali essence there left, that would also have vanished. To move on from these guys, there must be something new  that can elicit awe in all of us, so we can all be proud of--which is due from ages. So, till that time, when something novel comes to light or some Champion comes to the fore,be it  a Nepali Empire state,Nepali Golden Bridge,Nepali Effiel Tower,Nepali Niagra Falls,Nepali Leonardo Da Vinci,Nepali Bacon,Nepali Kipling,Nepali Bill Gates,Nepali Newton,Nepali Eienstein,Nepali SuperMan,Nepali IronMan and so on.....the wandering prince and a standing rock are doing the great  job at least without a break to give a glimpse to others where we from.

Dear friends,

do you get tired of reading the news on corruption, rapes, selling of women from Nepal? I never hear you getting tired of hearing that. But you get tired of the work done for the positive cause. How many times did you get the requests? Was it more than farmville requests?

We need to defend that Lumbini is in Nepal because Indians are claiming as its own. There is an active group in India claiming Lumbini is located inside India. So much so that they were able to build structures of duplicate lumbini in India, and they are showing movies in international film festivals claiming Lumbini to be inside India.

I support the campaigns to let the world know Buddha was born in Nepal. It is the failures from past governments and it is shameful that we have to do so much to prove the facts evidenced from achaeological excavations.
