Okay here is the deal. I am tooo tired of seeing photos and getting requests to joing groups claiming that buddha was born in nepal/that mt. everest is in nepal etc etc. So I started the following page for people who think alike.

Why should we care if Siddartha Gautam was born in nepal or bahamas? Why does it matter? Moreover, when he was born there was no Nepal or India. I think we need to let go of this inferiority complex now. I mean, have you seen/herad people of palestine go head over heels to claim that Jesus was born there??
 
Also, if we really care that much about Buddha, shouldn't we follow his teachings? Didn't he tell his followers to let go of their egos??

anyways here is a facebook page dedicated to not hanging on to buddha/mt everest/ Gurkha soldiers for our identities. (last but not the least, why would anyone be proud of the Gurkha/Gorkha soldiers?? all they did was invade and kill other people.)

We all know where Lumbini is. We all know where Buddha was born. Does it matter whether India accepts it or not ?  unless they decide to engulf Lumbini then we have a problem & ... all this he said ,she said, they said is useless.  People who know the real birth place of Buddha will come to Lumbini regardless of what India says. But then again he did reach enlightment in India. Nepal being in the list of DO NOT VISIT COUNTRY(thanks to our Comrades),  Tourism in Nepal at this moment is far fecthed.  If we were sound in all aspects of Nepal as a coutry then fine argue about it or even take em t international court.  गास र बास को  ठेकाना छैन, यो चैनी चीज हो ?  Thats all I am saying.

Bathroomcoffee, thanks for your reply. I think these campaigns are unsuccessfully targeted towards global audience rather than Nepalese. You're right that we know nepalese know Buddha is born in Nepal. You're right about his enlightenment place, but many buddhist followers visit Lumbini because of its birth place. We don't know whether they visited his enlightenment place in India or not.

I totally disagree with you about he say or she say. It is the fact that India has built a place inside its territory claiming it to be Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. Many indian school textbooks and other books mention India as the birthplace of Buddha. Indian documentaries/books on buddhism and religions like to mention India as the birthplace of Buddha, and they show them in international film festivals giving the false information about the birth place of Buddha.

Regarding your question about  गास र बास, how long do you think should we wait before we give importance to other issues as this. Do you think if we don't care about the birth place of buddha, people are going to care more and give more importance regarding  गास र बास? Don't you think that we could also improve  गास र बास by bringing more tourists to Lumbini? Are you saying that we should not cheer for nepali sports such as our national cricket or soccer teams until we improve on our  गास र बास issue because we spend on these sports events that could have been spent on  गास र बास?

What is the big deal about Buddha being born in Nepal?. It has been thousands of years since he died. Anyways, i heard a rumour that some of our Madhesi leaders were not born in Nepal. It is better to look into this and start a facebook page to investigate this. I mean if you are one of those patriots. 

For all we know Buddha could have been born in Bangladesh and since they had no GPS nor proper maps those days, there is a possibility that this could have been a mistake. Why get hypertension unnecessarily coz when you get one, Buddha also cannot help you. Just relax my friends, dont pursue anything that might potentially give you a heart attack in the future. Learn to smile and love, nothing is more important than your health.

Not that anyone cares, and it seems that I shot my own foot by replying on this thread, but this is how I'd like to weigh in.

All of it stems out of our asinine jingoism, combative patriotism and knee jerk reactions without delving deep into the root cause. The reason we know Buddha was born in Nepal is because we read it in our books published ‘in Nepal’. That might not be true in other parts of the world becuase kids in India and Tibet and China could have been educated otherwise. Ashoka made the monument on Lumbini which makes us believe that Buddha was born there, now was Ashoka ‘right’ if he was born there? We do not know. These are unvalidated facts that no one knows is true. I would be more than proud to assume Buddha is born in Nepal, heck yes. Nepal is my country, and my pride but what I have trouble understanding is, when the nation is going through such crisis, many of us want to pick a fight against ourselves over such trivial issue (I doubt if any Indian reads our facebook comments or cares where Buddha was born). That defeats the purpose of following Buddhism, we cannot be combative and hostile and draw daggers and be proud of Buddha being born in Nepal. I’d like to say Buddha was born in Switzerland, Tibet, or Sweden because they are so peaceful and perhaps are involuntarily following Buddha better than we do.

Oh, and did I forget to mention how one supporter of Maoists was all over his facebook wall claiming Buddha was born in Nepal and not in India?? Last time I checked he should be the last person to even think about buddha, let alone talk.

Ok lets say that they agree birthplace of Buddha is Lumbini rey ok ... is that going to help the people of Nepal with their gaas and baaas ? I still don't know which tourists you are talking about ? We have been on a do not travel to this country list for over 12 years.

Are you talking about the same athletes who go AWOL everytime they are taken to an olypic games, or Asian games ? If you are I am not cheering them.

Actually, we all should be happy that Nepal is officially recognised as the birthplace of Buddha. The powers that be of Buddhism recognise Nepal as the birthplace of Buddha and so do governments from all over the world.

All these without a valid birth certificate of Buddha and no official records, i think we have got a good deal. It is better to keep quiet and hush this matter and enjoy the glory associated with it. Too much sensationalising of this issue might invite US experts with their latest gadgets for a field study in Nepal and we might even lose this one.

Personally i don't give a hoots ass where Buddha was born, it is recognized by the international community that he was born in Lumbini, which currently is part of Nepal and that my friend is the official recognisition. India  falsely claim that Buddha was born in india or they may also claim jesus was born in south india or for that matter they may claim mt everest is located to the north of india (geographically speaking that is a true statement if you take their capital city to be the waypoint) so what does that matter? they are playing with your weakness and agitating you and you react exactly how they want you to react... there are so many more pressing issues that Nepal needs to address than to ponder and waste our time on this ridiculous argument.
