YTo all,

Wanna do lotta things but feel like hands tied up. Worked for a while in KTM. Saw the corruption. Did not wanna be part of it so quit the job. Could not speak up as sure nobody would have heard me and in return scared of being put to silence.

Still hoping that someday there gonna be peace.

I belong to KTM and always belong to that place

Peace to yo all

Let me be practical here, [for once throwing all high-sounding pholosophies out of the window] :) :-

1. Sarbapratham, aafno bikash
2.Tyaspacchi family members ko bikash ra sathibhai ko bikash
3. Tyaspach samaj ra rastra (Nepal) bikash ra tyati matra kaha ho ra, sara sansar kai bikash garna tira lagnu parcha, Nepal ko matra kina? Aankhir hami Sansar kai basinda hau ni, haina ra?

yeti bhandai mera aajaka dui sabda yehi tungyauchu , dhanyabaad (saw this statement somehwere in sajha hai, and reminded me of how all debates were required to end with this statement when i was in class 5)

harkedai, no offense but you pose a obsolete and redundant question... people often raise these questions in conventions, gathering and parties... and usually they only succeed in raising more questions and prolonged discussions on - who should be doing what, who is not doing it, and who is responsible for everything...

in my opinion, no one is obligated to do anything... we cannot oblige people to sacrifice their personal gain to serve nepal; there are a few who are willing to do so, that is why such people are held with great regard-- because of their willingness to sacrifice... if you have it in your hearts, you will do it without anyone's recommendation... patriotism isn't something that can be forced on people...

Nepalese that are outside the country are ALREADY contributing to the country. However there seems to be this divide between people residing in Nepal and between the so called NRNs. People residing in Nepal needs to understand fully that the only economic engine that the country has right now is fueled by the NRNs. Its up to the folks in Nepal to do somethign about it rather than blaming for NRNs for abandoning the country. So the next issue is how can the locals in Nepal utilize the potential l of fancially sound diaspora population that are spread all over the world.

If you do some explorations in some of the world-bank reports you will truly see globalization at its new height. They are finding out that the Per Capita income in Remittance-based countries are increasing largely due to the influx of $$ coming from the migrant workers. Even in Nepal our PCI went from $225/yr to $240. Now in the NGO community, the big buzz is DIASPORA FOR DEVELOPMENT

If you are interested to look at the larger issue at hand. If Nepal can improve its political environment and create security, Nepalese economy will turn around in 5-10 yrs. The investment $$ will come from the NRNs.

When I attended the NRN conference, the objective was how to bring NRNs dollars? I gave a long lecture to one of the officials that.. They were on the wrong boat.. The issue at hand and correct me if I am wrong is NOT lack of $$ for investment but the problem at hand with most of the banks in Nepal is lack of projects for investment. Banks are sitting on hoard of remitted funds that are not invested.

From my point, the NRNs are already doing their part. Think about an illegal NRN in NY working for min. wage for some Indian, Korean or Chinese and sending everyy $$ to Nepal. If you track the $$ that sent, you will see chains of mirco economic events creating economie opportunities for PEOPLE IN NEPAL.

So to end my argument, NRNs are sacrificing their dignity, heritage in a totally new land and contributing to the F@#Ked up nation at present. Its time that every citizen in Nepal respece the NRNs be it a Madhise working as a barber in Iraq or a Baje working at a software company in silicon valley.

Peace!

PS for reference if you are in thamel area go talk to local vendors and do a research in who is actually buying in the streets of thamel ..which once catered exclusively to the so called Amrikans!

Sad to hear some of our Nepalese brother's comments on how they want nothing from Nepal or to Nepal. I am amazed by how fast glitters and glamour have dictated these people's mind. As a Nepali myself, I truly believe we must do something. I know that no one will listen to us in Nepal, where corruption "in your face". I have experienced this every time I travel Nepal. Last time when I went Nepal to pick up my wife, I was tormented by government officers in every single offices, and all these just to get a marriage certificate (because of my dual citizenship Nepali/US). Anyways, I went through their procedure, which was probably more complicated than rocket science. I was asked for bribe everywhere, but I refused to do so. Yes, it took me 2 months to get the certificate, but it was well worthy. I didn't let them exploit one more person. Long story short, I understand the situation in Nepal and how difficult to survive with government wage. So corruption is everywhere. If nothing more, we can at least sponsor some children to get some good education, which is what I do.
No matter how dirty, poor, or corrupt it is, it is still the most beautiful countries in the world to me, and I love it to death. Jai Nepal.

Harkedai:

I think its for one to see what they want to do their country. Either they can go ahead and contribute or come up with excuses that they are the lone rangers. As far I as know, last time I checked everyone was talking about corruption and lack of discipline in Nepal--Everyone wanted a nice living environment with equal opps and all but I am not sure if all of us were speaking from bottom of our heart.

We blame our Netas and system but I think the real culprits are us who give opp for those kind of criminals and systems to grow. As long as our mentality doesnt change nothing is going to happen in Nepal.

LovaBoy:

NRNs definitely provide financial assistance to weakening Nepali economy.Morally, I dont know if everything can be put into money. Just imagine a teacher who is capable of educating so many kids in Nepal comes to US and works a modest job and has a decent living for him and his family. What good does it do to Nepal.. Frankly in the broader prespective, it is essential that Nepalis work in NEpal not somewhere else...Going to a different nation and making money is a short term fix not a long term solution.

Also, my hypothesis about NRNS is that, the NRNs from non-US countries contribute more to Nepal than the ones in US....for eg.Just look at it..a guy comes to US and works here illegally for few years until he gets his greencard..THAT MONEY ISNT GOING ANYWHERE...ITS NOT GOING TO NEPAL..its going to be spent in education OR buying properties in right here in US. whereas in regions like Middleeast/Japan/Korea...all the money made my Nepalis are sent to Nepal...because in their cases the chances of spending their life in that land is below 1%..

I think both NRN?s and local nepalis are equally responsible for countries fate?in few years dual citizenship thing will be finalised. I think dual citizenship is a must ONLY with some clauses..like dual citizenship holders cannot hold any government jobs OR get into politics..cuz you know how easy it is to get into politics in Nepal..esp when you have money

Hey loveaboy,
Did you do anything to you country before you were so called NRN............ If not why are you boasting that NRNs are doing much more than the local Nepalese. Do you want all the local Nepalese to follow your path........... or should they necessarily be NRN to feed their country??? If you are a loser ......... then why do you expect local Nepalese to do something........... and never ever dare to use those dirty words to my mother Nepal........... got it.............
Cheers

Hi Casey,

I am not trying to dollar and cent the migration/NRN issue. I think a contribution a teacher makes is incomparable to any $$ out there.. What good does it to Nepal too if a capable person who can earn a living in SFO is doing chakari for a mere RS 3000/mnth job. I have seen some extremely intelligent people under severe depression in Nepal since they dont' have the a door to exit their intelligence.. Is that good for the economy?

Next is US migration.. yes its different that in the middleeast... the way the US migrant workers or the professional maintain relationships with the local economy in Nepal is much different. However, the contributions can not be ignored.

Now for our kuwa ko bhyaguta friend ooum ...what i do and what i did is turly none of your business. I certainly don't want to boast about my contibutions.. the thing you need to understand is we are in a truly globalized world.. we don't have one address.. but we never move away from our identity...at least the first generations...

you can hug your mothernepal with maobadi's head band, death katro and put her a tika with a blood which is plenty..... it will do you some good...desh futera jatra bhaisakyo my nepal my nepal bhan!

the issue is not about NRN feeding Nepal Economy. NRNs are doing their part. Globalization + Diaspora $$ are creating some incredible opportunities that were never there before.

Invest your time on what that opportunities could be?

Narayana Narayana

Turbine bro,
I didn't know too that Nepal had dual citizen until my last visit. I went there with my US passport, so I had to go through non-Nepali process. During this time, Griha Mantralaya (Home Minstry) officials told me that I can still renew my all Nepali documents (passport, citizenship, license, and etc) as a Nepali. They said that I have to officially regien my Nepali citizenship. Until then I am equally Nepali as any other Nepalese. They said they haven't constitutionally passed it as dual citizen law. The only thing is that I cannot use my Nepali passport to get in and out of US. I can use my Nepali passport to any other countries.
