hehe, that's not logically correct!

Just for the sake of this question, say B and C are dumber than me :P, so A, the smartest one has to find it with factual logic, not with fuzzy logic.

I told you, think of the scenario where A makes a conditional statement, "If I were wearing black cap..."

common I am right, may be I explained wrong. Let me explain you again.

A, B and C,

If I had black, by simple logic B and C could claim that theirs were red caps, since A didnot have black cap but red B and C were confused too ... so A took advantage of their reason to be confused and claimed he had red cap .... I meant this by each were looking at 2 red caps so were confused.

I =A, but if B and C were too dumb not to know they have red cap even after looking at one black cap I don't know how to solve this

No, they are not confused. They all are trying to figure out who could be wearing the red cap. You have to logically justify it!

Just take it easy and keep that play in your mind...Maybe you can come up with right answer tomorrow.

I gotta go, too. Good night!

Hehe, swatantratagaamy, don't think all night then! :P

I just mean, it is not something you sit down and do with paper and pencil. The logic can just be reasonable when you are playing that in mind.

I will reveal the answer tomorrow. Good night, all! :)

Lets say,
If A was wearing black cap, he can see B and C wearing red caps.
since A , B and C are all raising hands B and C could have easily claimed to be wearing red had with simple logic. A with black hat would raise hand looking at B and C, but B and C could raise hands only at looking each other. So B and C could easily conclude that each were raising hands looking at each other.

But in this situation since A, B and C are all wearing red hats and all raising hands, A would think B and C were raising hands looking at each other, C would think A and B were raising hands looking at each other and B would think A and C were raising hands looking at each other. None could see black colored cap to comclude that ones cap was red. so as A was more smart than B and C, A claimed to have red cap.

Getting tipsy helps you see through the problem. :)

If A was wearing a black cap, then B and C both would see only ONE red hat each. Since all of them would be raising their hands, B then should know that he should have a red hat since C raised his hand. Same with C too.

But if A REALLY has a red hat, then B and C would not know the color of their hats just by observing the raised hands. So, then A knows that he must have a red hat since B and C (both) do not know the color of their hats. Hence, A claims that he has a red hat.

A sees Red hats on B and C.

If A had a black hat - B would realize that C's hand was raised because B had a red hat or C would realize the same seeing B's raised hand.

Since everybody seems unsure of what color had they're wearing, A is smart enough to assume that A is wearing a red hat because a black hat would have led to the situation above.

Well, I gave up for tonight. I think there could be only one possible answer to it. Knowing Slac gonna reveal it tomorrow, now I can sleep in peace. hhee hold on what if smarter A ask one of those dumb to look at him and sees his (dumb) hand still up?

slackdemic let me explain again in short,
man, is my english that bad, hehehe ;-)) have already tried 3-4 times to explain simple logic.

The only situation where one cannot know the color of his own cap is when all 3 people are raising hands and sees both others wearing same colored caps (red).

A, the smart one, saw that both B and C were not being able to tell the color of their respective caps. If A had black cap, both B and C could tell that they had red caps. As B and C were not sure about the color of their cap, A claimed to have red cap.

Another liquid puzzle:

You have two containers - a 9-liter one and a 4-liter one and an endless supply of water. Fill the 9-liter container with exactly 6 liters of water.

Put 4L + 4L of water in a 9L container. 9L container now contains 8L of water.
From 4L container, put 1L in the 9L container. 4L container now contains 3L.

Empty the 9L container. Put 3L from the 4L container into 9L container.
Put 4L water into 9L container. This makes 7L (4L + 3L) water in the 9L container.
Put 2L water from 4L container into 9L container. 4L container now contains 2L of water.

Empty the 9L container again. Put 2L from the 4L into the 9L container.
Put 4L into the 9L container. That makes it 6L (2L + 4L) in a 9L container!!

Ok, just saw slacdemic's problem and decided to work on it. I'm not sure if this is right or wrong but here's a shot.

A, B, C are the three guys. By now, we all know that everyone is raising their hands. But then, B, being a smart one, thinks, if I were wearing a black hat, A or C would have realized they are wearing a red hat because A and C woud see that B has a black hat on and that they are raising hands because they see the red hat on each other.

However, B sees that everyone is raising hands and noone has claimed they have a red hat on, so if they're smart (unlike us :D) they will probably all say "I have a red hat on!"
together.

:D.

Is that right slackdemic?

Ok, here's a problem my math professor gave me during coffee. A few of us used to hang out and he'd give us these problems.

So here it is. If you have seen it please do not answer unless someone does.

Two ladies met several years after they had graduated from university. One lady- A, was a mathematician. The other lady- B, was a housewife.

B, the housewife, has three sons- x, y, and z. After a few minutes of talking B decided to give a achallenge and asked her to find the age of her three sons. She gave her two hints:

1. x*y*z=72 [i.e. the product of their ages is 72]
2. x+y+z=number of windows in building across the street.

A worked on the problem for a while and finally said, "Can you give me another hint?"
B said "Yes"

A asked "Does your oldest son have red hair?"
B gave the answer and A gave the solution for x, y and z.

Question: Find x, y and z.

A lot of you may dispute the solution in the end.
