Nepal has seen several revolutions since 1950s but every elected government bodies have failed to keep their promises. Sacrifices have gone in vain. We nepalese know well by now party system do not function well and we always hope after every election Nepal will turn over a new leaf! We are dreaming similar dream again. The new govt. is trying to find a new guy for president and Mr.Nepal is on the top of the list (I think I am gone deaf). They turned down Harvard Graduate Ambassador for the president. My question -

1. Are we not ready for intellectuals to run the country?

2. Are we not tired of illiterate politicians? For example - let's ask the forest and soil minister = what is a ecosystem and what is a soil profile? I guarantee he will stumble.

BTW I am still waiting for answers for my previous questions. Come on guys, u can answer them.

More questions coming ur way.

Enjoy

If the public could vote for the Moabadis (who are commies: the greatest and the most irrational of the uneducated bunch) to rule the nation, I don't see why we cannot have a non-highly educated ministers run the nation.  We asked for it, so we need to live with it, ain't it?  This after all, is the New Nepal (or so they say).

बन्धु;

unicornis, with a goddamn Maoist as our head, I've already given up hopes for the people who elected him and his vice-filled comrades.  Anyone care to take these wannabe dictators out?  I don't think so!!  We've lil or no chance and thats how its all gonna remain.  If education as you say is the most important factor, then that mental lunatic Babuf-ingRan should be the Prez instead of Prachanday, ain't it?

Smell the coffee bro, this is the real world and things are not always rational.

botth syanjali and samara,

guys, u are giving up very easily.

there has to be a way. take us for example, it took us 19th and 20th century to go abroad and acquire higher education and now we have the chance. only if we work together, i think we can make difference. forget about the old schools.

whadyya say?

samara, i am fully awake. hae 3 cups already. i still see ray of hope. i know even the maoists will not last long. no education is not the only factor but it is a very important factor. i have heard babu cannot express himself - a criteria a politician must have.

like i said they are all old schools. this is why we need intellectual revolution. i know there are eligible candidates out there. BUT we have a bigger problem = no unity!!

For a revolution to succeed we need the support of the common folks. Sadly, they don't count as one of your "intellectuals."

I don't think that we are not ready for the intellectual revolution, it just we dont have any intellectuals who are willing to make changes...Think about half of you intelligent folks in Sajha just say we need that and we should do that...But who among you are willing to go back and even start a small business....And the intelligent ones in Nepal are more loyal to India or Indians because that what they need to do in order to survive....Who in USA or UK or any other western countries are in any way supporting or even have a pressure group to help develop Nepal or root out poverty and corruption...And for those of you who keep blaming Nepali population and Maoist, tell me what choice do the population have....either vote for corruption and get nothing or at least give a try to Maoist who promise them something....As for Maoist, at least they have a vision....I don't ever hear that from our so called intelligence mass from outside of the country...

As I do support intelligent revolution, what we need before that is people that care...People that care about the plight of country, our people, our culture, and most of all our future...Most people outside Nepal could give a rat ass about Nepal and Nepali otherwise where there is a will, there is a way...

fortunehead,

yep, i agree with u and this why is we need education so that we can understand +ve/-ve effects or our actions. we have been repeatedly fooled by the politicians cause we elect the same guy again and again. just for ur info our literacy rate is 48.6% (India 61%), unemployment rate is 42% (India 7.2%). do the math and see the difference. other numbers are even more depressing. just image Nepal with 70% literarcy rate and people acting sensibly.

enjoy

Just to keep the facts straight..Education is the double edged razor sharp sword! Go back to Nepal and see for yourself...the ones who're still stuck on castism, status and discrimination are the so called educated fools en masse! They enforce these more than anyone else. That to me is much more surprising. As for intellectual revolution, that's an absolute bullcrap. Only thing we need is self rebelution :) everything starts within!

Whenever some one raise voice indicating our poltician need to be educated, someone comes up and throws a shallow argument  like "Hallo partner intelectual bhaneko ke ho? des PHD gareko manche le chalaucha bhanne tapai ko abadharana ho bhane you are fail.  PHD gareka kati manche world ma president chan malai bhannus na". This argument may work only when you opt to live in 16th century. Son! this is a 21st century and you have to have brain and intellectual capacity to run the system with innovation and aggression. If you want to improve your economy, you have to have knowledge about globalization, technological advancement, and issue of national and international importance.  Just imagine how your uneducated leader would present themselves with the donars and forieghn diplomat while negotiating the deal...would they be able to speak up or argue?? A country which literally runs under mercy of donar agencies, how would you imagine a non or ill/de-educated person to be in a power. This is just a mere example.

Well look at the developed countries,  Tony Blair, Bush, Clinton to mana mohan singh...were they ever gothala?? Yes "gothala" may well know  about where to take his flock of sheeps, but running and leading country is not about being "gothala". Ironically, today our country is run by "gothala" and people are acting like " sheeps"..otherwise outdated communisim would not come into power having killed 13000 people.

So, first of all, stop making worthless comment against " need for education". Kid, education is the most.

Btw, like samsara, I also have given up...if people are suffering now, i guess they too deserve it. Do not ask me why? that would be a stupid question....

unicornis, the Indian state of Kerala has a 100% literacy rate and they're still run by irrational commies (who in my mind have had educations wasted upon their imbecile minds).  Therefore, I don't see where your rhetoric stems outta.  Education has a small part to play in a Third World Nation's development (here peeps are more worried about their next meal and a place to lay their head at night than the basics of an A,B,C).  Hardwork, Experience, Performance Incentives and most importantly "truly good" intentions are the essential building blocks!
