Nepal has seen several revolutions since 1950s but every elected government bodies have failed to keep their promises. Sacrifices have gone in vain. We nepalese know well by now party system do not function well and we always hope after every election Nepal will turn over a new leaf! We are dreaming similar dream again. The new govt. is trying to find a new guy for president and Mr.Nepal is on the top of the list (I think I am gone deaf). They turned down Harvard Graduate Ambassador for the president. My question -

1. Are we not ready for intellectuals to run the country?

2. Are we not tired of illiterate politicians? For example - let's ask the forest and soil minister = what is a ecosystem and what is a soil profile? I guarantee he will stumble.

BTW I am still waiting for answers for my previous questions. Come on guys, u can answer them.

More questions coming ur way.

Enjoy

hello all,

thanks for the comments, views and opinions. i will answer each one of your comments. but lemme answer 'pyaradeshbasiharu'. no, i am not one of those who lives here and dreams about doing something in Nepal. I am doing something in Nepal and intend to do so after graduation. I will post some photos shortly of what I/we did to expose Nepal.

please be aware there are some nepalese who does want to do something. my sole purpose to use sajha is to find and get a feel how educated perceive Nepal's and Nepalese plight. and remember discussion is a healthy way to find a solution. Nonetheless I welcome critics too.

Enjoy.

Nepali Hero 1,

yes very few nepalese wants to go back. i don't blame them either (no opportunites). and yes, nepalese did not have choice except to vote for maoists. like u said, where there is a will there is way. that's it. we gotta have will to bring some changes and from will comes determination and strength.

what we are looking for is strong willed, confident, honest, hard working bunch for leaders. this is why I posted this question = are we not ready yet??

snrup,

i was back in Nepal recently and go back every year and grew up there. but i never felt what u felt. castism came from education? u gotta elaborate on this. but ur idea of revolution is good=it has to come from within. isn't this the time to sprout that feeling or do we have to wait for another decade?

jkahanlal,

no, 'intellectual' means anyone who use their minds creatively not just PhDs. to me even a 'gothala' is also an intellectual being cause he use his mind creatively every day to make sure his goat/cow herd is satisfied by taking them to waterholes, finding pastures etc.

I am not saying i know more than Nepal's politicians but in some fields I may know more but tell me one thing -

1. what is the last thing u remember they have done that all nepalese can appreciate??

no, i belong to a middlle class family and know Nepal and her plight pretty well.

bhimsine boka,

don't get me wrong but u seem like one of those who doesn't know what the heck is going on! u said we have politicians with 40 yrs of experience securely tucked up thier sleeves so answer my following questions -

1. why Nepal is poor??

2. why we have 42% unemployment rate??

3. why KTM still have garbage and sewage problems?? i can give a list. 4.

4. why in every rainy season we lose our highways and travellers get stranded like i was for several times?

5. most of all, why people are not happy?? there are too many WHYs. hope u can handle them.

kanchu,

thanks but losing heart without doing anything is living a life of a coward. i am not saying u are a coward, we nepalese are brave so keep up the spirits. change do not occur in days, it takes time and effort. what we can do is continue our efforts even though it doesn't make a dent for now but keep ur heads up.

     Father KANCHU

I don’t think your argument is deep (if mine is shallow). Do you think you have brain only? The governments of Nepal always run by those kinds of people who has brain in your language. All of them are dhani batha ra padheka you think garib napadheka ra sojha haru kahile satta ma aaye?

People like you are the problem in our system always. If you come to Nepal and see around the winner of election you will see people like you. Sandhe (Bull) ko jharla ra khaula bhanera ghumiraheka.

I had just put the example of gothala to prove that who knows the country better they can run the country and you thought that I mean gothala run the country. Manda buddi bhanchan tyaslai.

                                                           And

You need to know that education means not only go to school and get the degree.

Go to villages of Nepal and learn about it, do research, share the experience collect the data, write the thesis you probably get the PHD from university. This kind of work they are always doing in their life.

samsara,

i know common nepalese struggle day in day out to make their ends meet. but there is a reason for that - again lack of education. tell me who has the most kids? low-paid workers such as rickshaw pullers/peons etc. its the same scenario eveywhere. once u have kids, u have to feed them. and to feed them, u have to work hard. and when u work hard u have no time for school and education teaches u the consequences of wrong decisions. but in context of Nepal, we cannot afford to send our kids to school plus we have argarian culture that means more kids means more hands in the field. still eductaion can open our eyes and may stick to two kids.

its not fair to compare nepal with kerela. it is a state while we are a country. the commies are controlled by the central govt. of India not kerela only. plus i will focus on Nepal's richness in my future questions.

keep sending ur thoughts and views

Don’t get me wrong either. I knew about country.

  1. Nepal is poor because of bikau neta like …… (I don’t wanna named), Monarchy, family rulers and the government of those people who has every things in their life.
  2. There is no planning for poor people by state.
  3. The problem of the garbage is because of those people in government who has no touch with the people of land field area and no good disposal solutions.
  4. Because of Road and transportation department’s people (probably they are educated isn’t it). They never did their jobs.
  5. People are not happy because always the government was run by those people who has no sense of hummers with the people of real Nepal.

jakhanlal,

fyi, i came from very remote part of nepal. i used to walk to school wearing only half panbt and chappal. I had to cross the river, in rainy season, we all used to get so scaredand we all kids used to join hands together to cross the river so that no one is swept away. you are telling me to visit remote nepal..yeah you are still son! kid i have been and seen nepal more beyond your imagination so..u stop it..and people in US work hard and no one would wait " sandhe ko ful jharla ra khaunla"..that may only apply to you..goodluck for that..

Son! you are telling me uneducated people can contribute to the nation ..yes they certainly can, but when it comes to actual leadership, that too for 21st centuray, you would need educated people...leadership is not only about politcal leadership, look at the business sector, banking sector...who are there ?? it is just  in politcs few selfish and currupt people and puppet of india, are sucking nepal. but that does not mean we should replace them by uneducated people. and do not give that shit, if that just because you are in nepal you know nepal better...that is often argued by " loser" only..

btw, samsara yes i do agree keral had communist govt, but on the other hand some indicators like life expectancy rate, child mortality rate, gdp etc are at par with  with the developed country. i read this amartya sen's " freedom as development" which he has illustrated example of kerala well, unfortunately in nepal, communist are like butchers and other parties are bunch of " criminals" ..so we do not have any option. and now it is total chaos...

this is why i gave up!

mr boka,

1. why they became bikau? and who let it happen??

2. I do not get it. u mean proper planning will uplift livelihood of people - how??

3. u mean people working for municipality do not possess enough knowledge to find a land fill! what do you think they require to find a solution?

4. u mean 'sense of homour' is required to build a nation. that's it. i don't buy it, man. u gotta be more specific and convincing.

discussion is good. so keep on doing it.

what do you trying to prove? You have big knowledge and all other has no?

1. Are we not ready for intellectuals to run the country?

Who is the intellectuals? Those who are run behind leader to get "kamau  khalko kam"

2. Are we not tired of illiterate politicians? For example - let's ask the forest and soil minister = what is a ecosystem and what is a soil profile? I guarantee he will stumble.

Did you know what you are saying in your 2nd point? That's why you are saying "little brain is dengerious"

Mitra tapailai tapai le padheko subjectma quistions garo bhane fail huna ber chaina aahile.

I think the following reasons serve more to keep us the way we are
-  We don't have natural resources
-  We aren't strategically located to attract international business firms
-  Low motivation for industrial development ( things come easily from India and China ) , hence low export

As for the politicians and bureaucrats; they are screwed up everywhere.

jhakhanlal,

now now don't get hyper here. i am not trying to prove anything but try to keep the discussion flowing. learning, experience, knowledge acquiring never cease until we die.

i am not saying i know everything but do know some.

u can ask me questions. i will try to answer.

i know what i asked in the 2nd point. it is about ministers we have who do not have the knowledge and know the meaning of the positions they are holding. i gave example of soil and forest. we have tourism ministers who doesn't know the meaning of tourism.

bring it on, man and keep the discussion going.

F22,

oh! we have plentiful natural resources and attractions that can lure the rest of the world. we have been successful in doing that but there is a big 'BUT'...

our politicians including that of rest of asia are screwed.

if u want, i can explain more on the natural resources.

enjoy and thanks for hopping in the bandwagon.

Unicornis,

Please explain on natural resources.  I know its asking a lot, but if time permits also include some conceptual thoughts on using it for economic development.  Thanks for the bandwagon; jumping on the bandwagon is my favorite passtime.
