Nepal saw the massacre of the last king Birendra and everyone in his family. We are seeing King G is acting in a crazy manner these days, it seems all that he is doing these days is for the love his son, which is similar to the Mahabharat's Dhritrastra's affinity to his son Duryodhan. As soon as Duryodhan was slained, Dhritrastra saw things clear even if he was blind from birth.

So, since Nepalese have seens so much upside down, unheaval in politics. What will be the scenario in the event Paras Shah will be eliminated? They say in politics everything is acceptable provided the conspiracy is hatched for the good of people. Who should take this job? Let's discuss.

Forget about killing. Assume Paras was killed in his Harley Davidson while biking in Dharan recently. How such event will change the political scenario as there is no one for king G without Paras, how king G will act?

Things can change quite diferently in the event Paras goes out of picture.

Yeah he is too small to have an impact physically and too immature to impress anyone with his idealogy and blah blah. But, one should not forget the symbolic significance for simply being next in line( after paras).

Gaynendra is not dying in a yr or two. Hez gonna live for another decade at the least and lot can change by then.

In our history; in the most trubulent of times, our country has been ruled by minors, i.e, Gayen himself, rajendra etc, even though they only were symbolic figures and the real power lay with others. Ho yedi gyana nai gayo bhane, monarchy ko end huna sakcha.

Crown Prince Paras? recent visits to national parks and other nature-protection sites encourage conservationists and the common people

It is said that a good king grows under the apprenticeship of his father. The heir to the throne can acquire diverse knowledge about the country?s traditions, practices, hopes and aspirations through travels and experiences undertaken early on as crown prince.

A globally renowned conservationist himself, King Gyanendra seems to have found nature as the ideal place to train the crown prince. After his appointment as chairman of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC) nearly a year ago, Crown Prince Paras has visited four important conservation, demonstrating a deep interest in nature and its relationship with the people.

Initiating his visit from national museum and the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development?s demonstration site in Godavari, Crown Prince Paras toured the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation. He then traveled to Chitwan to meet flood-affected people at Jagatpur village. During his stay there, the crown prince visited various areas of the national park and inspected its program.

At a time when some leaders of the country?s major political parties are calling for greater transparency in the royal palace, Crown Prince Paras? visits reinforced the reality that the monarchy already has struck strong roots in the people.

The king?s and the crown prince?s popularity is rooted in the abiding reverence of the people. Based on the illustrious traditions, practices and heritage of the nation, the monarchy has maintained cordial relations with the people that have been reinforced over the generations by a common quest for the nation?s welfare.

While politicians subject themselves to periodic elections based on their party orientation and policy platforms, the monarchy draws strength and sustenance from the people. Because of these deep roots in religion, culture and society, the institution has proved to be the anchor of national stability during good times and bad.

In the year since he ascended the throne, King Gyanendra has worked with two prime ministers in a common endeavor to steer the country out of what is one of the most difficult periods in its history. The crown?s wisdom, experience and sagacity continue to sustain governance. Under the traditions and practices of the institution, the crown prince is trained for his future role from an early age. Through such social activities as sports and nature conservation, the future monarch gets a special opportunity to interact with a cross section of the people and understand their difficulties and aspirations.

"Crown Prince Paras has done well by choosing the area of nature conservation to go to the people and learn about the country," says a political analyst who has closely studied the monarchy. "This way, relations between the monarchy and the people will continue to be strengthened."

Our political leaders would be on a futile quest if they try to negate, in the name of transparency and accountability, the traditions and conventions that have long underpinned the monarchy. In Nepal?s case, the monarchy?s centrality to everyday life predates the creation of the nation, not to speak of parliament or elections.

"As the institution of monarchy is always based on traditions and practices, it functions according to them," says the political analyst. "In a democratic party, there might be problems of succession. The monarchy, however, has a set practice," he says. "Even in the midst of June 1, 2001 tragedy at the royal place, the glorious traditions and practices underpinning the institution ensured stability and continuity and helped to pull the country out of crisis."

Today?s constitutional system does not presuppose the king?s active role in day-to-day affairs. But it envisages the monarch?s participation in governance by exercising his prerogative to be consulted, the responsibility to warn and the right to encourage the government on issues of national interest.

According to Article 43(2) of the Constitution of Kingdom of Nepal 1990, the king may offer suggestions or encouragement to or alert the council of ministers on matters of national importance. The centrality of the crown is enshrined in Article 27(3), which says His Majesty shall abide by and protect the constitution for the best interest and progress of the people of Nepal.

During his recent visits, Crown Prince Paras has shown a perceptible interest in meeting the people and understanding their difficulties. Such visits would continue to offer the future monarch special insight into what is going on in the country and how the people feel about it.

For Crown Prince Paras, the KMNTC - the brainchild of his father - is the ideal place for apprenticeship. The trust runs many internationally acclaimed projects though the direct involvement of the local people. Crown Prince Paras can interact with the people at their own doorsteps, gaining a better understanding of the challenges of development and the hardships of the people living in different parts of the country.

Following the state visit to India a year ago, Crown Prince Paras completes his visit to Nepal?s northern neighbor China this year

After the proclamation as the Crown Prince three years ago, Crown Prince Paras has been gradually learning his royal roles and duties. After his visit to India a year ago, he recently completed his second official visit to Nepal?s northern neighbor China.

Following the mysterious palace massacre in June 2001 when all the family members of late King Birendra were killed, the role of Paras has transformed from that of a Prince to the Crown Prince.

King Gyanendra proclaimed his only son Paras Shah and daughter-in-law Himani as the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of the Kingdom of Nepal in accordance with the Constitution of Kingdom of Nepal 1990 and the Royal Succession to Throne Act 1998 in October 2001.

Sandwiched between two equally strong Asian Powers India in the south and China in the north, Nepal is in a very delicate situation. Crown Prince might have experienced the reality by his visits.

During his official visit to India, Crown Prince Paras had visited north and south India including India?s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This time Crown Prince Paras and Crown Princess Himani visited Lhasa - the capital of Tibetan Autonomous Region and many other major industrial cities of China.

During his 11 days sojourn, the future monarch also visited the ancient and historical sites of China including great wall and forbidden cities. Crown Prince Paras also met Chinese leaders including president and premier in Beijing.

Royal couples and Nepalese delegation were given a warm welcome in all three different parts of the region. According to the reporting in the Nepal Television by Rama Singh, Royal Couples were provided the taste of Chinese history, culture, commonalities of culture between Nepal and China as well as the economic miracles achieved by China in the last two decades.

Soon after the proclamation, the formal process of grooming of future monarch has begun. King Gyanendra has also appointed Crown Prince Paras as the chairman of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC).

As the chairman of the Trust, Crown Prince Paras has already visited a number of countries and various sites of conservation areas. He addressed an international conference in a Central Asian country a few years back.

His grooming is being carried out through attending of inaugural ceremonies and meeting people with his father King Gyanendra. Even as certain controversies have erupted regarding the Crown Prince; the process of grooming is taking place side by side.

With the dissolution of the House of Representatives three years back, Crown Prince Paras has missed a greater opportunity back home to learn the duties, functions and traditions of the constitutional monarch.

Had the parliament functioned and the political processes taken root, the grooming of the future constitutional monarch would have been different. As there are no immediate signs to hold the elections or functioning of parliament, the future monarch will miss his important episode in the grooming.

?One of the difficult tasks of the institution of monarchy in Nepal is that it has to build up a consensus at home and sympathizers abroad when modern institutions are yet to establish in the country,? said a political analyst.

The institution of monarchy in Nepal is not based on likes and dislikes of popular voters as it remains a source of change as well as mainstay of continuity and traditions.

In presence of Crown Prince Paras and Chinese vice-president, three major projects were signed. The projects include construction of greater ring road inside the Kathmandu valley, laying down fiber optical link between Kathmandu-Lhasa through Kodari highway and the construction of Civil Servant Hospital.

The inner Ring Road was also constructed with the support from Chinese government in the past. Construction of the outer ring road is one of the biggest projects signed between Nepal and China in the recent years.
