Yesterday's court decision to lift the stay order on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nepal dealt a devastating blow to many in our community. It’s disheartening to see some individuals on platforms like Sajha respond with insensitivity and disrespect toward fellow Nepalis facing this crisis. Many TPS recipients have called the United States home for over two decades, building families, careers, and lives here. The stress and uncertainty they now face—potential family separation and shattered dreams—are unimaginable. Let’s refrain from worsening their pain with thoughtless or hurtful comments.
We hope and pray that our Nepali brothers and sisters are spared from the severe consequences of this policy shift. While the current administration’s stance is clear, deporting individuals who have contributed to society and paid taxes for over 20 years is deeply unjust and inhumane. Let’s stand in solidarity, offering compassion and support during this challenging time.

This is a bigger topic than most realize. It doesn't hurt to be nice and kind to anyone, much less those in the TPS bracket. The amount of sneering and jeering that goes on in sajha is beyond comprehension. Then there are those fear mongers. Harmless banter is one thing, but there's isn't shortage of those who think they are a cut above the others, and constantly post garbage in sajha to spread fear. Heck, there are people who jeered and continue to jeer here in Sajha at our own Nepali brothers from Bhutan. Remember - we are all economic migrants. Slaves of opportunity, me included. One deals with the deck of cards that you are are given. Some stayed in another location/country for a bit longer. Those in the TPS bracket, or outside, are just the same. These brothers and sisters have been in stress like never before. Much respect to them for navigating these tough times. If you were abroad for more than 10 years, realize this - for those who are in Nepal, you are already a 'bideshi'. They don't consider you that integral part of of community anymore. Of course they won't say it in your face! Can't blame them! They will take your $$ but don't forget you are in a different camp now! In short, be nice to one and all. Know that if Nepal had opportunities galore for all, no one would be abroad - we would all try and make a living in our own country. Cheers!

People who have lived abroad for more than 10 years often find that their relatives and community back home no longer see them as part of the circle. Instead of support, they may face jealousy and even silent hopes for their failure. For those who had stable careers and strong savings, returning to Nepal is not a problem—they can live comfortably without worry. But for those with less stable jobs and limited savings, life in Nepal can feel extremely difficult, almost like living in hell.
