DEAR FRIENDS ,

WE FEEL THAT STAYING AWAY FROM HOME WE SHOULD DO WHATEVER WE CAN IN SAVING OUR NATION from foreign bullies. WE HAVE BEEN THINKING OF FILING A PETITION IN INDIAN EMBASSY, CHINESE EMBASSY AND THE UN AGAINST INDIA FOR SHELTERING THE MAOIST Guerrilla . India should know that we Nepales are not like what we were in the yesteryears and we will not let anything India wants to happen to our Nepal. India put Pakistan's name in UN and tried its best to declare Pakistan as terroist country. What about us going to DC and handling the petition telling India not to cause terrorism in our country, telling them to stop providing security, shelter and financial and ammuntion help to maoists? do write to us about your views. What can we do here to contribute to our national stability besides that?

Maddog says-
..Due to some lame a*s trade treaty signed by some fool.......Wake up or Die........Dharti ko bojh...if you cant see indian influence in our daily life in Nepal.....than you are not a Nepali.....
If they were good influences...we would not have this situation at all..........all the corruption........Ghus.........is a direct result of Indian influence.........I

I agree that India has always tried to manipulate the situation in Nepal and in true sense, India benefits when the situation in Nepal is troubled.

Few examples,
1.When Sher Bahadur's Government was in dialogue with the maoists, this is India who first declared maoists as the terrorists. This is India who started arresting maoists in India. This is India who said " They want consitutional monarchy and multiparty system in Nepal'. All the intention they had at that time was to disturb the dialogue.

2. India arrested maoists leaders in India, except few exceptions, they didn't handover other leaders to Nepal government. Mohan Vaidya, who was supposed to be in West Bengal Jail was reported to be involved in Delhi in last SPA and maoist meeting. May be its not only rumour.

3. A few times, Nepal police intelligence has informed India about the location of maoist shelter in India but Indians have not taken initiative to arrest them.

4. India had no problem of absolute monarchy of Nepal until Nepal purchased weapon from China in 1989 (90) and imposed economic sanctions in Nepal.

5. India wants its influence prevail in Nepal's economy, politics and in defence.

BUT

This is NOT TRUE that its ONLY KING who can protect Nepal from India. The Royalist present king as the only shield to protect Nepal from India and they potray the political leaders as Pro-Indians. This is just a propaganda.

Indian issue can not be a cover to protect King from the wave of people's protest. No matter India takes the side of the democracy or the monarchy, restoration of democracy in Nepal is inevitable.

It's a repetitive rhethoric that India has indeed helped Maoists to flourish in Nepal. Few months ago, India did manage to hold meeting between Madhav Nepal, Girija and the Maoists.....India is the only point from where Maoists are able to bring in the weapons......

I don't think MadDogg or Hukka for that matter are objecting the restoration of Democracy in Nepal. India indeed benefits from unrestness in Nepal, or any of its sorrounding nations for that matter. M5 did talk about Hydropower...Nepal sells its Hydropower to India in cheaper rates....a lot cheaper than what Nepali pay, and even worse....much cheaper than what India would pay to produce it itself.....Simply because Girija was successful in pulling this trade off...which benefitted no Nepali interests.....leaders like Girija will continue to sell Nepal's interests to India.....for eg. Tanakpur Kanda, the contract of Mechi and Mahakali river...same with building dams...India wants dam be built in Nepal's land...and have Nepali land flood over its...If you guys haven't been to the Koshi river dam....that will tell you the whole story....Recently, India was able to hold peaceful elections in the area occupied by Naxalites.....It manages its terrorists just fine...but supports Nepal's terrorists...

We had Democracy, an India still pulled off its stunts to oppress Nepal...during the 90s..It will never change unless we have a renewed attitude towards India...

It is for sure, we need to clean our house first before we can do anything else ! May peace prevail !

once in a while

is there a economic sanction against nepal? i didn't know that. india refused to sell arms because RNA was committing atrocities against nepali people so they didn't wanted the blame of helping the king against the people. then only king played china card.

of course they will not hand over political figures be it maoist or anything other they are bound byinternational law when it comes to extradition of political dissents.

are you not contradicting point 1 with point number 2 in your comment.

India wants its influence prevail in Nepal's economy, politics and in defence. hello who doesn't any powerful country will. if nepal had upper hand we would try to do the same thing .
you see there are so many rich nepali in nepal where does the money come from?. nepali economy is fairly good we just need a stable free and fair government so that the poors can get better opportunities as well. as far as politics and defence goes, nepal will always depend on india like it or not we are landlocked (unless we bomb and flatten our himalayas, maybe we should do that or at least threaten to do that if india blocks borders)
i am not sure what you mean by defence.

anyway good comment!

nightcrwlr,

exactly. that is why i stress in good leadership and establishment of a fair and eemocratic government which can make deals that are more favorable to nepal. gayane needs to step down. give power back to people.

see we are not idiots. the netas did a bad deal it came out in public. royal sells nepal and we won't know a thing and if we knew and protest we will get shot.

that is why chor girije is way better than daku gayne. girije can be replaced .......

Agree BirBhadra Ji,

But, what if maintaining good relationship ends up giving our valued natural resources, and our vested interests to India....There is a huge trade discrepancy between India and Nepal...Nepal cannot export Vegetable Oil to the third world without paying royalty to India simply becoz we use their land to transport.....But, UN says, a landlocked country should have unrestricted access to ports via neighboring country.....we don't have that...India makes us use Calcutta port vs. Bengali port which is much closer....things like that are simply unfair, unjust and against UN charter......there are many more...More than 50% Indians know Nepal as one of their province...Becoz that's what is written in Indian text books...same with Mt. Everest....same with the River Ganga...they know it by Ganges....originating from Nepal.......Even Chandra Shekhar during his visit in early 90s said he thought Nepal was one of theirs...not that he didn't know...he said it just to bully us....

you are right,

that is why i stress a democratic government represented by people. if we have a legitamate government we can take these issues to UN..

see india can take nepal militarily overnight justlike US took iraq but it won't happen taking over and controlling are two different things.

i totally blame our leaders for not stepping up for a better deal in favor of nepal. all of these old netas were freedom fighters in india and are as a matter of fact respected even today by revered indian leaders. but that doesn't mean you become mahadev and give away parwati .

i am very optimistic that we will get a new generation leader who will take the country in the right direction.

as far as them claiming nepal being part of india it won't happen. just because they teach doesn't mean they can have it. is this true even today? i have met so manu indians only one said mount everest was in india or at least some part of it was. before i could correct him another indian guy corrected him.

it is however interesting that this guy was a south indian and the guy who corrected him was a northern one.

Bir Bhadra, I am talking about the economic sanction of 1990 when Rajeev Gandhi was the prime miinister of India and Marich Man Singh in Nepal.

What I all tried to say is that India is using the maoist to keep the situation of Nepal under their grip.

They allow their land to be hideout for the maoists but when Nepal's government try to establish contact with the maoists with positive intention, then its their turn to provoke the maoists. Sher Bahadur's government was in talks with the maoists but India had to approve the military support for Nepal at the same time.

When Nepal's government becomes strict on maoists...then the Indians loosen their control over the maoists.

Nepal's maoist must realized that they have been just utilized.

Look at Sri Lanka. Its Indians who promoted Tamil Tigers. Indian helicopters dropped guns and bags of food for Taliban fighters. Later, the same Rajeev Gandhi sent Indian troops to crush the Talibans.

So, Nepal's maoist and parties have to keep India in distance. Indian support for Nepal's democracy movement is just an attempt to take the side of winning faction. Didn't Man Mohan Singh continue to send the Lethal Arms to Nepal although they said they wouldn't support King's government?

When the issue of Bhutanese refugee comes, India always cuts off saying that its a matter between Nepal and Bhutan but for the first time, its West Bengal Government's truck that came fully loaded with the Bhutanese refugees and dumped in Nepal side. Bhutanese Nepali at the beginning had taken shelter in West Bengal and Indian had even given them some support too, but India later traded with Bhutanese government on something and Indians drove the Bhutanese Nepali towards Nepal.

didn't that help us getting democracy?

well i agree with you india has done so many things unfavorable to nepal. BUT it didn't happen because they want us to suffer. it happened because they have a policy of their own which is designed for the betterment of their country. i do not expect them to do any thing for us. we are quite capable of doing things for our country.

but alienating ourselves from anyone is not going to solve the problem. we need india's help to topple the monarchy or at least get democracy. after that we will push for things that are good for our country they will push for what is good for their country and so on.

Thanks once in a while, for keeping things in perspective.

I don't understand why is Birbhadra having such a difficult time to accept the simple fact that india never has nor will do anything to better and strength Nepal. And maoist are their latest byproduct. So, even if we make peace with the maoist (considering the maoist now understand that they were being used by india for only their own advantage). I won't be afraid to bet everything I own that something else created by india will hover and become Nepal's next big challenge/ problem / conflict.

I know we have cultural and religious ties with india and some of you might even have immediate family memebers who are indians, so may be thats why we have people like Birbhadra with their sentiment on this topic. However, anyone who has seen the past and is living the present should not object of Nepali people filing petition aginst india on their Nepal policy. It's OK and it's not a personal attack on YOUR people.

I also agree that we are well capable of solving our problem and developing our country but they need to STOP adding on to our problems if they can't and won't be partners in our development and betterment of our lives. india has heard on numerous occasion from our kings, politicians, political parties, and from other rebels and revolutionaries. But judging from their action it appears that they have not heard voice of a common Nepali. So, if our leaders are not going to represent us and speak our minds, it's about time we take matter in our own hand and let india have a piece of our mind. Their deeds are not appreciated by Nepalis and let there be NO confusions about it!

Enough said!!!

P.S. Please inform us on how and when we can sign the petition.
