A 23 year old +2 graduate just migrated to the US with a green card. His sole intention is to make money so he can support a family of 6 back home and is willing to work multiple jobs/80 hours a week if offered. What are some jobs that do not require higher college degree yet pay decent ?

Yeah its the choice..we can do nothing...there are plenty of people who thinks like that they can earn more money by going to highschool also...if they love their job then we can't do anything..isn't it?..even a post man who works earns lots of money with full benifits from government.last time i saw vacancy for salesman in medicine filed just like MR in nepal, they were asking for highschool graduates for certain experience and damn the slary was awesome..but all these type of job are hard working job...its good for only people who wants to earn more money and don't want to go to college...

HARD WORK PAYS IN AMERICA!!!!!This is why you do not see so much stress in higher education in america than in other country .A highschool grad can make comfortable living without college degree.

Stop calling me pessimist!!!The topic of the thread is "MONEY MATTERS"
read it sajahuser with your both eyes open ..chinky:)hahaha
I am never a pessimist .i am rational thinker:)
there is always otherside of the coin!!!i try to give my observation, facts and examples:)

But i agree with you "THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN JUST MONEY"

I came to the US at age of 22 with GC (thru DV) and +2 education. So I had a similar case to yours, right? Joining college to obtain a bachelors degree will be the best decision you'll ever make. I'll finish my B.S. in Electrical Engineering by 12/2006. As a permanent resident, you can receive low interest loans and financial aid + scholarships as long as you maintain satisfactory grades.

Here are some jobs which may allow you to both work and study:
- newspaper delivery $10-$15/ hr
- night shift clerk at Hotels $10-$15/hr
- college labs/library $ 6- $10/hr

After two years of college, you can apply for internship in the area of your study and get paid as much as $25/hr. Email me if you want to learn more about benefits of having
GC and studying.

My conclusion: Education may help one to be more knowledgable in life, but it's not necessary. By knowledge, I mean self realization. A post man can be equally knowledgeable in that aspect. And the labor workers are so important, who's going to build my house if there was no constructors, who's going to fix my bathroom?

what to do ImI, I can't help it....:D

Althought I didn't win DV, I know that you can get lots of benefits by filling out FAFSA. the_illusionist seems to have experience with it.

But ultimately, it's your choice :)

A labourers has so much more respect in US. The american government is wise enough to know their importance. That's why they are paid enough.

ImI didn't you know that one can be a rational pessimist? ;)

so that proves that you're a pessimist....if you were ONLY trying to prove your point then that means that you can just say WHATEVER you want..just to prove your point.
here whatever = without thinking if it has negative vive or positive....and without thinking... that's dangerous my dear...that's bad...

so you'll be safer you accpet that you're a pessimist. :)

This is just dicussion and matter of fact you do not diagree on what i am saying but you just feel to come back at me for whatever reasons.hahahaha..i like it:)

IMI,
Sorry for the confusion, however, it seems that the wage gap among the most educated people is increasing tremendously compared to less educated. However, the gap between high school graduates and college graduates is very high. If you are intelligent enough to understand research papers, do go over this paper.
Here is a quote:
"Like Mincer (1998) and Deschênes (2002), I
find that the return to post-secondary education increased sharply while returns to lower
levels of education remained relatively unchanged. Using quantile regressions, I show
that the return to post-secondary education has increased even more in upper quantiles
(like the 90th quantile). The return to post-secondary education has also increased in
lower quantiles (like the 10th), but by a smaller amount than higher up in the distribution.
But other than for this increase in the return to post-secondary education at various
quantiles, the rest of the wage structure has remained remarkably stable over the last
three decades. For instance, the experience-earnings profile, both at the mean and at
various quantiles, has remained essentially unchanged since the early 1970s."

Couple of things first:
I never said don't go to school!!
I never said there is no difference between income of graduate and high school graduate!!

All I am saying in this thread "money matter" is, if u r not lazy ass, you are smart enough, you are hardworking... America gives you money other ways...you just don’t have to tie your bachelors degree around your neck.
Since this thread is money matters. Is BS B.S degree only money factor!!!No, no need to go to school .In that case. But why do people emphasize in going to school?
Reason: Going to school, in USA, gives you’re a broader knowledge and understanding. Even an engineering student can talk about philosophy and history. The American education system might be the best in the world with its flexibility.Yet, In America. There might be highest college drop out rates(I think so) cause people know they can survive without it.Now think about the difference between income in third world .

I do not want to fight over this issue anymore..do whatever you like ..go to college if you want to don’t go to college if you don’t want to.

Off the topic to sajahfuser:

can you really say about one's personality by what he/she writes in this Sajah???
You are just 15 year old kid....
You don't know anything.why people write what they write. You are just a rookie. You haven't been here while and observing things..
So describe my personality .I will honestly answer you whether you are write or wrong..If u are wrong admit it that you are 15 year old...who is trying to just act smart and argue with older people in age and smarter people in intelligence...
First observation of yours ...I am pessimist..sometimes i write pessimistic view sometimes i write optimistic view so ?????what does that mean??that means i am normal.
So keep your smart ass comments to yourself .okiee hahahahaha:)
