Some of you might have already read the news but I felt sad that mob rule is growing in Nepal. Reportedly some locals beat up Bharat Keshar Singh, a close aide to King Gyanendra over the issue of an accident. Here is what I feel about it...

Democracy seems to have taken its ground but with it has come the anarchy in the country. Rule of law has not been respected in the country and most issues are being settled through violence in Nepal. The beating of Bharat Keshar Singh is just another example. According to Kantipur Online, hundreds of people flocked around Lainchaur and beat Bharat Keshar and torched his vehicle on fire reportedly for his mishandling of a motorcycle owner.

Kantipur online(www.kantipuronline.com, June 21) writes:

Locals at Lainchaur on Tuesday evening beat up president of World Hindu Federation Bharat Keshar Singh and his two sons-Ajaya Keshar and Ananta Keshar. The enraged locals also torched their Toyota Corolla car, registration number Ba 1 Cha 6689.

It says that the scuffle began when Bharat Keshar's car hit a motorcycle parked in front of the Malla Hotel in Lainchaur. Though the media has potrayed it in a one-sided way, I guess both the parties must have had some part to play in the accident. Reportedly Keshar started to scold the motorcycle owner on the issue of the accident. Yet, only the two parties involved know the truth.

The attack on Keshar was a sign of growing mob rule prevailing in Nepal. It is reported that the students of ASCOL were involved in the attack against Bharat Keshar. They even torched his vehicle on fire.

I do not approve of violent means of getting to the justice. We have to rely ourselves on the rule of law if we are to live in a civilized world. Otherwise, we will be no different to Iraq where one might kill others at any time. The government has a daunting task of not going against the people and yet trying to run the country based on the rule of law. Will it be successful?

There have been doubts cast over the success of the government in maintaining law and order in the country specially in the new scenario where people have been encouraged by the success of their(relatively) violent protests in bringing down the King. This is a time when people feel that they can do anything and everything. We need to restrain ourselves from going against the law.

If Keshar Singh did wrong, we should bring him to justice through the courts. Why are the courts created anyway? I have this growing fear that we might end up inviting anarchy in the country.

There should not be violent means against those who do not subscribe to what we believe. In democracy, everyone gets the opportunity to hear and to get heard. And, basically that is the true democracy we want. We want to co-exist together with all the fellow Nepalese. Guilty should be punished but through the law.
What do you people think?

As per reliable sources: The entire episode was a fabrication by SPAM to bring down Bharat Keshar jiu. The fault was of motorcyclist. The mob (of 3,000) was already waiting for things to unfold!

Some people really hold the Maoists mentality. Maoists also emerged in the same way. They think they will punish the gulties and started killing innocent people. If law is taken by ordinary people then things will start to be like this.

THIS IS THE CASE OF ROYALS BEHAVING BADLY.

Traffic accidents and subsequent beatings used to be the trademark of PARAS "UDAY HUSSEIN" SHAH but looks like other royalists have imitated that tradition.

The arguments from the MANDALE bros on this thread [don't want to name them 'cause they are so obvious] is that we should sympathize with "poor" Bharat Keshar and his gunda sons because they were "lynched" by a mob. Mandale bros are wrong again because they only see themselves as victims and forget that they are the victimizers.

(1) The incident would not have happened if those guys had just ignored the little accident and proceeded to their cocktail party at the British Embassy. Instead they ended up beating a poor Sherpa. These guys still think they can break laws - like a feudal lord in the Middle Ages - and get away.

(2) Second, even if it was Sherpa's fault [nobody knows unless you were at the scene] he does not deserve a beating, especially from someone driving a fancy car [or was it a SUV?]. IF OUR MANDALE FRIENDS WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE RULE OF LAW, THAT'S THE FIRST VIOLATION THERE. In which country does one gets beaten up for traffic accidents, except in Nepal involving royals and/or their chamchas?

(3) The mob didn't lynch those gundas [lynching is beating and then hanging the body on a tree] but just participated in the brawl STARTED BY THE GUNDAS. Remember, first it was 3 people beating the Sherpa. When couple of hundreds arrived to support the Sherpa, the 3 people got beaten badly and deservedly so because they started the fight. WHY DON'T THE MANDALE TALK ABOUT 3 PEOPLE BEATING THE SHERPA AT THE FIRST INSTANCE? DO THEY THINK THAT'S OK?

(4) What happened afterwards? The police inspector gets disciplined because he didn't arrive at the scene to protect the gundas from being beaten by the locals. Nobody talks about the police NOT arriving on time to protect the Sherpa from 3 gundas.

hear hear gaule hero. You are 100% right.

Though I try to be objective and non-judgemental, the barkings of "mandaleys" in the threads of Sajha are beginning to irritate me as well. But then, in this virtual democracy, they have the right to be who they are and bark as they like, we just have to ignore these leftover "basi rotis."

Here we go again - royalists behaving, NOTt badly or offensively BUT dangerously.

The Ger-shaib living in a fancy house, driving a fancy car going to a fancy reception/party to honor a foreign diplomat feels offended when a Sherpa from Harisebagachol – 9, Khotang district requests him to drive carefully because he was hit by his car. And they end up beating the poor guy instead of saying "Sorry". Even a royal bi*ch was involved.

So to MANDALE friends i.e bibas100, ImI, karmarana, what do you think of the new death threats against Mr Sherpa?

The royalists and their chamchas still think that they live in the Middle Ages i.e. the voice-opinion of one person, the Raja is the law and they can do whatever they want - and Nepal was like that under Gyane's rule and during Panchayat era. IT IS HIGH TIME TO TEACH THEM A LESSSON AND GET RID OF THEM AFTER CA ELECTION - NO NEED TO FEEL SORRY FOR THESE SUPER-PRIVILEDGED GUYS.

========================================

Bharat Keshar episode: Angadawa receives death threat
By Jitendra Sah

KATHMANDU, June 23 - The main victim of the brawl between King Gyanendra's honorary ADC Bharat Keshar Singh and his sons, and local people at Lainchaur last Tuesday, Angdawa Sherpa has said that he has received death threats from Singh's men.
"If he opens his mouth, we will finish him off," Sherpa quoted the unidentified men who relayed the threats through his close friends, "We are looking for him."

"I have remained in my place at Jorpati for the fear of the threats," said 32-yr-old Sherpa, a climbing guide and trainer with the Himalayan Adventura, Durbar Marg. He is originally from Harisebagachol – 9, Khotang district.

He also said that he has taken the situation seriously and would write an application to the Chief District Officer requesting security for his life and property.

Meanwhile, Valley Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Deepak Thangden, has said that the Sherpa family was in regular contact with the police and that necessary security would be arranged.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, irate locals of Lainchaur had beaten up Singh and his two sons in the scuffle that erupted after Singh's car hit Sherpa's motorcycle in front of Hotel Malla. The irate mass had also torched Singh's car.

On Thursday, Sherpa, who claimed he was injured by the beatings of Singh, his sons and daughter-in-law, filed a complaint against the Singh family at the Sorhakhutte Ward Police Office. Saying that he was feeling dizzy, feverish and had throat problems after the incident, he also sought compensation and a public apology from the Singh family over the incident.

According to Sherpa, Singh’s car, which was behind his bike stepped on his leg on Tuesday evening. "I was beaten up by the Singh family when I requested them to drive carefully," he said.

Police Headquarters on Thursday formed a three-member committee headed by DIG Ravi Shrestha to investigate the incident.

SSP Krishna Bahadur Rana of the Crime Investigation Department and SP Keshav Adhikari of the Valley Crime Branch are the members of the committee.

The committee has been ordered to submit its report "at the earliest."

IMI i have been reading all your posts in most of the threads and you always claim you don't talk judjemental and think rationally...well what to say.its ..every body thinks that way..

and about this bharat keshri thing..you seems to be defending bharat keshri from your writing..you are blaming hooligans...from the eyewitness its bharat keshri family to start hitting that sherpa....yeahh hooligans are also lawless..but if that bharat keshri family is so much in law why can't they call police instead of hitting that sherpa..bullsht...they are the one to start.....first bharat kehshri is to blame for starting fight by taking law in their hand..

The culture of intimidations & voilence has escalated in recent times in Nepal.Even a minor road would turned into a mob fury. Why the vehicles being torched almost everyday even with a very small incident ? Why are people encouraged to destroy their nation's property??

The country is lawless.Moaist, Police and Army(all) are free to kill whoever they like. They don't have to give any explanation.No-one got punished for these atrocities. Nepalese people should be concerned with these acts and voiced against taking law into ones' hand rather than being involved into it.

So called Anti-Mandales are arguing that People should take the law into their hand and hang these culprits(Royalist).

These students have been driven by SPA-M, they can't decide what is good and what is bad for our country. If they can't control intimidation and voilence, atlest they should not encourage people to act insanely.

SS47k,
My friend .thanks for reading my threads and post.I am not defending Bharta kesar .i am against holigan attitude of his sons as well as 3000 holligans. We need to have good culture. The mistakes could have been any one or the person in the situation could be anyone .If you know what i am saying.Just look at the incidents of the two hospitals couple of weeks ago.Doctors were beaten .how can we control mob mentality?
We need to make democracy more transparent so people in power cannot abuse it.It is not good idea to support or incourage this kind of ridiculous behaviour of anyone!
