As Kids and young adults and even now-a-days we use words like,

Bidhyanasta yaar....maile gareko hoina..

Amma kaasam malai thaha chhaina......

Amma ragat mero cycle hoina yaar......

Thinking about how we used to word these phrases...LOL and habits like touching your head and chest again and again while crosing a river in the school bus. If anyone touched your neck you had to blow(phoooo) the hand....lol the myth of a golgaad.... if you stomp anyones leg you had to Dhog that person...while passing a small round the corner temple......we had to ring the bell put tika n circle the temple once.  every time the evening light was turned on .......we kinda touch our head and then chest like to worship. and many more things we all do as a comon Nepali habit...Its not taught........but we all did it...our pyaro Nepali ways.

I remember my social studies teacher making kids ( boys and girls ) stand naked in front of class for failing to memorize spellings of words.

Funny enough one of the girls who was stripped down, later became a good friend of mine. Everytime I see her, I remember her body standing naked in front of the class.

Believe me, I was the worst math student in my class. I was always got punished not doing my homework. My school had a rule which says I can jump to another class even if i failed one subject. Thats why I got upto here. Electronics Engineer. Upto 8 class, Kaile 'Khukura.' kaile ' bench mathi ubhaune' kaile 'mech' banne..

That stupid math teacher couldn't teach me why 8x8=64. At that time, I couldn't figureout  why 8x8=64. I thought it was a kind of rule. Later I knew, it was actually nothing but adding 8, 8 times. At that time, the only thing i knew is addition. I didn't know why we have to do division. I was so good in other subjects but i was totally dump in math. My teachers was so amazed by looking at me. I hardly got 10/100 in math. Now, I have completed Masters in Electronics Engineering where there is Math in everysteps. So amazing naa....someday I will post my 7th grade result.

This is hilarious. I had a group of 6 and we all were funny as hell. But the funniest and sometimes the strongest link that bonded the rest of us was Niraj.

He was perhaps the most loved in our group. He was very intelligent and an amazing friend.

He could not see donkeys. We all rode bicycles. Everytime he would spot a donkey, he would chase it using a stick making those funny hurr kind of noise for long..all over the streets of my hometown. There was nothing more hilarious than riding our bicycles with him and chasing that animal. God knows how he could spot a donkey from nowhere.

He passed away in january 2001, a day before my birthday. But he lives in my memories, and in the memories of the rest of my childhood friends.

He was the funniest person I have ever met in my life.

I used to kill sparrows and pigeons with guleli, pluck their feathers and head, throw away the intestines and roast it on open flame made by burning twigs and eat it. Any of you guys did that? It was the most delicious meat I ever ate and it was so much fun. Just thought I'd share those cherished memories with you.

Some of the traditional ways of getting punished....
1. kanchat ko rau
2. Stick on back and palm
3.  kukhura and murga
4. Slap on the face
5. Standing
6. Pinching

Some Darjeelingaly way of punishment....
1. Making naked
2. Wrestling lock
3. Laxman rekha (making a cricle on ground and hitting randomly and if the student comes out of laxman rekha than he/she would be in lot of trouble)
4. Polio ko thopa (dropping chold water from the bak of ur neck in winter)

The worst ever punishment
Getting a slap from another classmate as they reply the answer corretly which we replied incorrectly
Damn hate that... EGO PROBLEM

I used to love reading comics.

Amar Chitra Katha... mostly religious... Das Avatar was my favorite.  I went looking for Amar Chitra Katha few years back.  Sadly the quality has gone down tremendously and those too are not available as abundantly as before.

Other comics I used to devour:

Phantom, Ram Rahim (Indian Hardy Boys), Chacha Chaudhari (mildly funny), Bahadur (dhaaya dhaaya... I did not read this one much because the language was hindi), Mandrake, Tarzan, Korak, etc.

I also used to read a lot of black and white World War II comics.

DC and Marvel comics of Western Superheros pani padhinthyo, tara not as often because of their relative high price.

Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty, Reggie, Moose, etc..... our friends at Riverdale.  Perhaps my first motivation to come to America.

Of course, Asterix and Tintin were the most prized (and expensive) comics.  I had quite a few of them, but my friends borrowed 'em and never returned... "puch" bho re.... goru-haru....  Now that I have the means (relatively speaking), I want to buy the complete sets of both... if I can find 'em.

LOL all the punishments in Nepali schools are so similar and everyone has experienced it or seen them being done to others in Class..............Virosno1 ...LOL bro you and i are so alike .....I exceled in all the subjects...In fact was one of the top students in other subjects BUT when it came to maths AND Nepali.......My brains just Blacked out.............I even passed my SLC by copying my friends work I got 65 LOL.....and In Nepali I just got 40 LOL but in english I got 95 and above 70 in other subjects.

Hatyara bro......I used go hunting with my friends with guleli and yes .....we did roast our kills( there was a taboo not to eat the head of a sparrow though)

I studied In Dipendra Police school and beating was intense when one got it by the police Gurus....There even was a Prison for out of controll students. And if caught doing something wrong on top of Bhata( bamboo stick on your but t ) we had to endure tons of exercise like running for ever, crawling on rough sandy floor, frog jumping up and down the steps of the school, pushups and pull ups and every time you stopped .......WHACK came the BHAT on yout But t     and hours of standing in attention with no food or break..in the sun, rain, or cold. .......and if the whole dorm got punished.......LOL.....every thing above but in a group of 60 guys from the same room.

AnonymousGuy  thanks for sharing you feelings.....almost all of us went through those times of childhood and teen life  in Nepal. It makes us so Nepali and unites us all as how close our experiences are and how indifferent we are.

Any remember the first ever crush with the member of the opposite sex.....well for me while in school..in very small grade I am not sure was it 1stnd or 2nd grade.....I may be confused what to feel  so im not sure, but I had a crush on a lady teacher who thought I was the cutest kid in school so she used to always hug me, pinch my cheeks and buy me stuff, give me extra special treatment in class , Man she was beautiful..that I still remember her smile......... As I grew older I had numorous crushes on Girls and lady teachers too but didnt do anything....Just too shy and more intrested in playing with friends than Girls. howevr I had crushes on every pretty girl face in school, movies, posters, etc  but I didnt have a relationship with a REAL GIRLFRIEND ...untill MID of 10 grade my First ever GF...she proposed first LOL and I said OK..well so much for that......it didnt last long.....and four more GFs after that which were all sour relations.......they are all my X girlfriends..........actually it should be Y girlfriends.....WHY???? WHY?? LOL......I had given hope untill I met my WIFE......life changed and now we have been together for 9 yrs and still feels like it was just yesterday we met.
