It is interesting to see how every culture that ever encountered Buddhism has tried to make the Buddha their own.
Greek settlers about 2000 years ago in north-west region of the Indian sub-continent depicted their Buddhas and Bodhisattvas sporting wavy Roman/Greek hairstyle with Roman/Greek toga (clothing) on, which is still the norm to this day.
The only thing they missed was depict him wearing Roman sandals.
