It's hard for me to sympathize with people who drive drunk, hearing the stories about innocent drivers killed by drunk drivers.

However, without getting much fact, it's hard to side ways here. Was he completely wasted? What was the BAC level? Was it just a glass (or two) of whisky that really didn't impair his driving? If yes, then deporting him is a little severe punishment. I doubt he was evading the cops, he just didn't see them as he claims. But if he was indeed impaired and wasted, with high BAC level then hard to sympathize with him. Dude could've cost a life of an innocent there.
