You should go ahead and ask your company to initiate the process. It is a long journey. After the process is initiated, you would get about a year time to get married (since the prevailing wage determination and labor certification takes about a year). You should get married before you file for your adjustment of status (I485), so that it would be easier for you as compared to filing I485 later....
