Washington DC, April 26th 2016: Gorkhaly Foundation together with Mr. Bir Bahadhur Ghale – Ashoka Fellow and Energy Practitioner, have been able to successfully rehabilitate the Micro Hydro in Barpak, Gorkha. We are very proud to announce that Barpak will now have 24 hours electricity. The project was funded by National Geographic Great Energy Challenge – Gorkhaly Foundation is the proud winner of the Great Energy Challenge Grant of USD 70,000 to rehabilitate the Micro Hydro in Barpak. This is a milestone accomplishment for Gorkhaly Foundation and the people of Barpak, the epicenter of Nepal’s Earthquake on April 25th 2015.

Gorkhaly Foundation would like to thank all our donors, volunteers and media for their constant support. We hope that you continue to support our projects as there is still a lot of work to be done in Nepal. But at this moment, let us remember the ones we lost and thank the ones who supported us in our darkest hours. Gorkhaly Foundation’s upcoming projects can be seen below –

Ambulance – We are in process of acquiring an Ambulance for Barpak. Most emergency cases have to be airlifted to hospital which only few with such resources can afford. Most have to walk/be carried for many hours before a health post can be reached. The ambulance will cut this to hours.

Build a School - We are looking for partners in order to construct a secondary school in Barpak. As the school was destroyed by the earthquake, classes are currently being run under a tent. We hope to build an 8 classroom earthquake resilient school.

Business Plan Study - For everything we donate and build we are creating a business model with the collaboration of King’s College to create a business plan as a blue print of how it will operate, be governed and financed for sustainability.

Community Committee Study– Projects are more successful and sustainable, if it’s participatory and community-led. We endeavor to look at the various approaches available and institute the best-possible-model appropriate for Barpak for the long run.

Entrepreneurship – We hope to provide assistance to existing and new businesses that service the community.
