The new federal map of Nepal is good but not perfect. We didn't have to mix tharus (state 5) beyond the mahabharat range. But the fact that 5 different states have access to southern border seems thoughful.

I personally would have liked the country to have been divided in states from North to South. Map out states vertically so that southern and northern borders are accessible to each and every state. This makes sense to a country like Nepal whose shape is linear with not a very large width. This would have also mixed nepalese from different ethnicities in each state. What could have been better than this to unite everyone and spread communial harmony?

But the politicans decided to divide the country along ethnic lines. God knows why.
