Open Road -------------- I. Your eyes are restless too. Road trips? Destination unknown? I took one last month. As I drove through the dark night I could not see beyond my headlights. But the earth opened up for me. I could have gone on till I met the sea And further. But I stopped in Denver. That was the plan. II. The road snaked away from under me Under the pine tree canopy. As my friends slept I saw the last curve Of the sun dying on the valley. There are nets holding rocks on those mountains. Rocky Mountains are, in fact, quite rocky. Our hearts are restless rocks too Held back by the mundane conformity nets. But next time I will once again stretch it to the seams. And go farther West. Maybe to Boise, Idaho. Or Santa Fe!
