Is India ready to become permanent member of security council? India is lobbying for reform in UN security council. While doing so India wants UN to increase number of permanent member from 5 to 10. another 5 contender for permanent membership are
India Japan Brazil Germany South Africa India being closets neighbor we have to be careful when it becomes permanent member with veto Power. In order to bear such responsibility a country need to show mature behavior at least to wards its neighbor Now let us analyse India's relationship with its neighbor
1.Relationship with Bhutan India is not letting Bhutan to become independent. It is even controlling its external affairs, security and economy. Does Bhutan wants to remain like this ? we don't know. It is up to Bhutanese to decide. In my opinion Bhutan should call for a referendum asking its people whether they want status qua or want to be independent. If Bhutanese wants status qua, we should have no problem, but if They want independent India must agree to crap all those treaty by which it is controlling Bhutan 2.Relationship with Bangladesh It took India to 50 years to ratify the border normalization treaty with Bangladesh. Although Bangladesh ratifies the treaty long ago India ratified last yr or so. They still have problem related with water distribution.
3.Relationship with China: We all know this, China will never let India become permanent member of UN security council unless border problem is solved
4.Relationship with Pakistan: We all know Pakistan will go against India if there is voting. Relationship with Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka might remain neutral or because of India's support to Tamil separatist Sri Lanka too oppose India becoming permanent member of UN security council.

5. Relationship with Nepal. Nepal is the closest friend India has in south Asia. Will Nepal support India's claim as a permanent member of UN with Veto power ? should we support India ?

I don't think so. India's behavior towards Nepal is/was never clean it always acts like a big brother. India does not know how to behave normally towards Nepal. Instead of supporting democratically elected establishment it supported small fractions.
Unless India asserts Nepal practically that it will not go against democratically elected establishment we should never support India's bid for permanent UN membership. Unless India commit itself towards rights of landlocked Nepal we should never support its bid for permanent membership in UN security council.

last 50 yrs India's behavior is unpredictable ( positive side). India's behavior towards Nepal is always predictable negative wise.
so we should never support India for its UN security council permanent membership bid

Why India is behaving like this

1. Since independence India is behaving odd. During the cold war it failed to align itself with US, Instead it aligned itself with a autocratic Russia.

2. Instead of asking Bhutanese ppl whether they want status qua or independent it always aligned with Bhutanese King and increase its grip towards small country like Bhutan ( undemocratic behavior).

3. It let Bhutan expel 20% of its population as refugee and forced them to move towards Nepal.

4.it annexed independent Kashmir, Just Because its Prime minister was born there. It should have helped Kashmir remain independent.

5. Sri Lanka was one of the most developed country in south Asia ( it still is) but India supported Tamil separatist. The war lasted 20 yrs, Finally India support killed lots of Tamil and Sihalis.

6. In Nepal also it always wants to hold one card, so that it can play it against establishment. Now a days the card is small Madhesi fraction which lost election.

In conclusion
India behaves destructive way towards it neighbor. Its constructive behavior is yet to be seen. Till then India has not become mature enough to hold Veto power in Unites nations security council. So Nepal should not support India's bid for permanent membership in UN security council.

Bye Bye India, this is what happens when some country behave penny wise pound foolish way
