Sep 22, 2015- CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said he did not believe that India would halt the supply of goods to Nepal.
Responding to queries from journalists at a tea reception held at the Dasrath Stadium to welcome the new constitution, leader Oli said there is no truth in remarks that India did not allow the supply of petro products and the entry of vehicles to Nepal via Nepal-India border.
The newly promulgated Constitution of Nepal does not have any adverse impact on the affairs of neighbours, he said, adding that there was no security threat to Nepal and harbourig doubt on this would make no sense.
He said he believed that India, the close neighbour of Nepal, would treat it as usual. He pledged to opt for having government and political level talks if any misunderstanding is emerged regarding the security on border areas.
He went on to say that dissenting voices regarding the new constitution can be addressed through amendments to the constitution and there was no need to resort to violent activities to demonstrate protests against the constitution.
The country has been successful in drafting the federal democratic republic constitution by the people's representatives and it is complete and is no less important than democratic constitution of other countries.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra has said the rumour that India halted the supply of goods to Nepal was just a hoax. "Bilateral talks will be held if any unusual situation is surfaced," he said.
Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha said it is beyond imagination that India would not allow supply of goods to Nepal as a gesture of its objection to the promulgation of the new constitution in Nepal. Talks with the agitating groups are underway, he said, underlining the need of moving ahead through unity and cooperation.
