I am more inclined toward Z3 compact than Z1 given that it is the newer version. Z5 version has not even hit the US market yet. But when it does arrive it is likely to be more than $800 plus tax. Tech spec-wise, Xperia is pretty formidable compared to Iphone or Samsung Galaxy. The reviews on the Sony camera is pretty good in some places.
I absolutely loved the looks and size of the iPhone 5s but it is getting older by the day and the newer releases are getting too large . Mr. Cook is screwing up a lot of things since he came to the helm.

. I swear my phone is getting old and it has been having reception issues on some important calls a few days ago. Plus a phone with a modestly good camera becomes indispensable when you want to capture precious moments with far-off friends or relatives at social gatherings. My current phone is not up-to par in that dept. i don't know why I have to convince you so much even though the Nepal government is not covering my phone purchase.

iPhone 6s is going to be $ 849 plus tax and I am not even going to be utilizing all the bells and whistles in that hot release. With Z3 compact, I can lay my hands on it for less than 450 bucks.
