Rajan101,
I am on the same boat as you are. It does not matter either you are in IT or other, upon expiring your EAD, you have to either leave country or do other things to keep your status ( assuming that you are in F1.)
This year also there are plenty of H1B petitions filed and it all depends on luck to get picked on lottery unless your petition is filed for US - Masters CAP ( which they say has more probability of getting picked but not guaranteed though ).
So far for green card what my lawyer told is that it takes 12 months to 18 months or could be longer if they audit the petition. She also told me that there is always a risk from OPT to Green card. So she said she will not file my GC until I have my H1B. She rather suggested me to go back to school.
Everything I mentioned above is not a legal advice but hope it helps. I would suggest you to cross your finger and wish you good luck .

I am kind of nervous too but there is nothing we can do except wait and see.
Reg,
