The book wasn't banned in India. Dina Nath Batra of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, filed a court case against Penguin, publishers of the book and challenged the veracity of its content. Penguin chose to pulp the book & recall distributed ones. Fact is Penguin couldn't stand scrunity on the charges put against it in the court and cut its losses. The book wasn't, by any means, banned!!
