Have you ever asked yourself that why are you doing the things you are doing? After all the work, you come home, tired, and you go to bed and sleep. After you wake up in the morning, you feel fresh and you again go to your usual activities. Why are you engaged in activities at all? Why is it necessary to do this and that? Our mind is always seeking something in the external world. Our mind always moves outside to seek something material in the external world. Mind is seeking something always. What is it that mind is seeking in the external world? Is it possible that mind will get it through outward projection in the world?

Mind is seeking only one thing no matter what you do. It is satisfaction. It is seeking not just momentary satisfaction but permanent satisfaction. This is why mind is engaged in so many activities all the time. It just wants to experience this greater and greater joy in the world outside. Through the contacts with objects outside mind experiences a condition within itself that gives a sense of joy. Mind seeks these condition of happiness through various contacts. Happiness doesn't lie in the material objects outside but mind assumes a sense of joy with material objects outside and thinks that the objects are responsible for his/her happiness. So, ordinary people in the world are chasing material objects all the time like a mad person. Through these contacts with objects outside, they are seeking greater delight in life.

Can mind get permanent satisfaction from the material objects outside? Is this possible at all? Permanent satisfaction means something that has to be of infinite capacity, otherwise mind would not be happy. But the material objects itself are finite. How can finite objects bring infinite happiness within? So, chasing material objects for the sake of permanent satisfaction is a futile act. At any given moment of time, you experience your own mind. Through the various senses called eyes, ears, tongue, skin, and smell, raw data from the external world are entering your mind. These data are raw meaning they are merely information presented to the mind. It is the mind that interprets these data and starts liking and disliking things for the sake of delight. Mind absolutely don't care about objects outside! It cares only the consequences that follow these object of senses. The same person can become your friend and enemy. It all depends on the consequence that come only after the contact with that person. The person itself is a person but the moment that person brings some consequences in your life, you start either liking or disliking that person depending on joy consequences or pain consequences. Our mind is not just a monkey mind, but it is worst than that. It is so reactive. It reacts immediately! How can a reactive mind experience permanent joy? It's impossible. So, if you are seeking permanent satisfaction in your life, try understanding our own mind because our world outside is nothing but the mind. To experience permanent satisfaction, mind must experience something infinite, otherwise the chasing of mind towards material objects in this world won't stop and a time will come in your life where your sense organs will stop functioning and your mind will be left alone wondering what have I done all these years!
