Thought this might interest some of you living around DC area, who've read and admire Dr. Azar Nafisi's work (of 'Reading Lolita in Tehran' fame). Meet the Author - Orhan Pamuk Wednesday, October 6, 2004, 7 pm, Meyer Auditorium Orhan Pamuk, critically acclaimed author of My Name is Red, reads from his most recently translated novel, Snow. It is the story of Ka, a poet who returns to Turkey from political exile and travels to a remote, snowbound provincial town where he finds his childhood love and a disturbing rash of suicides by religious young women. With a complex, thrilling plot full of vivid characters, Pamuk engages the reader in a collision between Muslim traditions and secular, Westernized values. Following his reading, Pamuk will discuss his work with Dr. Azar Nafisi, author of the international bestseller "Reading Lolita in Tehran," which gives a rare, inside glimpse of women's lives in revolutionary Iran. A book signing will follow.
