KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Neelam KC Khadka on Wednesday held a meeting with Hollywood actress Freida Pinto in London of the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the Girl Summit 2014.

Actress Pinto met Khadka to discuss how the issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment could be tackled together, according to a statement issued by the British Embassy in Kathmandu.

The Minister talked about Nepal Government's commitment to end child marriage while providing equal opportunities to girls through multi-sector engagement and inter-ministerial partnership.

The actress is supporting the Girl Summit 2014 organised by the UK Government and its aim of galvanising efforts to end child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in a generation.

She had addressed the summit's closing session, urging the commitments made on the day to be translated into action.

Pinto had meetings with some of the youth activists attending the summit.
