To all the Dallaal of Kathmandu

It's all about demand and supply. Almost everyone in villages (from pahads all the way to terais) who cannot go to gulf-countries want to move to Kathmandu. Even the ones who manages to save some money working in a foreign land wants to live in kathmandu. Now don't ask me why. I don't have many good reasons. So unless you can drive the demand by forcing supply of opportunities in other parts of the country, you will not see migration from kathmandu.

If you guys are shocked by house prices in kathmandu, consider automobile prices. I know a guy who used to drive a toyata land-cruiser that he paid 95 lakhs. After driving it around for 2 years, he sold it for 1 corore12 lakh to someone else. During my last visit to kathmandu, a guy was showing me some pictures of a black ducati belonging to his friend who paid 24 lakhs for it. He rides it at 30 km/hr in the valley :) And this dude was 28 years old.

Each time I visit Nepal (which I do once or twice a year), I am amazed to see the amount of money nepalese these days have. I don't know where the money comes from. Whatever is left as industry is also dying off. So what kind of industry does Nepal have, seriously? Are these mainly money from remittance? Have you noticed the number of new restaurants that open up every month in kathmandu? Nepalese have money and are willing to put money, but they are not getting things worth their money. If you want a good pair of jeans in kathmandu, you will end up going to one of the stores in Durbar Marg and pay Rs5000 ($50) and then get a fake pepe, lee, levis jeans made in Thailand that will tear up after 3 washes. You want to eat a good french meal, you go to Babar Mahal, pay Rs 3000 ($30) and end up getting a sh*** food which was probably worth Rs1000 at the most.

So yes people, nepalese have money to spend. I don't have the kind of money my friends back home have. And I am not sure what kind of business they do. Do their money grow on trees, I am not sure? All they do is talk about money.

And if you ever think about starting up a small scale industry in Nepal or invest in a new company, you are not aware of nepalese work culture. Nepalese workers are not used to working in a system. They are not disciplined. Your workers will ruin you and your mental health.
The farms are barren in villages with noone interested in farming any more. They want to drive taxis in the capital. They all want to go to Gulf countries and make Rs 30,000/month but are not willing to take a job in Nepal at Rs 20,000/month and work seriously.
