From my experience, you have to be on diet for weight shedding. I was almost consistently on 1200-1300 calories for the last 4 months (except on some weekends). But what Nas says seems to be extremely difficult ,atleast for me. I read somewhere where Navy or some group of people lose liek 4-7 pounds in a week with cleansing. But they limit to water-only-diet for a day.

And @Karnali Blues, I think it's about consistency and maintaining good posture first. If you can do correctly with 15 lbs first, go for it. Even I started with 12-15 lbs (I had never ever done any gym/exercise before) and slowly increased my weight keeping the same reps.
