Khairey, I can understand your perception. However,

Do you know how much efforts are needed to grow the trees?
Are all trees the same? Same species?
How old were these trees?
These trees were very resilient species surviving with all these pollutants.
Why does other cities relocate the trees when they have to remove such historical trees (may be 10-100 years old trees? I think they relocated the trees for such works in Gujarat.
In Nepal and other countries, they do environmental impact assessment for the development projects including the road construction works. I am not sure if they are taking this as an exception for such assessment.
I have seen other downtown cities in a developed country, where the roads are still narrow. I think road-expansion is a short-term solution.
