@ gallery : I am not a lawyer to provide you right advice. However, as far as my understanding from different forums, I assume you are eligible to work with EAD. That means you don't have to maintain F1 status. Your status should be I-485 pending.
But I would still suggest you to maintain F1 status, just to be safe in case something goes wrong with approval of I-485.
If you use EAD/AP then your status should change from F1 to I-485 pending. No more F1.
